    29 June 2015

    PenCottCamo-homepage

Designed and built in-house, PenCottCamo.com is the new central, brand-hub for the PenCott® family of camouflage patterns from Hyde Definition Ltd.

This is the first time that the PenCott® pattern family has had its own dedicated website, and greatly expands and improves upon the PenCott® pattern content that has been previously held on the HydeDefinition.com website.  Among other enhancements, the new site features an in-depth look at the development of the patterns, what makes them so effective and where the name ‘PenCott’ comes from.

    PenCottCamo-gallery

Another key highlight of the new site is the wide-ranging and ever growing gallery of submitted photographs showing the performance of the patterns in-the-field around the world.  There’s even an interactive map of the world that lets you select to see photos of the patterns in use by country (and by state in the US).

A useful section of the site for Makers is the page covering the range of different PenCott® pattern fabrics and materials that are now available – as well as links to sources where they can be bought.

    PenCottCamo-fabrics

Consumers will find the full, up-to-date listing of PenCott® garment and gear producers – with links off to their websites – an invaluable resource for getting kitted up in PenCott®.

Finally, the Blog section of the site will present all of the latest news related to the PenCott® patterns, as well as additional original content relating to the field of camouflage history, design and technologies.

PenCott Camouflage Shows Up On ‘House Of Cards’

    Friday, March 20th, 2015

Hyde Definition’s PenCott BadLands and GreenZone camouflage patterns are featured in the latest season of ‘House of Cards’. The full release can be read below, and beware, there are some spoilers:

    1

Hyde Definition’s cutting-edge PenCott-BadLands™ and PenCott-GreenZone™ camouflage patterns continue to show up in interesting places – this time they are featured in Season 3 of the award-winning Netflix drama “House of Cards”.

Caution, this announcement carries a SPOILER ALERT…

Seen in a crucial and dramatic segment of Season 3; PenCott™ camouflage patterns are seen in use by ‘Russian’ soldiers taking part in a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East. The Russian soldiers are seen wearing BadLands™ uniforms, whereas GreenZone™ uniforms are worn by the Russian officers and by Russian President Petrov. All of the PenCott camouflage uniforms used are the CPU (Combat Patrol Uniform) model made by Polish company Helikon-Tex.

    2

In the latter part of Chapter 36, US President Underwood and Russian President Petrov hold a secret meeting in the Jordan Valley to try and resolve a crisis concerning the peacekeeping mission there. In the segment President Underwood (played by Emmy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey) wears an OCP/MultiCam ACU, and President Petrov (played by Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen – renowned for his roles in ‘The Killing’ and ‘Sherlock’) wears a GreenZone™ CPU.

As real Russian Army ‘Digital-Flora’ uniforms are hard to come by, the ‘House of Cards’ costume department selected GreenZone™ and BadLands™ pattern uniforms as stand-ins. Together with help from their retail partners, and with MMI Textiles also helping to supply some spare fabric, Hyde Definition and Helikon-Tex were able to rapidly assemble the sizes and quantities of uniforms and caps that were needed and deliver them in time to meet a tight filming schedule.

    Good Guys in Greenzone

    Friday, February 20th, 2015

Yesterday’s online and paper editions of the Austrian newspaper ‘Heute’ (Today) featured an article and photo gallery of the Austrian Interior Ministry’s anti-terrorist / special operations unit ‘Einsatzkommando COBRA’.

The photo spread included this shot of a two-man sniper team in their standard-issue GreenZone camouflage smocks and trousers from SABRE in Germany. COBRA has been using a range of GreenZone camouflage clothing and equipment made by SABRE since 2012. Einsatzkommando Cobra isn’t GI Joe’s arch-nemesis but rather an Austrian Counter Terrorism team with a very good reputation. Organized under the Ministry of the Interior, Cobra was founded in 1978 and is made up of about 450 personnel.

    They even use GLOCKs.

Caveat Emptor – Seconds/Counterfeit PenCott Fabric

    Monday, February 9th, 2015

    Bottom Line Up Front
The only truly authentic, genuine, first-quality PenCott fabrics are the ones that that have been or are being sold by Hyde Definition, MMI Textiles or Tacticaltrim.

Hyde Definition recently issued an alert regarding both the sale of seconds quality as well as counterfeit fabrics.

    (null)

For example, this garment sewn in a Crye Precision combat uniform style is made from seconds quality GreenZone fabric. These are ejected off-color and other types of ‘second-quality’ PenCott camouflage fabric which have turned up on eBay and other online wholesale outlets being sold as good quality material. Some customers have already been duped by the low prices on the per-yard fabric and/or by low shipping rates.

If its not genuine first-quality fabric, there could be one or more problems with it – such as; the colors being off, the colors will fade quickly, the fabric will shrink too much when its washed, etc.

Counterfeits on the other hand are originating in China, Indonesia and Ukraine. These are unauthorized reproductions of genuine fabrics. Aside from being thievery, these fabrics suffer from indistinct prints, incorrect colors, and low quality substrate fabrics. Once again, buy fabric from legitimate sources to ensure quality.

Hyde Definition is pursuing legal action against the counterfeiters, and has pledged to take action against any retailer who offers finished goods made from these counterfeit fabrics.
