SOTECH Debuts New Law Enforcement Line at NTOA Conference

Sunday, September 9th, 2012

Looking at all of the gear from patrol bags to plate carriers, SOTECH has innovated a new line of law enforcement nylon products. We are not calling it tactical or SWAT because the system incorporates elements that can be used by patrol officers to active shooter responders to MACTAC to SWAT. SOTECH designers took the position that law enforcement ideas were taken into military designs during the GWOT, and now those ideas have been refined in the military and SOTECH is applying them back into law enforcement in this line. First SOTECH developed a series of tactical products for elite units in LAPD and LASD. Then they combined them into a modular system mounted in a large backpack/trunk bag and removable as military style go bags. This is a major departure from duffel bags that officers lug out from the locker room to their squad cars. The back pack is also sized to strap to a wheel cart. Once in the trunk, modules such as the Mission Go Bag can be dropped on the passenger seat. Customers can purchase a couple applicable pieces for their mission, or they can purchase then entire set. The main pack is designed to carry standard gear like jackets and gas masks plus the packs pictured. The kit is modeled from SOTECH’s mission pack system which is the basis of the Special Forces Medic’s SOF MES set. Check it out at NTOA on Sunday and Monday in Seattle. Items will be released at www.SOTECHTactical.com over the next month.

SOTech Introduces a Custom Scabbard for Snipers – The Fat Magnum

Friday, August 31st, 2012

The new SOTech Sniper Scabbard (AKA the Fat Magnum) was designed as a modular weapon carry system which can be built up or down depending on mission requirements and the needs of the Sniper. SOTech first introduced Sniper systems in 2002 with Las Vegas metro PD SWAT and this is the latest evolution of the rifle scabbard design. They invested three years of development to get it into its current configuration and is currently undergoing evaluation in the hands of both Allied and US Snipers.

The first challenge was to work out the physics associated with stabilizing a top heavy load, in a fluid environment. For example, horizontal, vertical, and rotational torque all needed to be neutralized. Not only did SOTech succeed in doing this, they found a way for the Sniper to have the option of running his weapon barrel up, down, or in a folded configuration. They, they found a way to carry the load along with a very large pack, or to run with the system with only the scabbard and rifle making it the first totally modular system on the market.

Specifically, the Sniper Scabbard was developed in improve upon existing carry solutions that have these consistent issues.

1- Lack of stability when moving
2- All or nothing design which does not allow end user configuration
3- You can only carry your rifle barrel down

SOTech knew they could address these issues in an innovative and unique manner, and deliver a product which a Sniper wants in combat.

With SOTech’s system you are able to build it up or down depending on your mission, weight requirements, and time on target. It was designed by a Sniper, with input from former and current operators, who understand what you need and what it takes to complete the mission. SOTech started this project with durability and dependability being the primary factors, then focused on redundancy and making sure this was the best product they could develop. All components are American Made, Berry Compliant, and were all assembled and configure in Carson, California, just south of Los Angeles.

This is a proprietary design protected by patent, and we can not show the interior key design elements as they are restricted to actual customers only, not the general public.

Finally, it’s important to note, a portion of each scabbard sale will go to both AmericanSnipers.org and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

SOTech Shines Light on Benefits of Employing Veterans

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Green Vets LA / VIPER Program makes the front page of the Los Angeles Times as the vote goes to Sacramento. The Green Vets LA Element of VIPER (Veterans Industry Program for Employment Reintegration) has found itself bridging the right and the left wings of California politics. Jim Cragg and SOTech staff members supporting GVLA have made the rounds of California Senate and Assembly offices to illuminate the veterans issues, job creation, and economic impact of the proposed single use plastic bag ban in California. Previously the ban was seen only as an environmental issue until Cragg raised the banner of jobs for vets.

Having experienced firsthand the protection of American sewing jobs under the Berry Act in Defense Contracting, Cragg brought to light the benefits of legislation that protects and encourages American design and manufacturing. Not only do veterans of the GVLA program benefit from sewing and assembly jobs created here, but the American sewing industry as a whole will see gains, and this comes at an important time as Defense sewing projects begin to dwindle with an end to American troop deployments on the horizon. Beyond the political and industrial implications of the issue, the LA Times article captured the human side of the issue with some gut-wrenching interviews of formerly homeless Veterans in the VIPER program.

SOTech Exhibiting at Military Health Systems Research Symposium

Monday, August 13th, 2012

SOTech will be at Military Health Systems Research Symposium (MHSRS) this week displaying new innovations to their medical panels and packs making the pouches interchangeable and quick disconnect for grab-and-go medicine. SOTech’s Rapid Access Modular Medical Panel (RAMMP) and Sliver Panel (ISMB) are standard issue and found on the walls of hospitals and medical vehicles throughout the DOD. Following the SOTech Mission Pack modularity concept, SOTech presented the SOTech Medical System Total Battle Space Solution where packs and panels from the medic to the ground vehicle to the water craft to the aircraft and into the hospital have interchangeable modular medical pouches using interchangeable high visibility labels. This promotes continuity of care, identification, and supply. The quick disconnect features follow SOTech’s go bag concept promoting leaving bulky items on the vehicles and sending runners back to grab and go specialty and resupply items from organizer panels and drop them into go bags for return into the fight. These panels interact with the other SOTech medical packs, IFAKs, and kits that are issue items of the Special Operations Forces Medical Equipment Sets (SOF-MES) which are standard issue to deploying 18 Deltas, and other SOF medical operators and now are seen issued through DLA to medical units throughout the military.

SOLAR modules, cable release pouches, tools organizers, pill dispensers, small organizer pouches and vinyl windowed pouches are also being added to SOTech’s offerings. Ironically, SOTech’s original RAMMP panels integrated vinyl windows, but the Army nixed the idea for fear of drying and cracking. But now because of demand from other branches of service, SOTech is reintroducing the windows as an option.

Also in production are series of MOLLE/PALS panels custom cut to fit the special vehicle walls. You can see SOTech tags on these panels mounted in some MRAP vehicles, Navy SBT water craft, Coast Guard helicopters, and other platforms. These pouches disconnect adapters and label systems interconnect and promote continuity across all of these platforms.

Check out SOTech in booth #84 at Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) this week in Fort Lauderdale. For information on designing panels to mount to your vehicles systems, contact clark@specopstech.com.

SOTech Releases Gen 2 of Quick Eject Tourniquet Pouch

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

SOTech has responded to requests from the field and upgraded the BLOCS Quick Eject Tourniquet Carrier with the addition of a rubber band and retention tab. The tab and rubber band give the user the option to have the tourniquet hang from the tab in the center of the panel after the shroud is burst open. Most customers were happy with the tourniquet popping out into their hand upon releasing the snap and bursting the shroud open. However, some were concerned about applying a tourniquet while on the move, so they added the rubber band retention for that. A light weight rubber band is supplied so the wounded and bleeding casualty can easily snap the band while pulling the tourniquet away from the shroud. Additionally, a stitch was added to the shroud fastening it to the harness at a second point in order to form a slight cup to add light retention while bursting the shroud. Note that the tourniquet carrier can be used with or without the rubber band.

SOTech also want to call attention to the pairing of the Flat IFAK with the BLOCS Quick Eject Tourniquet Carrier. While the IFAK has room for the tourniquet to be carried internally, it was intended to be purchased with the separate tourniquet carrier so the tourniquet could be mounted on the front of the vest while the rest of the IFAK elements could be comfortably and compactly stowed in the lower back region using SOTech’s Flat IFAK. Both products are in wide use throughout law enforcement and the military.

SOTech Takes It To Sacramento

Friday, July 27th, 2012

SOTech CEO and Veterans Industry Program for Employment Reintegration (VIPER) director Jim Cragg recently spoke to the California State Legislature in support of Veterans jobs creation and the environmental ban on single use plastic bags. He delineated the number of jobs that would be potentially created by a statewide ban based off the number of jobs created for the veterans sewing program from previous municipal bans. Mr. Cragg founded VIPER and Project Green Vets LA to provide vocational training, therapy, and job opportunities to Veterans from the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. Many veterans post-service experience abandonment issues and Cragg set up the program to give these heroes work projects that make them feel that they are part of a community effort again. Veterans in the program assemble medical kits for troops going down range as well as environmentally sustainable shopping bags for local municipalities. SOTech sponsors the VIPER charity both financially and through manning. Veterans are paid wages for their work with the intent of enabling them to move off VA property and rejoin society. Mr. Cragg said, “it’s awesome helping the environment, but there’s no feeling as great as seeing the pride in the eyes of a veteran who was homeless a year ago, and today shaking the hands of a politician and receiving his thanks.”
