PV – What Is It?

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Tyr Tactical has integrated a new fabric technology into their line of nylon gear. It’s called PV, which stands for the Latin words Pluma Vires meaning Feather Strength. It is a patent-pending, hybrid material that combines lightweight Cordura (330D or 500D) with an aramid fabric to increase the strength and abrasion resistance. Rather than making the entire pouch from PV, Tyr uses the material wear it is needed to reduce wear. Tyr Tactical feels that this material is a game changer for the entire industry and is developing a distribution agreement with a third party.

Here is a video of Tyr Tactical founder, Jason Beck describing the material in greater detail.

MICO Machine Gunner’s Assault Pack Now for Sale

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

TYR Tactical (pronounced tear) released the MICO ‘Quiver of Death’ Machine Gunner Assault Pack. When we initially wrote about it, we told you it was a very specialized piece of kit. Now that it is actually available the price tag reflects that. Don’t get me wrong, it is very well built and uses the best components.

This isn’t something that you are going to see out on the MilSim skirmish field, but rather it is designed for a narrow task set. That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be surprised to see knockoffs of the MICO before Christmas. However, if you are in the business of using an M240 or M249 in the Direct Action role, then you should take a look at the MICO.

And You Thought It Could Only Be Done in Hollywood

Monday, September 27th, 2010

At the recent Infantry Warfighting Conference at Fort Benning, Georgia we caught up with Tyr Tactical and one item at their booth had tongues wagging; the MICO Machine Gunner Assault Pack. Designed to carry 500 rounds of belted 7.62 ammo in the pack body with another 75 rounds in the feed chute, it looks like something straight out of Hollywood. But, unlike some movie creation, this is real and actually works. Thanks to Scottsdale Gun Club, Tyr was able to demonstrate the MICO in action. It is a very specialized piece of equipment and we don’t see guys wearing this one a multi-day patrol, but it does put a lot of rounds with the weapon. The photo above features an armor vest we didn’t see at IWC and isn’t on their website. Could it be their SPD 8 entry?

According the Tyr’s Facebook page, a variant for 5.56 ammo is in the works. The 7.62 MICO Pack is available in MultiCam, Coyote, and Ranger Green.

Vehicle Upright Storage Bag

Friday, September 17th, 2010

No, you can’t store a vehicle in it, but it looks like you can keep your ammo from rolling around in your trunk. Simple and functional. Since it’s called a Medium storage bag on the web site we expect to see more of these in other sizes. Berry compliant and available in Coyote and MultiCam.

Tyr Tactical

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Awhile back one of our readers sent us a cryptic message telling us to keep an eye on a website. They had put up a simple splash page but there were no details. Last weekend, we were told the page had changed.

We emailed the reader who had given us the heads up and asked him what the deal was. He said he didn’t know so we razzed him for sending us a snipe hunt. Then, this morning we refreshed our browser and lo and behold, something very new appeared.

According to the website, the man at helm of Tyr Tactical is Jason Beck who previously ran Diamondback Tactical. We can’t wait to find out more about this. For example, what is this PV material?
