ACH SLAAP from Velocity Systems

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

We’ve shown you the Super Light Armor Applique Plate developed by Velocity Systems for the Ops-Core Ballistic FAST Helmet. However, there are far more Advanced Combat Helmets fielded. In fact, there’s an entire Army and Air Force worth out there. Early on in the development of the SLAAP, Velocity Systems produced a variant for the ACH’s geometry.

They produce blanks that are water jet cut to finish and using this process they can accommodate different NVG mounts/shrouds as well as rail systems. The model you see above is cut for a rail and NVG mount that takes up more vertical space than most others. Additionally, a Large/XLarge SLAAP weighs just a pound. Considering it will stop an AK round, that’s impressive.

SLAAP is THE answer to the rifle caliber threat.

SLAAP is economical. You purchase as much protection as you need. There’s no need to buy an entire new fleet of helmets that only stop an arbitrary threat. Both front and rear plates have been developed, and since they are easily attached to and detached from the helmet, SLAAP is scalable. You adapt to the threat and only use the amount of protection you need. SLAAP is effective. It defeats the threat you will see on the street; 7.62 x 39mm FMJ with mild steel core penetrator. Additionally, the technology is adaptable. Because it is a helmet accessory, new versions of SLAAP can be developed as new threats emerge.

Military or Law Enforcement, I encourage you to look at SLAAP if you are facing rifle caliber threats. Chances are very good that Velocity Systems has already built a model to fit your issue helmet. It is a major game changer for the ACH.

Operator’s Utility Belt from Velocity Systems

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

After extensive testing and field trials Velocity Systems is releasing their new Operator’s Utility Belt. Designed to be worn with a first line or rigger’s type belt, this padded belt sleeve is constructed with a “less is more” approach.

For starters, it’s narrower than other belts allowing for greater comfort and mobility while maintaining ample real estate to mount additional pouches and equipment. The key to this feature is its skeletonized insert which allows sweat to escape and air to circulate. It also makes the belt at least 25% lighter than other comparable models. Not only does it feature an ergonomic cut to properly contour the waist but it also accommodates a wide variety of riggers belts as well as the new Velocity Systems “Tac Belt”. The segmented designs allows you to customize the load by exposing the inner belt to attach holsters and other gear directly to it. Other pouches can be attached directly to the OUB. One user also mentioned to us, “There was still enough room to route a couple of flex cuffs through the belt channel also but not excessive space where the belt might shift around too much in the pad.”

I think a comment from “Dale” a sworn officer who wore the OUB during the recent Connecticut SWAT Challenge sums it up best, “The new Velocity Systems OUB is another great design by a cutting edge company, they are the new norm in functional and professional load bearing belt systems.”

The OUB is offered in Black, Coyote Brown, Desert Digital, and MultiCam. To choose the proper size measure your waist over your existing belt when worn.

Small (33” – 38”)
Medium (37” – 42”)
Large (41” – 46”)
X-Large (45” – 50”)

I just met with Velocity Systems in here Virginia Beach at 1st Annual Beach Blast and they showed me an example of their licensed Helium Whisper pouches. Here can see a traditional MOLLE construction utility pouch compared to a Velocity Systems design incorporating Helium Whisper backer construction along with their design philosophy and material selection.

The traditional construction pouch weighs .43 lbs.

Blue Force Gear Licenses Helium Whisper Technology to Velocity Systems

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Remember we recently told you that something exciting was coming from Blue Force Gear and Velocity Systems? Well, here it is. This is a major announcement with VS being the first company to license Helium Whisper. It was just a year ago that we broke the story on this new lightweight load carrying technology.

Blue Force Gear announced today that they will provide their weight-slashing Helium Whisper technology to Velocity Systems. Velocity is the first company to license Blue Force Gear’s patent pending Helium Whisper and this technology will enhance the products they currently provide to elite users.

“Helium Whisper ushers in a new category of MOLLE by eliminating the weight penalty of modular military load carriage,” said Ashley Burnsed, Blue Force Gear’s CEO. “It creates the kind of weight savings our troops need to improve their performance and survivability. Velocity Systems shares our passion for delivering revolutionary products to the finest customers on the planet and their experience and integrity made them the perfect first choice for licensing our lifesaving technology.”

“We are excited about this teaming,” said David Strum, President of Velocity Systems, “Helium Whisper is an incredible advancement in design and material use and we are ecstatic to be a part of it. This technology will provide tangible benefits to our customers and keep our pouches on the cutting edge of performance. It is always great to work with like-minded people who care about what they do and who they are doing it for and Ashley Burnsed and his team at BFG are “top shelf” people making this teaming an absolute must.”

Helium Whisper allows modular pouch backs to be constructed from a single piece of high-performance laminate versus the multiple straps and snaps of outdated designs. This amazing breakthrough increases strength and durability of pouches while eliminating failure points and reducing weight by up to 60 percent. Helium Whisper licensing allows OEM customers to reduce sewing costs, minimize alignment errors, maintain or increase durability, and stay relevant to today’s weight-conscious military customers.

Rumor Has It – BFG and VelSyst Team Up

Monday, June 18th, 2012

We have it from a pretty good source that a really cool announcement is coming soon from Blue Force Gear and Velocity Systems regarding their technologies.

Look for more details here soon.

SLAAP Plate

Monday, June 4th, 2012

We took these photos during SOFIC in a behind-closed-door unveiling of several new Ops-Core technologies. Despite rumors to the contrary, Ops-Core is thriving and has developed several new products that will be rolling out soon. These photos in particular, showcase the new Super Light Armor Applique Plate developed for the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet by Velocity Systems.

One of those new technologies we mentioned is this skeleton VAS shroud just peeking out from under the SLAAP. You can also discern the design of the SLAAP. You may notics that the plate is slightly raised around the VAS.

Below, you can see the SLAAP dismounted from the helmet and the Velcro strips used to hold it fast.

Remember, the Super Light Armor Applique Plate works in conjunction with the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet to defeat the 7.62 x 39mm FMJ with mild steel core penetrator threat.

Super Light Armor Applique Plate – Rifle Protection for Your Helmet

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

For those of you that took a look at Ops-Core’s new 2012 catalog yesterday, you may have noticed an item called the SLAAP Plate. It is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing things I have seen in quite some time. Developed by Velocity Systems for use in conjunction with the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet, the Super Light Armor Applique Plate defeats 7.62 x 39mm FMJ with mild steel core penetrator. There’s no ether here about it stopping an unspecified .30 threat like some helmet programs out there. This piece of kit stops the most common threat you are going to face on the current battlefield. And, it is used in conjunction with a helmet that is seeing more and more widespread use; the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet.

Mounting is a snap as it is as easy as adjusting the position and slapping into place via Velcro. The SLAAP Plate is also NVG compatible and includes a cutout and edge recess to accommodate the VAS shroud.

SLAAP Plates come in two sizes: Large (1.0 lbs) and Small (.85 lbs). Look for SLAAP Plates for additional helmet geometries soon. Available sized and in Tan, Green, Black, MultiCam and Desert MARPAT, the SLAAP Plate can be ordered from both Ops-Core and Velocity Systems.
