THE MOST ANTICIPATED TACTICAL FOOTWEAR OF 2017

OTB Maritime Assault Boot, Winner of NAUMD’s Best Footwear Innovation Award

Morristown, TN – May 5, 2017 Since its first public appearance at SHOT Show this past January, the Altama OTB Maritime Assault boot has been widely discussed at tactical gear shows worldwide. The OTB Maritime Assault Boot was designed specifically to replace the old school canvas style shoes commonly used by Navy SEALs during OTB operations. At first glance, the OTB Maritime Assault Boot looks like a typical sneaker, however closer review will show what makes the shoe worthy of elite operators.

Strategically placed drainage ports at the forefoot flex points of the boot helps water drain immediately after exiting the body of water. The water friendly materials feature low absorption and faster dry times. The SEAL rubber sticky outsoles allow for extra grip on slick surfaces and full length one piece ABS shank provides stability and support – making it easier to climb caving ladders. The slim design is specifically for the boots to fit into dive fins used by militaries worldwide. Inevitably, the OTB Maritime Assault has already adopted the nickname “Combat Chucks.”

“We are honored that our boot won the Best Footwear Innovation Award at NAUMD. We want the OTB Maritime Assault Boot to be known as the most badass sneaker in the world,” said Kevin Cole, CEO of the The Original Footwear Co. The OTB Maritime Assault will be released in low cut and mid height versions. The boots will initially be available in Black, Coyote and Original Multicam®. Cole said, “We’ll be releasing more colors at a later date.”

Customers can expect to the OTB Maritime Assault boots on shelves and online beginning in August, 2017.

ORWM – Altama

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

I was surprised to find Altama in the Mystery Ranch booth and even more surprised to get a sneak Peek of some new shoes being officially released at next week’s SHOT Show.

This is the Aboottabad (in honor of the location of UBL’s demise) series. It consists of a Trail Run Low and Trail Run Mid and a Mid to Heavy Weight Hiker.

All of the outsoles in this line get their DNA from the old Panama tread of the USGI Jungle Boot.

Here’s an OTB Maritime Assault Shoe in Low Viz colors.

Sneak Peek – Altama’s OTB Maritime Assault Boot

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

Look for the new OTB Maritime Assault Boot by Altama in both low and mid heights, with limited showings at OR for key SOF groups and a full launch at SHOT.

The Maritime Assault Boot is intended for all tactical water operations with a fin friendly fit, it will accept the toe box of just about all dive fins used by Militaries worldwide. High abrasion quick drying 1000D Cordura quarter panels are offered in both solid colors and Multicam. This is combined with air mesh linings which help wick away sweat and other moisture quickly from your foot. To further mitigate the effects of water, there is an Ultron anti-microbial PU contoured footbed which will not absorb water and the front non-metallic drain ports allow for water to drain easily when flexing the boot.

Low-profile laces will not cause pain from fin wear on long swims and the non-shine rust-proof lace hardware will not break on the go. Additionally, Altama integrates a full-length, one-piece polypropylene shank to procide stability and support when climbing a caving ladder.

Finally, Altama’s OTB Maritime Assault Boot incorporates SEAL Rubber sticky outsoles. The rubber compound was originally developed for rock climbing shoes and modified for wet tactical operations. SEAL Rubber is one of the stickiest, high traction rubbers on the market today.

Look for these and other new styles at SHOT Show.

Altama Introduces Jungle II Boot at SHOT Show

Friday, January 15th, 2016

Altama listened to wearers of the classic US military jungle boot. As they worked to improve the boot, they concentrated in materials and kept the classic design. The resulting Jungle II boot improves areas of water absorption, puncture resistance, and comfort. They worked with US leather tanneries to significantly reduce the amount of water that is absorbed through the leather and replaced the steel plate with PunctureX material so now it covers the whole foot without any gaps. They also created a cushion-like midsole through a unique Dual Density Rubber (DDR) lasting. This process allows them to keep the rigid outsole but add comfort to the foot.

This video shows how it’s done.

So far I’ve seen Black and OD. Hoping for a Coyote model.

Original Footwear Purchases Wellco and Altama

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

This letter went out last night from Kevin Cole President of Original Footwear (aka Original SWAT) regarding their purchase of Wellco and Altama brands out of Ch 11 Bankruptcy. This is great news as they salvage these brands and institute US production for Original SWAT.

Dear valued customers,

We are pleased to announce that our company, Original Footwear, has purchased the majority of the assets of Tactical Holdings and Operations Inc. as of August 15th, 2014. Most notably we welcome the Wellco and Altama companies—brands with a wealth of history, research, and footwear technology.

These premier footwear brands have served military personnel for generations and will live on next to our already successful and rapidly growing Original S.W.A.T. brand of performance tactical boots. With our fifteen-year record of constantly improving footwear manufacturing techniques and quality assurance, this acquisition is a perfect fit for all involved.

There are many important steps to take, and our journey has just begun. We will face all obstacles head on. As a first priority, we are consolidating manufacturing at our state-of-the-art facility in Morristown, Tennessee, and ramping up USA production.

Our unwavering mission is to create the most reliable military and law enforcement boots on the market, and ensure our availability standards are met. Combining Original S.W.A.T’s consistent quality and value with Wellco and Altama’s unique understanding of military needs, we are confident that the end results will far exceed our customers’ expectations.

Thank you for your time and understanding. Please make note of our new Customer Service information below and feel free to contact us at any time.

Best regards,

Kevin Cole

Details On The Tactical Holdings Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Filing

Thursday, July 17th, 2014

Last week, Tactical Holdings filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in Federal Court in Wilmington, DE. The brands under Tactical Holdings include well known FR clothing manufacturer Massif as well as footwear makers Wellco and Altama as well as other companies Tactical Intermediate Holdings Inc, Tactical Holdings Operations Inc, Ro-Search Inc, Mo-Ka Shoe Corp, and Massif Holdings LLC. As you may recall, Ro-Search developed the Panama sole used in the old jungle boot.

Fortunately, they were given permission to use up to $3.5 Million in loans from Wells Fargo to pay vendors in order to keep things going through the process.

At face value this looks pretty scary for these brands but Massif may well come out of this situation stronger than before. While all brands were given until the end of July to find buyers, Massif has already been courted by Sun Capital Partners, who owns Point Blank Solutions, Protective Products Enterprises, Paraclete, Kelty, Sierra Designs, Slumberjack, Ultimate Direction and Royal Robbins. These guys know how to do it. Dow Jones reports that Sun Capital Partners has a $13 Million offer for Massif. As I understand it, Massif will go to auction soon with Sun Capital Partners as keen bidders who wish to nurture the business alongside its other holdings.

In a telephone interview with Noelle Christensen of Massif, she related, “As you know, we’re part of a larger corporate group, including footwear brands Wellco and Altama. The corporation, along with all entities, filed Chapter 11 last week. This court process will divest Massif from Tactical Holdings and Massif will be proceeding with an auction soon, to determine if Sun, or another investor, will be taking ownership.

Massif is a strong company and we’ll remain strong after this process is complete. As mentioned in the court filings, Massif received approval to pay vendors deemed critical during this process, so we can continue to deliver high-performance protective clothing to the warfighter.”

Unfortunately, the outlook isn’t as good for the footwear brands. Declining contracts and an investigation last year into sourcing of footwear has led to layoffs at Wellco. If they can’t find a buyer, DoD contracts will be moved elsewhere.

I would say that assuredly, Tactical Holdings as we know it, will cease to be. Things look promising for Massif who may find a new home alongside other PPE manufacturers. However, considering the crowded tactical footwear market, we are unsure who might go after not one, but two boot makers.
