The Last Day

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Don’t go through life wondering, moping, muttering to yourself, “I could have been a contender.” If you are going to enter the kit design contest, you will have to do it before 1159 GMT on 10 Jan 2011. After that, there are only regrets.

PenCott-Snowdrift Camouflage

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

While the US Army might not be interested in introducing a new camouflage pattern for snow, Hyde Definition has introduced their new PenCott-Snowdriftâ„¢ pattern.

Hyde Definition’s strategy is to introduce disruptive elements to the plain white background normally found in traditional snow camo uniforms. As you can see, they are mimicking the shadows and debris usually found in these environments.

Golden Gun Replica Up For Auction

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Do you remember seeing ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ and thinking how sweet that iconic weapon was? Well, it’s not entirely impossible to have one of your own, figuring you have around $2000 to spare. Later this month, a replica of the Golden Gun made by SD Studios will be auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers where it’s expected to fetch somewhere between £1,000 and £1,500. The piece is made of a cufflink, fountain pen, cigarette lighter and a case, and includes a bullet with ‘007’ etched onto it. Total James Bond fanboy item if I ever saw one.

Check Out Under Armour’s New Boots at SHOT Show

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Right about the time you will be at SHOT Show, UA (Booth #6104) will be releasing the first of several models of new tactical footwear. They’ve actually been showing them at various trade shows since early Fall but most of these have been rather specialized shows with restricted entry. The Valsetz Trail boots are extremely lightweight and feature a 6″ upper but I am told that 8″ boots that are AR 670-1 compliant are in the works. Additionally, waterproof breathable models are also on the way. Currently, the Valsetz will be offered in Black and Tan. This photo we received gives you a good idea of what they look like.

UA has been refining their footwear technology for several years now and these boots are no exception. When the weather was warmer I was wearing a pair of their Tactical Mirage boots which are actually low top trainers, to the gym. The upper is made from a mesh so they are definitely not an inclement weather shoe but they are great for the hot, muggy mornings we get here in the Tidewater. However, while the uppers breather very well, a quick jaunt in light rain won’t leave your feet soaked. Why all of this is important is that the Tactical Mirage are very comfortable and the same technologies used to create them have been integrated into the entire line.

Arc’teryx LEAF Releases TALOS Uniform

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

We broke the story on Arc’teryx LEAF’s new TALOS combat uniform last July and now it is available for order. TALOS is part of the Armor Compatible Layering System and consists of a combat shirt and trousers. Both are made of lightweight ripstop NYCO fabric and the torso section of the shirt is of a lightweight jersey knit. Both top and bottom are available in MultiCam; 100% MultiCam. One of the things that sets this clothing apart from others on the market is that the shirt’s torso is printed rather than a solid color.

Additionally, Arc’teryx has released suspenders for use with the Talos, Sphinx, and Gryphon trousers. Production suspenders will be in Crocodile.

Check Out Rocky’s New Kicks

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Rocky is releasing several new Hunting and Duty boot designs this year at SHOT Show. We like the look of the S2V Hiker based on the popular current S2V. As for the C4 Trainer it seems as if we have seen the sole design before.

We’ve been badgering them all year asking if they are going to ever release the Broadhead (does the sole look familiar?) we saw last year on the hunting side but it just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards. Who knows, maybe they’ll surprise us.

Rocky Broadhead

At any rate, check out Rocky at booth # 11034 for Hunting and #11170 for Duty.
