Wild Things Tactical Andinista Pack

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Originally envisioned for recreational mountaineering, military climbers immediately saw the Andinista’s applicability for their use. Designed for application where a user will need to be able to haul more volume than weight such as carrying sleep systems and bivy clothing, the Andinista is manufactured from a composite VX-21 fabric that is waterproof to 200 psi. Consequently, the pack uses a removable bivy pad to help with rigidity and padding. It also incorporates features you will normally find in mountaineering packs such as ice axe loop, haul loops, snow collar on main opening, haul loops, daisy chains, ski slots, etc. It can accommodate loads between 45l and 90l.

Having seen service an areas such as Nanga Parbat and Sangin Province, the Andinista is a PJ favorite and often used for resupply bundles. It’ll hold 8 rifles as well as a full combat load for each and is jumpable.

The Andinista is currently undergoing evaluation by Master Proven.

Canada is Seeking a New Sidearm

Monday, September 12th, 2011

The Canadian Forces have begun the process of looking for a new sidearm. At least, they’ve taken the first step. At this point they are looking at availability and price, sort of like a US pre-solicitation, but won’t issue the actual solicitation until 2015. But, at least they’ve started along the path. The US military has had two false starts since the war began. First with SOCOM and then with the USAF.

According to the online price & availability letter, this new General Service Pistol “will replace the 9mm Browning High Power (HP) and the 9mm Sig Sauer Model 225 pistol.”

The Browning Hi-Power as their current Service Pistol and the Sig P225 is in service with the Canadian Forces Military Police. Interestingly, no mention was given to the Sig P226 which is in service with Naval Boarding Parties. The P&A letter mentions the potential for 10,000 pistols. Furthermore, the eventual winner will be required to provide the Technical Data Package to the Crown who will, in turn, provide it to Colt Canada who will produce the weapons. And oh yeah, they are only interested in 9mm NATO.

Never Forget

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Here we are on the 10th anniversary of the worst attack on these United States. I hate to use the term anniversary as even it almost sounds celebratory. It’s a somber day for most of us, having sacrificed in so many ways.

To me, this is a day of remembrance. I spent the week thinking back on the last decade. I thought about that day, the ensuing weeks, and my service since then. I thought about my friends, the ones I had lost and the ones still out there. And then, I thought about my kids. Essentially, they’ve all grown up with war. For one, it’s all he’s ever known. Already, the older ones are becoming adults and joining the service themselves. I’m very proud. But, I leads me to my next point.

To my brothers and sisters in the fight, you have my utmost respect. So do your families. They die a little bit every time you go away. No man is an island. You are doing this for them, so make the most of what you have, when you can.

One percent of America knows it is at war. That part of America is sacrificing and doing the right thing. The rest, at least the ones who still care about this nation and our way of life need to get involved. Support our troops and their families.

Remember the Fallen, no matter how, no matter where. Bring those who would do us harm to justice, no matter how, no matter where.

Most of all…Never Forget

VIVOBAREFOOT is no newcomer to the barefoot running craze having started making shoes in 2004. What is new is Uber Group’s interest in the line. Immediately, they saw an application for this line in the tactical athlete community.

The Neo Trail is an trail runner weighing in at 8.7 oz. The off road grip features directional lugs to maximize surface contact For barefoot traction. The whole concept is to maximize proprioception or the ability to “feel” the ground balanced with protection. It also features a reinforced toe guard to keep your upper foot safe on the trail.
