Benchmade SOCP Knife

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

One of the most popular knives at the Benchmade table is the SOCP Knife (Special Operations Combative Program) built by Benchmade with input from Greg Thompson. Greg is the head SOCP instructor out at Ft Bragg. It’s designed to be both an offensive and defensive weapon so if you’re wrapped up or someone grabs your primary weapon you can draw the SOCP to engage at close quarters (like house or cave) and fight away so you can revert to primary or secondary. The blade and finger eye/loop at the top is configured so you can still maintain positive weapon control and good trigger manipulation while the SOCP Knife is in your hand.

There’s a red training version available too, so you don’t bleed on the mat.

Darley Defense Day opens at JBLM

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Darley Defense Day has kicked off at Joint Base Lewis McCord. SSD is on site and will be touring the vendor show with Duffy Cavanaugh, the local Darley representative and POC. There are 30+ manufacturers here now, including WT Tactical, Benchmade Knives, Leupold, Creative Tent International, etc.

Duffy describes the event as an …”An intimate show typically for a brigade to talk one on one with SMEs of the equipment in question and let them talk to the people behind the gear they use (or would potentially like to use). This show was hosted by 1SFG and we wound up inviting a number of SOF units and others. We’ve got 2/75, 19th and 20th group, STS from McCord…4/2 has some folks here, because of the venue any command group or logistics staff were invited. Thing that’s really good is we get to have vendors in a more personal setting…especially let’s folks here get a look at things before SPECOPS West…”

The show is over at the 1SFG Fitness Facility and is open to all military personnel. Come by if you have a minute. Questions, e-mail Duffy from Darley Defense at duffy(at)darleydefense.com.

The show runs until 1600 with a reception after.

Warrior Trail Consulting Training Armor

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

We’ve written about training plates in the past from a couple of manufacturers. They offer a great alternative to using real ballistic plates during training iterations that may result in damage to the plate. Now, Warrior Trail Consulting, LLC has introduced their version of training plates, training side plates and soft armor. That’s right, training ballistic insert panels which could come in VERY handy for MAROPS training or any other training that might result in damaged soft armor.

The soft armor inserts are IOTV shape and made from woven PVC fiber. They replicate the size and weight of armor panels. They are available in sizes X-small – X-large.

The plates are available in both E-SAPI in sizes Small – Large. The SAPI versions come in X-small and Medium and the ESBI side plates are one size.

These products are VERY cost effective when considering the cost of the loss of even one plate in training. But remember, these offer NO ballistic protection and are for training (non-ballistic event) only.

BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle Lawsuit

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

The BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle has made quite a splash in the Black Rifle community. Apparently, Mossberg has a similar product on its MMR which is their version of a Black Rifle. It’s so close that the patent holder of the BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle is suing Mossberg. Below are the two charging handles. First is the MMR charging handle and next is the BCM charging handle.

This is the suit by Eric Kincel of Abrams Airborne Manufacturing, owner of the patent and originator of the suit.
Abrams Airborne Manufacturing Inc vs of Mossberg and Sons Inc

This is the page from the Mossberg website detaining the features of the MMR. As you can see it includes, “Oversized charging handle for quick, ambidextrous engagement.”

Here is the patent for the BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle.
Charging handle (US patent 8104393)

Abrams is asking the court to “issue a final and permanent injunction enjoining Mossberg from infringing the ‘393 Patent” and “award Abrams an accounting to determine the full extent and amount of its damages which shall be computed to be no less than a reasonable royalty pursuant to 35 U.S.C. § 284” and also, “award Abrams treble the damages suffered as a result of Mossberg’s infringement of the ‘393 Patent.”

2 Vets Arms Company Introduces the 6.8 SPC II Rifle in A-TACS Camo

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Oklahoma based 2 Vets Arms Co, LLC has only been in business for a short time. It is a female service-connected disabled veteran owned business (SDVOB) operated by Army veteran husband and wife team of Dean and Amber Brandly. Dean is a combat Infantryman who served as a Sniper/Sniper Team Leader and Joint Fires Observer during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Amber also served as an Army Intelligence Analyst during Operation Iraqi Freedom. These are our kind of people.

Now, they are offering their weapons fully decked-out in A-TACS AU and A-TACS FG Camo courtesy of the guys at Southern Draw Hydroprinting.

The flagship weapons platform offered by 2 Vets Arms Co is a 6.8 SPC II rifle based on a custom design by Dean Brandly, and based upon his experience as a Ranger Qualified former Army Scout Sniper Team Leader.

The 6.8 SPC (6.8x43mm) was initially developed by the United States Army Marksmanship Unit’s MSG Steve Holland and Chris Murray who were tasked by JSOC and the 5th Special Forces Group in 2001 to make a caliber that offers superior downrange lethality over the 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington in an AR pattern service rifle with minimal loss of magazine capacity and a negligible increase in recoil.

In their match-grade, Spec II chambered 16″, 18″, 20″ barrels. The 6.8 SPC is capable of pushing a .277 caliber, 85gr bullet to over 2900 FPS. 110gr bullets easily achieve 2500 FPS with factory-loaded ammunition. Appropriate hand loading can achieve even higher velocities and enable the use of heavier projectiles up to 130 grains, which dramatically improves terminal ballistics over a 5.56 Nato/.223 Remington at long range.

2 Vets Arms Company is proudly working with Sports South LLC, a national firearms distributor with a retailer network of more than 5000 firearms retailers across the country. The custom designed 6.8 SPC II weapon system, as well as .300 Blackout and standard 5.56 models will reach dealer shelves throughout the country soon.

As a service-connected disable veteran owned business, Dean and Amber understand how important it is to support our honored military veterans. In order to do their part, 2 Vets Arms Company has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from every rifle sale to GallantFew.org – A Revolutionary Veteran Support Network, and American Women Veterans.
