Warrior West – Kopis Mobile

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

There are lots of metal detectors but none of them do TacEx does. In addition to a metal detector it also contains a magnetometer to help find emitters such as bugs. But the real exciting part is the data collection component which reports data to a small communications decide via Bluetooth. Kopis Mobile sees the TacEx really shining for site exploitation, village stability operations and entry control points. Naturally, the TacEx can also be used for route clearance.

It collects data via Android or iOS creating an event log which offers real time position location data, live streaming video and stills. It can also be used to probe bags and shipments. Additionally, the TacEx facilitates standoff sensing of individuals and items on interest. It’s also fully ambidextrous and runs for 4-6 hours on 6 x CR123A batteries.

Warrior West – Benchmade

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

The 9170 Auto Triage was developed at the request of US Navy Aviators who were looking for a knife with auto opening features for both the main blade as well as personal safety cutter.

20130425-100149.jpg

Here you can SE the evolution of the design. At the bottom is the 916 which was developed with Natick as well as Customs and Border Patrol who wanted a knife with an opposing bevel for increased blade strength. That blade style is also good for folks who need to use it while on a platform like an aircraft or ship as there’s no point to accidentally cut someone or something. The 916 Triage also incorporates a personal safety cutter as well as a carbide tip glass breaker. The middle knife is the 915 SBK-ORG with the sheeps foot blade and has more of a commercial appeal. Finally, the knife at the top is the 9170 SBK-ORG. It incorporates an auto opening modified drop point blade as well as an auto personal safety hook. Eventually, all of the models will be available in auto variants and the corrosive resistant N680 blades are available in satin or black cerakote finishes. Handles are G10.

Warrior West – Gerber

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

I’ve written about most of Gerber’s new products but as I per used their wares, something caught my eye. It was a lock blade knife with a drop point sheeps foot blade. It was kind of funny. At first they were like, “You’re interested in this old thing?” But then one of the the guys thought about it and related, “ya know, that knife has been around a long time and it’s got a great price. In fact, I’ve been carrying one since I was a kid.”
