CTC Defense Announces International Sale of 25k Shoulder Fired Lasers

Monday, August 5th, 2013

We mentioned the Shoulder Fired Laser series during Modern Day Marine a few years ago. Designed to attach to an M72 LAW this is a low cost add on Aiming Laser that increases hit probability.

CTC Defense™, a division of Oregon-based Crimson Trace Corporation, has announced that it has completed shipping of more than 25,000 SFL-100s (Shoulder Fired Lasers) systems in fulfillment of an international military contract. The SFL-100 is a low-light aiming laser that couples with a unique, quick-detach/secure platform system that works with the battlefield tested M72 LAW (Light Anti-Tank Weapon).

“CTC Defense realizes this large purchase of SFL-100 units is a vote of confidence in our products and the performance these products provide for soldiers on the battlefield,” said Dale Suzuki, CTC Defense Division Director. “The SFL unit dramatically improves rapid sight transition, especially in low light conditions, and the improved on-target accuracy equates to a much higher hit ratio. We look forward to working with other allies in fulfilling their laser system needs.”

There are several platform options for the SFLS, including: the CTC Defense RELMS (Rocket Expedient Laser Mounting System) with quick attach, or a factory-installed base plate. Application of the RELMS base plate and SFL-100 can quickly convert standard M72 LAW units already in inventory into upgraded laser equipped armament. The partnered SFL-100 laser can be effectively aimed at ranges from 50 to 200 meters and provides 25m increment adjustments. This helps soldiers in the battlefield gain a substantial advantage in eliminating opposing mechanized forces.

The easy-to-install laser aiming unit (slides into and precisely locks onto a base plate with no required tools or adjustments) also expands the use of the M72 LAW into an effective nighttime weapon. The current standard M72 LAW aiming system relies on daylight to complete the aiming process.

The SFL-100 produces a visible red 635nm laser and is powered by an AA battery. The laser run time is 14 hours (it moves into auto-off mode after 35 seconds of inactivity) and the unit is waterproof to 1 meter. The laser unit is housed in a sturdy advanced polymer shell and weighs less than 4 ounces. It is designed to work with all M72 LAW system variants.

Manage Your 550 Cord With The SpoolTool From Tricorne

Monday, August 5th, 2013

The SpoolTool is a pretty cool gadget designed to carry 100′ of 550 cord and incorporates not only a cutting blade but also these series of notches for burning the ends of the cord as well as a holder for a Bic lighter. Everything you need to organize and use 550. Sure, some of you guys will spend an exhaustive amount of energy complaining about this and how it’s not needed. But I don’t really give a shit about your petty complaints. Haters gonna Hate and I’m a fan of a better mouse trap meaning I am going to buy one. Aside from some solid innovation, one of the other things I like about this is that Tricorne LLC is a Veteran owned business.

The World’s Smallest Political Quiz

Monday, August 5th, 2013

While SSD is not a political blog, I thought that our readers might enjoy this simple tool to help examine their political beliefs. The Advocates For Self Government’s “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz” examines beliefs in personal liberty and economic issues to determine the participant’s political beliefs. With only 10 questions, it doesn’t look at every issue, and certainly not in any detail but it does give a general sense of where you fit in. Mine seemed to be in the right ball park. Enjoy!

Ok, so it’s another pair of Merino underwear, and granted, these are made from Australian Merino wool rather than the New Zealand variety, but that isn’t what’s really interesting about these. It’s the two pockets that make these stand out. The first, the quick access pocket, is large enough to store money, credit cards, and other small items you’d need quick access to. The larger pocket is made from 100% recyclable new age polyethylene and is certified waterproof up to 200ft deep by Scuba Schools International.

Outdoor Retailer – Sterling Rope

Monday, August 5th, 2013

There are two types of rope; Dynamic Kern Mantle that is used for climbing and stretches to absorb the energy of a fall and Static which is used for rescue work, rappelling and hauling because there is little to no stretch.

Search and Rescue teams constantly demand that industry push the envelope, balancing size and weight of ropes with performance. Sterling offers the TechStatic line to satisfy these requirements. It incorporates Technora offering increased abrasion, cut and heat resistance.

TechStatic offers three different diameters as standard ropes. From right to left, the largest is a 9.5mm called the Tactical Response which offers 27kn of strength. Basically, the same strength as a more traditional 11mm rope. Next is the 7.5mm. It’s a 25kn rope utilizing 100% Technora fibers and integrates perfectly with the F4 escape system. That’s a mini evacuation or access system. It’s often used by Snipers to get in and out of remote hides. Finally, the 6mm rope is used when space and weight are at a premium. Offering 15.5kn, you still get a 10-to-1 safety advantage.

All of the Sterling ropes are offered in various color schemes. Additionally, Sterling has a more extensive line of ropes for more specialized applications. All Strerling Rope Co ropes are Made in USA.
