Introducing the FLIR ONE

Saturday, January 11th, 2014

FLIRONE_ViewD

The FLIR ONE is a case for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S that offers FLIR’s thermal imaging technology in a smartphone-sized package. It has a scene range temperature of 32°F-212°F (O°C-100°C), an operating temperature of 32°F-113 °F (O°C-45°C), and is able to detect temperature differences as small as 0.18 °F (0.1°C). The FLIR ONE utilizes a dual camera set up to achieve thermal function. The core is a FLIR Lepton thermal camera. The visible camera is VGA. This allows for FLIR MSX blending via the app which generates and overlays outlines to help the user identify what they’re looking at.

FLIRONE_PersonalSafety

The FLIR ONE’s companion app – FLIR ONE MX – provides a simple and intuitive user interface that makes it easy to collect and share thermal images. It can load captured images directly to the camera roll and allows users to easily share on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, along with other features.

The FLIR ONE houses its own battery source, good for more than 2 hours of continuous use. It can also boost the battery life of the iPhone5 and 5S by up to 50 percent.

The FLIR ONE will be available starting Spring 2014. The FLIR ONE for select Android models will be available later in 2014. It will be available in three colors: Space Grey, White, and Gold.

One Of The Many Reasons You Should Support The Green Beret Foundation

Saturday, January 11th, 2014

This video is part of the Green Beret Foundation’s “Everyday Heroes in the Special Forces Community” video series about Green Berets and their family members. The videos share the story of these heroes’ military service and their work in their communities as they come home from war.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting SFC( Ret) Michael R Rodriguez who spent 21 years in the US Army, 15 of which were with Special Forces. He has had numerous combat deployments throughout his career, including Somalia, Afghanistan, and Haiti, as well as Central and South America. He served as an 18D, Special Forces Medic, as well as a Sniper Instructor at the Special Forces Sniper Course. Since retiring, Michael has focused his time on his three sons and his work as a blacksmith. Two of his knives have been auctioned off to raise money for the Green Beret Foundation, and he hopes to do more in the future to contribute to the foundation. Michael has also set a goal to climb the “Seven Summits” and has already climbed Mount Kilimanjaro where he conducted the first ever research on the effects of altitude and elevation on traumatic brain injury, and as a result was inducted into the famed Explorers Club as a Fellow.

I exchanged a few messages with Rodriguez prior to SHOT Show and he told me he will at the show representing the Green beret Foundation. He told me that they’ve done a lot for him and he wants to do everything to help give back.

Nike to Introduce SFB2

Saturday, January 11th, 2014

According to a photo posted by Airsoft Outlet Northwest, which is right down the road from the Nike campus, Nike will be introducing the SFB2 on 31 January.

I can see a few differences from the current SFB which has been around since 2008. For instance, the sole has been changed from the FREE-style sole. Additionally, the upper loses the classic Jungle Boot styling and forgoes the metal lace holes for fabric lace barrels on the top of the foot.

Participate in the American Silencer Association Silent Auction at SHOT Show

Friday, January 10th, 2014

The American Silencer Association is conducting a silent auction at SHOT Show to raise money for advocacy and lobbying efforts in 2014. Their primary focuses include defeating ATF 41P, expanding state ownership and hunting laws, and decreasing NFA transfer times. They have an aggressive plan in place for 2014, but need funding to properly execute. ASA would like to raise at least $25,000 at this year’s SHOT Show. Help them by supporting our industry, and supporting the association.

The auction will begin on Tuesday, and end at the close of the show on Thursday. Winners will be contacted on Friday. Each auction item will be located in the donor’s booth. Manufacturers are competing to see who can raise the most money for the ASA. The company that wins will receive an award for their efforts on behalf of the association.
