BATFE Raids Ares Armor

Sunday, March 16th, 2014

At around 1015 AM PDT, Saturday, March 15th, the BATFE executed a search warrant on SoCal-based Ares Armor. Several websites have reported that this raid was illegal because Ares Armor had been granted a Temporary Restraining Order earlier in the week by a federal judge of the US District Court, Southern District of California. This TRO prevented BATFE from executing a warrant based on what Ares Armor considered incorrect information regarding the 80% AR-15 lowers from EP Armory they had been selling.

Unfortunately, for Ares Armor, District Judge Janis L. Sammartino of the United States District Court, modified the TRO Friday afternoon. His order prevents Ares Armor from divesting itself of inventory and records. This prevents them from destroying or removing any evidence BATFE may be after. Also, the modification To the TRO clarifies that it does “not restrain lawful criminal proceedings.”

Ares Armor claims they were willing to give BATFE any unsold 80% lowers but that they would not provide BATFE with a list of their customers. This was the primary reason Ares Armor sought out the TRO in the first place.

BATFE asserts that Ares Armor has had in its possession thousands of firearms in the form of 80% lowers and, as they do not possess an FFL, this is a serious issue.

Ares Armor on the other hand, sold what they thought were perfectly legal, non-firearms in the form of 80% lower receivers for the AR-15. This means that they are only 80% complete and cannot function. Heretofore, it has been perfectly legal for individuals to purchase these non-firearms, which are simply machined aluminum or polymer and complete them on their own, for their own use, without serial number. BATFE has long held 80% receivers are non-firearms. We await to see what rule changes will be announced by BATFE that may affect the status of all 80% completed firearm blanks.

Diamondhead Safe-T-Gun

Diamondhead’s Safe-T-Gun is a polymer/composite AR-15 replica with the exact same dimensions as an actual rifle. Its design allows for the installation of actual rifle accessories. This makes it excellent for situations where a real weapon isn’t necessarily required, such as trade shows, product demonstrations, or safety instruction. Components include an upper receiver, lower receiver with buttstock, grip, and magazine, and the Safe-T-Bolt.

Made in the USA. Available in Black or Red finish.

Preparedness not Paranoia

My in and around car for day to day use is pretty non-descript. I’ve got no flashy in plain view inside worth stealing and “Kill ‘Em All” stickers plastered on the outside.

The items in my trunk are for when “Shit’s Gone South”. It would have to be a really bad day if I’ve got to deploy and employ my items, but I’d rather have and not need than to need and not have. If an active shooter is reaping havoc in a venue where my kids are, and if my local guys are not on the scene, I am going into that crisis site like a scalded ape.

The big dumb reflective vest is to separate me from the shit head in the venue. The rifle’s sight has cross hairs as well as bats (in the event the bats shit the bed). The battle bag has eight loaded mags. Inside of the battle bag I’ve got water, eyes, ears and lube. In the Day and a half bag I’ve got more “Shoot, Move, Communicate and Medicate.” I’ve got also, grease pencils, multi tool, chem lights, reading glasses (that’s right), lighter, 550 cord, and a few other nick knacks.

Patrick McNamara
SGM, US Army (Ret)

McNamara_pistol
Patrick McNamara spent twenty-two years in the United States Army in a myriad of special operations units. When he worked in the premier Special Missions Unit, he became an impeccable marksman, shooting with accurate, lethal results and tactical effectiveness. McNamara has trained tactical applications of shooting to people of all levels of marksmanship, from varsity level soldiers, and police officers who work the streets to civilians with little to no time behind the trigger.

His military experience quickly taught him that there is more to tactical marksmanship than merely squeezing the trigger. Utilizing his years of experience, McNamara developed a training methodology that is safe, effective and combat relevant and encourages a continuous thought process. This methodology teaches how to maintain safety at all times and choose targets that force accountability, as well as provides courses covering several categories, including individual, collective, on line and standards.

While serving as his Unit’s Marksmanship NCO, he developed his own marksmanship club with NRA, CMP, and USPSA affiliations. Mac ran monthly IPSC matches and ran semi annual military marksmanship championships to encourage marksmanship fundamentals and competitiveness throughout the Army.

He retired from the Army’s premier hostage rescue unit as a Sergeant Major and is the author of T.A.P.S. (Tactical Application of Practical Shooting).

Utah Shall Sign Bill Passes Legislature, Moves To Governor

Friday, March 14th, 2014

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Just before midnight on Thursday, the Utah State Senate voted unanimously to pass House Bill 373, with amendment, by a final tally of 27 – 0 – 2. Sponsored by Rep. Ryan Wilcox (R-7) and Sen. Mark Madsen (R-13), the bill seeks to ensure that law abiding citizens within the state would receive their CLEO signature within 15 days of submitting their NFA application.

Following its passage by the Senate, it was then sent to the House for concurrence. At 11:50 PM local time, with ten minutes to spare before the midnight deadline, the House voted to accept the amendment, which reinstated the 15 day time period, and unanimously passed HB 373 by a final vote count of 68 – 0 – 7.

The American Silencer Association would like to thank everyone who took the time to contact their legislators in Utah in support of HB 373. We would also like to thank Rep. Wilcox and Sen. Madsen for their hard work and tenacity on the issue. Finally, we would like to thank the National Rifle Association for having gone above and beyond to support this legislation.

HB 373 will now go to Governor Gary Herbert to be signed into law. Given the overwhelming support in the legislature, it is likely that he will do so.

Nonetheless, please contact Gov. Herbert and urge him to sign HB 373. Contact information can be found here: http://utah.gov/governor/contact/
