BCM Introduces the KeyMod 13″ Modular Handguard

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

After more than 12 months of development and field testing, BCM is giving us an official glimpse the BCM KMR-13 KeyMod™ 13″ Modular Handguard.

KMR-13 from BCM

An ultra-light modular handguard for the AR platform, the KMR series of handguards is built around the KeyMod attachment system designed and made public domain by Eric Kincel, Director of Research and Development at BCM, in 2012. Manufactured from an exclusive blended aluminum and magnesium alloy, the BCM KMR weighs 30-40% less than pure aluminum with the same strength properties. The BCM KMR also features a proprietary patent pending mounting, indexing and lock up system that mitigates 12:00 rail movement due to heat generated from the barrel nut.

The KMR-13 has seen extensive field trials with the instructors attached to the BCM Gunfighter Program including Pat Rogers, Larry Vickers, Travis Haley and Mike Pannone, running the platform regularly for over 8 months now.

LAV
Larry Vickers said of the KMR-13, “With their KMR handguard, BCM has raised the bar above any other handguard being issued today and has set a new gold standard for lightweight modular rails!

Pat Rogers
Pat Rogers also spoke on the platform, “The KeyMod rail is light – extremely light – and the Key Mod slots add another dimension to mounting solutions, while keeping the weight of mounts for mission essential equipment down.

Travis Haley
Travis Haley was quoted as saying, “BCM has changed the conversation and built their Keymod Handguard from an Aluminum Magnesium Alloy, creating a a handguard that is the lightest free float on the market without sacrificing the rigidity or durability of the platform.

The BCM KMR will be on display at SHOT Show in the TNVC (6502), TangoDown (32303) and Battle Comp Enterprises (20068) booths.

Coming Soon to Bravo Company USA and BCM distributors, you can read more about the KMR-13 at www.BravoCompanyMFG.com/kmr.

SOLKOA Survival Systems – New Brand Name Clears Up Market Confusion

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

SOLKOA, Inc. recognized their civilian brand, Fastfire, did not effectively represent their many non-fire related survival products so they have initiated SOLKOA Survival Systems for their consumer survival products line. This includes the SUMA Survival Kit I use.

With more than 200 years of combined instructor experience among its professional staff, SOLKOA, Inc has been quietly producing a wide variety of highly-specialized emergency survival capabilities along with its expert instruction for the US military and other high-risk organizations since 2005.

SOLKOA’s specialized military survival gear usually contains sensitive items that will never be available to the civilian market, but SOLKOA’s Fastfire brand created some market confusion making it difficult for SOLKOA to clearly promote their expanding civilian product line.

The SHOT show directory lists their overall corporate name SOLKOA, Inc. and they will be in booth #32513 in the law enforcement and military section; you should drop by and visit with them, they are the real deal and I rely on their products.

So from now on the civilian products line will be SOLKOA Survival Systems.

OSS Technology Corp is a new spinoff company from Operators Suppressor Systems . In addition to the new CHRISTIAN and BANNAR brakes, OSS Technology Corp is also teasing us with their upcoming Mirage Mitigation Device which will redirect the heat dissipating from a suppressor to the side so that it will not obscure the shooter’s view over the sights of the target.

MagPod In Production

Monday, January 6th, 2014

MagPod has been plagued with delay after delay but we are pleased to tell you that they are in production with an estimated delivery of March. They’ve also been issued a US patent.

I’ve been a longtime fan of the MagPod which is an aftermarket floor plate modification for the Magpul M2 magazine. Once installed it transforms your magazine into a very effective monopod. In fact, it works so well that you can use it to stand your carbine on the magazine. Additionally, it offers an excellent grip to grab the mag from its pouch. The MagPod I have is a couple of generations old and changes have been focused on manufacturability rather than function.

Dale Comstock – “American Badass”

Monday, January 6th, 2014

This is a trailer for Former Delta Force Operator Dale Comstock‘s book, “American Badass: The true story of a modern day Spartan“. Although I’ve never met Comstock, we have several mutual friends who speak very highly of him.

American Badass

I’ve read the book and purchased it a couple of months ago. It’s a quick read and I really enjoyed it. I will tell you a couple of things up front. It is from a small publisher and we are seeing lots of these from former military personnel hitting the shelves. Unfortunately, that means I ran across some typos. It also means that it’s not what I would consider a traditional biography. It’s really more of a collection of short chapters describing various events in his life without any consistent arc structure linking them together. One chapter doesn’t necessarily segue to the next and at times they kind of jump around. Instead, there are what I consider several sections that are chained by periods in Comstock’s life. But, this structure also allow you to pick the book up and knock out a few chapters at a whack. You can easily put it down and come back to it without losing your place.

While the book may feature an unconventional structure, I liked it and I highly suggest you pick up a copy. It’s fascinating and can be quite motivating. For example, the info on his combat experience during Urgent Fury as well as the Modelo Prison raid is great and I enjoyed reading it. And in the OTC section Comstock discusses a visualization technique he discovered as a kid which we learn about in an earlier chapter. There’s also a section I can relate to having been a single father on active duty. Finally, I’d like to thank him for teaching me that the term “butt-pirate” is hyphenated.

“American Baddass” is a great read that will take you into the life of a guy you may have seen on TV or mentioned on FaceBook. But I don’t think the tale of Dale Comstock is anywhere near its final chapter and I don’t think he shared everything about his life that he should have. Perhaps one day, he’ll publish a sequel. When he does, I can assure you, I’ll read it.
