Sunday, March 29th, 2009The three day conference is designed to provide industry with a venue to learn about USSOCOM’s acquisition system as well as upcoming procurement opportunities. Registration for attendees has opened. Additionally, there are still booths available and sponsorship opportunities available for exhibitors. This year exhibitors will be allowed to sponsor individuals for the tradeshow at $25.00 per badge. The show is one of the best available with exhibitors focused specifically on the SOF market.

We have been getting lots of feedback from our readers over the past few weeks and even a couple of stories so if you want to write for Soldier Systems Daily its pretty simple. Just contact the Editor with your article idea. Seriously, that’s all you have to do. Generally, we want an article that is a couple of paragraphs long and answers the basic who, what, where, when, why, and how. Pictures are also helpful but make sure you have the permission of the owners. We are happy to give you a by-line if you ask. One caveat for vendors, we will happily post press releases but the impact is much greater if someone checks out your product and writes an article on it.

I read a good book over the weekend. Recently released, the cover of “Emergency” claims that it “This Book Will Save Your Life”. While there are a fair number of good pointers throughout the book, it’s really an autobiographical journey of self-discovery. We follow the author, Neil Strauss as he begins to realize that the world he lives in is a much more dangerous place than he always believed. Having taken the fruits of civilization for granted he begins his transformation from sheeple to survivor to sheep dog. While his initial motivations are somewhat questionable, I feel he becomes a better man and ultimately, better neighbor for having made the trip. Readers will find familiar personalities, schools, and TTPs in the book. I highly suggest you pick up this book, it is an entertaining read and the part that I found most enjoyable was how Strauss begins to see the world in a more pragmatic light and masters his fears.

As odd of a mash up as that may sound that is exactly what happened on HBO’s “You’re Welcome America” starring Will Ferrell. As I watched him lampoon President Bush, the MilSpecMonkey symbol appeared during a hilarious skit about a brigade of attack monkeys training in secret at Fort Bragg. Sure, some of the show was over the top, but it was a good laugh all around.
Armor Survey – Reader Assistance Requested
