Team MultiCam Presents – Luke Johnson

Friday, September 15th, 2017

This installment of the Team MultiCam video series centers on off-road truck racer Luke Johnson. Luke is the current points leader in the Pro 2 category of the TORC short course truck series.

He also competes in the Best in the Desert and SCORE International series for the Cops Racing team. When not racing, Luke teaches on and off-road driving capabilities to our nation’s elite Special Operations forces along with his father. His appreciation for the military has only grown stronger after working so closely with them for years. He has become friends with a great many of the Soldiers he has trained, heard their stories of valor, sacrifice, and loss and is passionate about giving back.

For the past 37 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) has been dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of Special Operations Personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty or are severely wounded and hospitalized as a result of wounds sustained in combat. SOWF ensures full college scholarships to the surviving children of Special Operators who die in the line of duty. Additionally, SOWF provides ongoing support and academic counseling to make sure every student has the opportunity to do well in school. The Foundation also provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded Special Operators to allow their families to be with them in the hospital and to offset expenses associated with their injuries.

Luke Johnson will be using his racing efforts to increase the exposure of his fundraising with the hopes of raising as much money as possible for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Please help by donating to his GoFundMe page today. Thank you for your support and please spread the word.

B.E. Meyers – BOARS-M2

Friday, September 15th, 2017

Basic RGB

B.E. Meyers & Co., Inc. is pleased to announce the release of a revolutionary new optics and accessory rail system called the BOARS-M2 (B.E. Meyers Optics & Accessories Rail System) for the M2, M2A1, M3 series .50 caliber heavy machine gun platforms.

BOARS INFO 2

The BOARS – M2 mount is a low-profile mounting solution that offers a quick-disconnect with true return-to-zero reattach. The BOARS-M2 represents a solution to the shortcomings of current M2 platform heavy machine gun optics and accessories mounting systems. By incorporating a modular design, and compact dimensions that respond to the needs of the end user, the BOARS-M2 provides vastly increased capabilities to the current M2 platform. Key features for the BOARS-M2 include: a quick detach optics/laser rail, snag free design, non-marring installation, low height-over-bore, and oversized pass through aperture for use with iron sights.

BOARS INFO 2

The BOARS-M2 is comprised of two parts: the lower base and a quick-detach optics/accessory rail. This allows for quick and effective changes between day and night optics without any loss of zero. In addition, cleaning and maintenance of the M2 Weapon platform with an optics mount is simplified with the BOARS-M2. Legacy systems require the complete removal of the optic and mount (resulting in a complete loss of zero), whereas the BOARS-M2 only requires the quick-detach optics/accessory rail to be removed, thus preserving optic zero once all components have been re-installed.

BOARS INFO 2

With an overall height measuring in at a diminutive 2.1 inches over the top of the receiver, the BOARS-M2 is almost half as tall as current Optic/accessory mounting solutions. The existing modified TVS-5 style mount designed in the 1970’s measures in at 4.0 inches over the height of the receiver. This drastic reduction in height translates into a lower end-user defilade and increased operator survivability during use. Despite such a low profile, the BOARS-M2 still incorporates an effective pass-through aperture for use with the iron sights if necessary.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – Typhoon FR/Breathable Garments for Maritime Ops

Friday, September 15th, 2017

We’re presenting this Friday Focus from DSEI in London where we’ll take a look at two new maritime clothing systems from Typhoon International. Although FirstSpear does not manufacture Typhoon’s gear, the two companies have worked together as solution provides for multiple international customers. In fact, in these photos you’ll see FirstSpear and Typhoon offerings presented in complimentary fashion. Now in their 70th year, Typhoon International manufactures drysuits for some of the world’s most elite forces. Let’s take a look at two of their latest offerings, the FR/Breathable Coxswain/Crew Member Suit and the FR/Breathable Assault Suit. Both suits are manufactured from a WL Gore provided fabric which combines a waterproof/breathable membrane with their Pyrad FR capability which offers FR comparable to Nomex.

The FR/Breathable Coxswain/Crew Member Suit is a two piece design with a smock top and salopette pant. It weighs in at 1.35kg.

The hood is removable and Typhoon offers a couple of different styles. You’ll notice a slight gap at the hood zip. This is to accommodate a comms cord.

The smock also offers eel skin neck and cuff seals as well as pockets on the upper arm.

The salopettes are worn with braces (suspenders) and offer a convenience zip at the front. Finally, there’s a Kevlar overlay on the seat and knees.

The Assault Suit is a one-pice drysuit weighing under 1kg. Designed to go fast and light, it’s more of an operational suit than for training.

It has chest access, a convenience zipper at the front and Kevlar reinforced seat, elbows and knees.

The drysuit upper arm pockets are more streamlined than the versions on the smock.

While the garments are seen here in Black and UK MultiTerrain Pattern, Typhoon told me they cannot offer MTP to customers outside of MoD, but will use MultiCam instead. They also offer Green versions of these garments. Sizes Small-XXLarge.

DSEI 17 – CTOMS Packs Systems

Thursday, September 14th, 2017

CTOMS has been working on pack systems.

IMG_4131

What started as a Medical Pack project for CTOMS has morphed into a more generic pack which can be configured for a wide variety of applications by the user. This is the third generation of the 2nd Line pack.

IMG_4133

One of the efficiencies CTOMS has realized while developing packs is that they’ve gone to a standard shoulder strap and belt systems. The suspension system seen here is for wear with armor. You’ll note the enhanced lumbar support to fill the gap at the lower back along with stabilizers along the side.

IMG_4119

Additionally, they’ve added the capacity for a waist belt which is modular. It features both PALS webbing as well as a gear loop. There are zippers down each side of the rear panel of the pack in order to attach mission panels. They are also working on a MALICE frame retrofit for this pack.

IMG_4125

The next pack is the Resolute. It’s a big, boxy pack which is intended for mounting on wall systems or on aircraft for quick access to medical gear.

IMG_4123

It will accept the new suspension system and mission panels.

IMG_4124

The Assault pack (seen below) has been updated to make it compatible with the rest of the line. For instance, they added Zippers at the rear panel to accommodate mission panels. The pack itself is a mission panel and can be connected to the other packs.

IMG_4126

IMG_4127

They’ve also developed the Alert pack which is a smaller version of the Assault pack and can be seen to the right in the photo below. It too will function as a mission panel.

IMG_4128

The D2 Bag is a second generation fanny pack. They modified the shape to offer better usage of the space. It also has a full HDPE liner which can be removed and replaced with a modlable splint. You use the pack waist belt to turn this into a waist pack for down the hoist ops.

IMG_4129

CTOMS has introduced their version of the tried and true M-3 tri-fold combat lifesaver bag. They removed the flap, made it larger and added Velcro so you can add tags.

IMG_4132

Finally, CTOMS offers a wide variety of internal organizers which can be seen mounted throughout the article.
