JP Enterprises Announces the Release of their .875 Detent Adjustable Gas Block

Friday, February 3rd, 2017

Hugo, MN – Offering new options for the underserved market of barrels with .875 gas block journals, JP Enterprises debuts an all-new entry into their line of adjustable gas blocks. The two-piece design of the new JPGS-10D allows for easier installations on barrels with pinned and welded muzzle treatments. At the same time, the new click-adjustable detent system allows for a repeatable setup and secure retention of the gas screw.

The new detent mechanism of the JPGS-10D eliminates the need to access the front of the block for adjustment, which can be an issue when running extended hand guards. Access for adjustment is easily done from the side of JP hand guards. Many other brands of hand guard are also compatible.

In addition to allowing quick and repeatable adjustment increments, the ball detent is captured. Removal of the gas adjustment screw can be done without the worry of losing small parts.

This stainless steel gas block comes on the heels of JP’s existing .750 model (JPGS-9D) with a new .936 version coming out later in 2017.

“We were the first on the market with adjustable gas systems, the first of which we came out with circa 1993,” stated JP Enterprises founder John Paul. “We’ve always seen the tuning of the operating system as crucial to optimizing the function of the rifle overall and cutting down on recoil. These gas blocks elevate that to an entirely new level.”

SHOT Show 17 – FN 16 Tactical II Pro Series

Monday, January 30th, 2017

I was told by a little bird to stop by the FN America booth and take a look at the select fire ARs. Sure enough, my trip was rewarded with the FN 16 Tactical II Pro.  This one had an 11.5″ barrel but as I understand it, there will be 10.3″, 11.5″, 12.5″, 14.5″, 14.5″ pinned, 16″ and 18″ hammer forged barrels featuring a 1/7 twist and the Hodge barrel profile. Oh yeah, did I mention that the Pro was developed in conjunction with Hodge Defense Systems?

FN has incorporated the SureFire WarComp.

You’ll notice the Hodge MLok handguard with FN badging, Magpul grip and stock along with oversized Bolt Catch.

The thing about the Pro series carbines is that they are being offered as COTS options for government customers, but I’m hoping to see them offered commercially soon, as well.

Olympic Arms To Close Doors

Thursday, January 26th, 2017

Earlier today, Olympic Arms announced that they are closing their doors at the end of February. I’m sorry to see them go, for nostalgia reasons, if for no other. My first AR was an Oly, which I bought in 1991, while stationed at Fort Bragg.

After more than 40 years of business, it is with great sorrow that we announce that February 28th, 2017 will be the last day of operation for Olympic Arms, Inc.

The Schuetz family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all their friends, associates, and partners that have been a part of the Olympic Arms experience. Most of all we would like to thank our loyal customers and patrons who have been with us all this time.

In the course of closing, we are announcing the following changes in policy effective immediately:

All sales are final.
No refunds or returns will be accepted after 1-25-2017.
On-line Shopping Cart will be active and effective while supplies last.
All Warranty service ceases 1-25-2017. Warranty work and repairs currently in-house will be serviced and returned.
New orders will only be taken for inventory currently in stock, or that can be built from remaining inventory.
All inventory will be liquidated.
ALL SALES will cease at close of business 28 February, 2017

Thank you for your patronage.

What makes this an even bigger surprise, is that just yesterday, they had put out an announcement to new dealers on Facebook.

SHOT Show 17 – Daniel Defense DDM4V7S

Monday, January 23rd, 2017

Although there was plenty to check out in Daniel Defense’s rather large booth, the DDM4V7S caught the eye of more than one member of the gun press.

This 5.56 carbine weighs 5.8 lbs and sports a 11.5″ Cold Hammer Forged barrel with a Government profile and carbine length gas system.  It’s topped off with a DD Flash Suppressor.

Note the Daniel Defense furniture which includes Collapsible Buttstock, Pistol Grip and Vertical Fore Grip as well as 32 round magazine.

I’ve long been a fan of DD’s Rock and Lock Fixed Front and Rear sights. They are solid and easy to install making them great back up sights. Based on the A1-style, they are simple to adjust and are always there when you need them.

This close up shows you how the MFR XS 10″ rail attaches.

Daniel Defense firearms and accessories are available for unit and agency purchase through ADS.

SHOT Show 17 – Battle Arms Development

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Last year, Battle Arms Development shared images of an AR that could be described as a work of art. The combination of wood and metal caused quite a reaction on the internet. At this year’s SHOT Show, they are showing a pre-production SBR in .300.

Aesthetically, I really like the combination of the Green Cerakote and Wood.  They plan to offer the furniture as stand alone pieces as well as a complete carbine. The wood on the forend and grip are Walnut while the cheekrest on the collapsible PDW stock is coated metal.

SHOT Show 17 – ZEV Technologies Single Stage Rifle Trigger

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017

Designed for use with AR-style weapons, this is the new SSR Trigger from ZEV Technologies. The trigger’s engagement, over travel and rest can be adjusted and are the adjustments are made under detention so no loktite is required to make sure they don’t drift.

Each trigger ships with both 3 to 3.5 or 5 to 5.5 lbs pull weight springs so the shooter can choose. The SSR trigger also features a PVD, TiCN Copper coating. Finally, the trigger bow has been extended to allow the pad of the finger to more easily find its natural firing position.

FirstSpear Range Day – SureFire Institute SFI-15 Lower Receiver

Monday, January 16th, 2017

SureFire Institute has just introduced their new Polymer lower receiver for AR-style rifles.

Developed in conjunction with E3 Arms, they took a look at the internal firing mechanism to improve trigger pull and reset. However, the selector lever can be moved to Safe with the hammer forward or to the rear. The SFI-15 can be stored on Safe no matter what condition the rifle is in, and the weapon can immediately be placed on Safe while dealing with a malfunction.

It weighs 1.1 lbs. I realize many are hesitant to use a polymer lower but SFI says that the material has a tensile strength of 33,500 psi, tensile elongation of 2.5-3.5% and flexural strength of 50,000 psi.
