Colt Introduces the Colt Combat Unit Carbine Featuring Mid-Length Gas System

Thursday, October 20th, 2016

We recently gave you a sneak peek of the new Colt Combat Unit™ Carbine. This is Colt’s official release.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 19, 2016) – The Colt M4 continues to be the platform of choice amongst Military, Law Enforcement, and firearms enthusiasts alike. Now Colt is offering yet another option for enthusiasts looking for that robust and well-fielded platform – the Colt Combat UnitTM carbine, featuring Colt’s new mid-length gas system.
The Colt Combat UnitTM carbine offers many of the features you love about the Colt M4 platform, but now Colt is introducing its first production mid-length gas system. “Producing a mid-length gas system was the logical next-step for us, and it’s long overdue,” said Justin Baldini, Director of Product Marketing for Colt. “Shooters will find that by moving the gas block closer to the muzzle as this mid-length gas system does, the felt recoil is more constant with what is fielded by our troops carrying a 14.5” barrel M4.”

The Colt Combat UnitTM is a team of Sponsored Shooters and Product Advisors that Colt has worked closely with to develop the Colt Combat UnitTM line of firearms that are tailored to the needs of today’s more savvy Operators, Law Enforcement, and firearms enthusiasts. “When we decided to put together the Colt Combat UnitTM team, we sought out the upper echelon of the world of elite operator training. These are all former Special Forces trainers who are helping us understand what the folks in the field want from their firearms, which has been proven with the success of the Colt Combat UnitTM Rail Gun®.”

The Colt Combat UnitTM carbine was developed with the help of legendary trainers Mike Pannone, Ken Hackathorn, and Daryl Holland. It features a Magpul® SL® buttstock and pistol grip as well as a MOE® trigger guard. The carbine is the first to feature Colt’s new mid-length gas system. It has a low profile gas block which allows for the use of its M-LOK® capable Centurion CMR free floated forend. The Colt Combat UnitTM carbine (SKU – LE6960-CCU) has an MSRP of $1,299 and is available exclusively from TALO Distributors.

AUSA – LWRC International CSASS

Friday, October 7th, 2016

Although LWRC International didn’t submit a candidate for the US Army’s Compact Semi Automatic Sniper System solicitation, they did develop one. This is their solution.

Obviously, this 12″ gun is chambered in 7.62 NATO. Now get this, it has a 20 position gas block. You should be able to run just about any ammo, suppressed or unsuppressed. It’s a monoforged upper receiver with an LWRCi NiCorr treated spiral fluted barrel. The CSASS comes standard with LWRCi Skirmish Back-Up Iron Sights. The lower is fully ambidextrous including bolt catch and release, magazine release and selector lever. The trigger is a Geissele SSA Two-Stage Precision model.

MDM – Geissele Automatics Bayonet Mount

Thursday, September 29th, 2016

The M-4/16 has a bayonet lug just below the barrel due to a requirement that it has the ability to mount a bayonet. Unfortunately, that lug gets in the way when you want to use an extended handguard.

When Geissele was developing their submission for the cancelled M-4A1+ RFI, they decided to develop this Bayonet Mount which attaches to a Picatinny rail section at the bottom of a handguard.

This frees up a lot of real estate.
