The Full 9 – Modified Desert Night Parka

Monday, April 22nd, 2019

First off hello to all SSD readers, it’s a great pleasure to be here.

TheFull9 is something I created as a pastime in the form of just discussing interesting gear, uniforms, camo kit and firearms.  Material comes both from my own collection and things that I find on my travels and at shows like SHOT.  One item of military apparel I posted not too long ago was the modified Desert Night parka pictured above and since that time an awful lot of people had asked me how they could go about getting one of their own.  If you happen to be interested in finding out the answer to that question you can follow the link below to my own site for all the details:

The blog entry is also posted here on facebook if you happen to use that platform.

Thanks folks

Two More NATO Member States Procure Rheinmetall’s Fast-acting ROSY Smoke/Obscurant System

Thursday, April 18th, 2019

Two NATO member nations have opted to purchase Rheinmetall’s ROSY rapid smoke/obscurant system for protecting their vehicle families. This versatile modular system thus continues to expand its presence in the global force protection market. The two orders are worth several million euros.

Delivery of 126 systems to Spanish defence contractor URO Vehículos Especiales S.A. (UROVESA) is set to begin in April 2019. UROVESA will be installing these systems in 126 out of 139 VAMTAC protected patrol vehicles purchased by the Portuguese armed forces in July 2018 via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, or NSPA. Delivery of the systems will be complete in March 2020.

Pre-series delivery in response to another order begins in May 2019, this time from Belgium. Here, Rheinmetall is acting as subcontractor for the British company Jankel, which is supplying the Belgian Army with the Light Troop Transport Vehicle, or LTTV. All 199 of the vehicles are being prepared for integration of the system, in addition to the supply of control units and launchers for 167 vehicles. Series production commences in February 2020 and will be complete the same year.

These two orders mean that ROSY will soon be in service in no fewer than eleven countries. ROSY provides protection from surprise attacks by creating a wall of smoke/obscurant that renders vehicles invisible to the enemy. Unlike conventional smoke/obscurant systems, it not only produces an instantaneous, extensive, multispectral interruption in the line of sight, but also generates a dynamic smoke screen that provides moving assets with long-lasting protection.

Assuring 360° protection, the system’s multi-mission capability offers a strong defence against multiple assaults, including stream and wave attacks. Thanks to effective screening measures in the visual and infrared spectrum, including integrated IR jamming and decoying effects, ROSY reliably wards off all TV-, EO-, IR-, IIR-, laser- and SACLOS-guided weapons.

ROSY is available in a number of different versions. Fundamentally suitable for vehicles of all types, ROSY_L encompasses a basic system consisting of one control unit per vehicle as well as one to four launchers which, depending on the model, can hold two or three magazines each. The modular variant ROSY_Mod lends itself to small weapon stations and small vehicles of the kind used by special forces, for example. ROSY_Mod can be directly and invisibly integrated into the vehicle without a launcher. ROSY_N was specially developed to provide small naval and coast guard vessels with effective protection.

SPARTANAT: CONCAMO and HK G95K in the field

Wednesday, April 17th, 2019

Every camouflage pattern is only just as good as its application. CONCAMO is new, was presented during IWA 2018 and is going its way ever since: this time straight to Heckler & Koch. During a joint photoshoot with the German weapons manufacturer on their own testing grounds, not only the best gear in CONCAMO was being used. It also featured two special main characters: G27 and G95 (pictured below), as well as some other newcomers…

CONCAMO has already come so far to be “operational”. Both men are fully equipped. And in the course of this article we will reveal step by step what you can see on the pictures. For starters the new G95 for the German Special Forces. The HK416A7 is going to be adopted by the KSK as well as the frogmen.

The bigger brother is the G27, which is already in use by the Bundeswehr. Using the nomenclature of Heckler & Koch, it is a HK417. This weapon is not only available as DMR, but also as equipment for the Special Forces with a higher calibre.

What we also see with this wonderful new pictures is, how CONCAMO blends into the natural environment. The camouflage pattern feels right at home in the forest with all its different facets. The G27 is equipped with the Elcan Specter DR for calibre 7,62.

Moss and leaves, the play of the light. The marksman in CONCAMO nearly disappears on the surface of a clearing at the testing grounds of Heckler & Koch

At the border of the forest both men are nearly invisible as well – without any additional means of camouflage. If you want to know more about the background of CONCAMO: here is our Interview with Matthias Bürgin, who developed the pattern.

This camouflage makes also use of the underground in the freshly cut forest. Even if both men are standing, they are hard to recognize at first glance. CONCAMO works how camouflage is supposed to: it blurs the outlines.

Even the brown forest soil has no issues with the new camouflage pattern. If you want to see more field tests with CONCAMO: CONCAMO in the field 1. And here: field test 2.

The uniform worn by both of the pictured test persons is the new Striker Gen. 2 by UF PRO. It was already presented by SPARTANAT here. The set is available directly from UF PRO: Here the CONCAMO page of UF PRO.

Not everyone wants to show their faces, we understand that… Camouflage materials for advanced users are being provided by NONVIDE – we looked at their first products during IWA 2019. The mask is made of a very thin material, which does not obstruct breathing. The camouflage effect however, is obvious.

There is no soldier without a backpack. The one on the users back is the Modular 30 pack by Tasmanian Tiger – we discovered the very first piece as a unicorn during Shot Show 2019 in Las Vegas. The backpack is being reviewed at our site. The CONCAMO version will be available from June 2019 – here we can show you some more pictures, exclusively for you.

In fact, not after a shootout, but after a shooting: men without the mask. Matthias Bürgin (left) is the man behind CONCAMO. With him: Ripperkon, the well-known German blogger on gear, climber and photographer. As a result of CONCAMO being so good in blurring outlines, you can only see at second glance that both of them are wearing full kit. The plate carrier is from md-textil.

Here you can see the detailed pictures from IWA 2019:

The secret star is the HK416A7 of Heckler & Koch, however. Pictured with the new HK polymer magazines by the way. The G95 will be handed out to German Special Forces soon. We are providing the current status of the G95 HERE.

Invisible Camo Flatlay

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (1 April 2019)— UF PRO® today announced it has discovered the Holy Grail of camouflage, a pattern impossible to see even when standing within arm’s length of the wearer.

The maker of advanced-technology tactical jackets, shirts, pants, hats, caps, and accessories said it plans to show off this camouflage at a private unveiling ceremony set at an undisclosed location. The company added that defence ministers and top military commanders from around the world are expected to attend for a first-hand look.

“There’s never been anything like this fully invisible camouflage because, to the human eye, there’s not anything there at all,” said a beaming Armin Wagner, head of UF PRO® product development.

“At UF PRO® we always strive to challenge the status quo,” he continued. “That’s why we decided to develop full-invisibility camouflage—and in so doing take our European and worldwide reputation as a best-in-class camouflage resource to a unique, new level. Specifically, a UF PRO® level.”

Wagner hailed the new product as a “masterpiece of invisibility.” He said the technical craftsmanship involved in its creation was unprecedented among makers of combat uniforms.

Thursday, March 28th, 2019

Introducing the new UFPRO® Striker HT Combat Pants, Striker XT Gen.2 Combat Shirt and Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat in Prym1 Woodlands®. The new limited range was launched at IWA Show 19.

“Prym1 Camo® has been designed as the best camouflage system for all tactical operations. From Special Operations to local law enforcement applications, Prym1 Camo® patterns work together to offer a military unit a system of patterns that will conceal and blend into the surrounding elements at all times.

Our patterns allow full flexibility of movement through various terrains, by utilising the depth of colours, shadows and highlights with the organic shapes found on predators in the wild. Prym1 Camo® was built on the basis of being a true hybrid camo. A camouflage pattern that is truly versatile and adaptive, capable of not only blending, but matching a multitude of environments. By using organic, varying shapes in our patterns, it helps to achieve a natural concealment with the terrain you are deployed in, creating a camouflage with the effectiveness of an alpha predator.

By understanding the rigours of modern operations, military personnel need trust in their camouflage to be effective in multiple types of terrain within any given environment across a single mission. When your concealment determines your survival, you want to be dressed like a predator.” – Stacie Walker, Founder & President of Prym1 Camo®
