Military Kid Announced as Host of MCEC Podcast for Month of the Military Child

Sunday, April 4th, 2021

HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The Military Child Education Coalition® announced today a military-connected high school senior from North Carolina has been named host of the nonprofit’s weekly podcast series throughout April in recognition of the Month of the Military Child.

Tatihana L., a senior from Swansboro High School in N.C., was chosen from more than 500 MCEC® Student to Student® programs to lead the MCEC Podcast series. Tatihana is the daughter of a U.S. Army Soldier and currently serves as her school’s S2S™ president.

“We are so proud to have Tatihana as our host as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child,” said Dr. Becky Porter, MCEC president and CEO. “This young lady represents everything that is great about being a military-connected student, and her leadership has made such a huge impact on her fellow students, the Onslow County School system, and the local community in North Carolina.”

This past November, the Swansboro High School S2S team was named the MCEC National High School S2S Team of the Year during the organization’s virtual Education Summit.

The podcast series begins April 1 with Tatihana sharing her story of what life is like as a military-connected student, dealing with reunifications and PTSD, and the value of S2S for students and the local community. Two of the featured interviews include:

• Zeke McCarley – As one of five children, Zeke shares his story of what it’s like to be a military kid and how he’s gained independence through determination.

• U.S. Army 1st Lt. Simone Askew – Askew shares her story of making history during her time at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. as the first woman of color to earn the highest rank of First Captain.

Other interviews are planned for the month, and additional promotion will follow on the MCEC official website at MilitaryChild.org and the nonprofit’s social media accounts at Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

MCEC Podcast Program Manager Tara Gleason and the MCEC Student Achievement Program Manager, Debra Longley, presented the concept of having a student lead the podcast series several months ago. Their goal was to recognize a leader from the S2S program, which includes students from across the U.S. and Europe, to serve as a spokesperson and showcase the impact military-connected students have on their local communities.

As part of her role, Tatihana is participating in all aspects of the podcast including: preparation, research, generating questions, leading all interviews, and supporting portions of the editing process.

All podcasts are posted to the official MCEC Facebook page every Friday and available for download on Podbean and iTunes.

Revision Announces New Collection of Eyewear Products to Benefit Military & Law Enforcement Charities

Tuesday, March 30th, 2021

ESSEX JUNCTION, VERMONT (March 29, 2021) – Revision Military is proud to announce The Honor Collection™, a new category of products where 20% of the proceeds from each purchase is donated directly to a select military or law enforcement charity.

The first offering of The Honor Collection is a special law enforcement edition StingerHawk® spectacle, featuring a unique, blue line-branded frame and corresponding microfiber storage pouch. Proceeds will benefit Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing resources to help the families and co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty, while also offering training and assistance to law enforcement agencies nationwide on responding to the tragic loss of a member of the law enforcement profession.

Revision has selected Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) as the beneficiary of the first Honor Collection™ product offering. 20% of all proceeds of Revision StingerHawk® LE Edition products will be donated directly to C.O.P.S.

“We believe in the critical importance of giving back,” said Revision CEO, Amy S. Coyne, “especially to organizations that directly benefit men and women in uniform and their families. I’m thrilled to announce our new Honor Collection of products, and our support of the law enforcement community with our first release benefiting C.O.P.S. There are so many great organizations supporting law enforcement, but we were drawn to C.O.P.S. by its mission, professionalism and the great impact they have on their community.”

“It’s been a rough year for our country, especially on our law enforcement heroes,” said C.O.P.S. Executive Director, Dianne Bernhard. “In addition to line-of-duty deaths, we’ve seen far too many officers impacted by COVID-19, which more than doubled the amount of survivors C.O.P.S. has added to our membership in 2020 and 2021. With the support of Revision’s Honor Collection, C.O.P.S. is able to continue planning our healing programs, conferences, and trainings at no cost to the survivor or attendee. The price they have paid is already much too high.”

In response to the recent urgent demand for laser protection, Revision has successfully delivered thousands of ballistic laser protective lenses to law enforcement around the United States. After an initial rapid delivery to the Department of Homeland Security, Revision received a dramatic increase of inquiries from Federal, State, and Local departments, and Individual Officers seeking protection from this emerging threat. Since last summer, reported incidents of laser attacks on law enforcement have skyrocketed around the nation leading to a variety of eye effects and injuries, including reports of partial blindness. While handheld lasers aren’t new, their widespread use with intent to harm is increasing, just as the demand for laser protective eyewear to prevent effects and injuries.

Revision’s StingerHawk® Law Enforcement Edition kits offer blue-line branded frame, adjustable nosepiece, choice of clear, smoke or FT-2 laser protective lens and branded microfiber pouch. All products exceed military-spec ballistic standards, offer world-class OcuMax® anti-fog performance, and optional integrated prescription correction solution.

The Honor Collection is available exclusively on the Revision website, and StingerHawk LE Edition kits are priced with special introductory offer of 30% off MSRP. LE Edition kits include a StingerHawk blue line-branded frame, an adjustable nosepiece, choice of clear, smoke or FT-2 laser protective lens and an blue line-branded microfiber pouch. All products exceed military-spec ballistic standards, offer world-class OcuMax® anti-fog performance, and an optional integrated prescription correction solution.

Sean Matson Will Attempt To Break Men’s 1 mile Bomb-Suit World Record

Thursday, March 18th, 2021

On 3 April 2021, I am setting out to break the men’s 1 mile Bomb-Suit World Record! The current record has been held by Mark Gibbs of the UK at a blistering fast time of 7:24.21. He has held this record since 2017.

In 2019, I attempted to break this record; however, wasn’t successful. Before the event, I “Planned my dive”, but when the race gun went off, I took off in a sprint and completely forgot all about my plan that I have “dove” in my head a thousand times. “Plan your dive, dive your plan”. My pace at the 1/2 mile was around 6 mins and my heart rate pegged and I was about to pass out, so I had to walk. Very humbling experience and also a HUGE lesson learned.

This year, I will have a pacer and training has been going extremely well. We are raising money for Get Head Strong and with proceeds from every purchase of the #TeamSean shirt will go directly to Get Head Strong.

Show support by purchasing his shirt with the discount code “SEAN“. www.militarymuscleinc.com/collections/military-families-program/products/military-families-program-team-sean-tee

Spirit of Blue Awards Tourniquet Grant to Oceanside Police Department

Sunday, March 14th, 2021

OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA – March 10, 2021 – The Spirit of Blue Foundation announced that it has awarded a Safety Equipment Grant to the Oceanside Police Department (OPD) to outfit their entire force of officers with lifesaving tourniquets inside of rugged carrying pouches. The OPD uniform policy was amended to include mandatory wear of the North American Rescue Gen7 C-A-T Tourniquet inside of a Blue Force Gear Tourniquet NOW! Pouch as part of its official uniform. The grant was funded in large part by a strategic partnership with Law Enforcement United, along with contributions collected by the Oceanside Police Officers’ Association through a GoFundMe campaign, and is valued at $17,588.

“We are very grateful for Spirit of Blue’s generosity. In the past, individual officers have purchased their own tourniquets and put them to use when providing aide to injured members of the public. With Spirit of Blue’s very generous donation, all officers are now positioned to aid one another and our community, should the need arise,” commented Capt. Fred Armijo, Interim Chief of Police for the Oceanside Police Department. “We are also very grateful for the efforts of Oceanside Firefighter-Paramedic Bryan Howell for spear-heading this effort.”

Firefighter-Paramedic Bryan Howell of the Oceanside Fire Department had originally launched the effort to equip OPD officers with tourniquets. He often supports the OPD SWAT Team as a medic and recognized that officers lacked this lifesaving tool. He created a GoFundMe page, in collaboration with the Oceanside Police Officers’ Association, and began taking donations in from members of the community. Spirit of Blue became aware of the campaign and offered to cover the balance of funds required in order to get the tourniquets purchased.

Tourniquets have proven to be incredibly effective in stemming blood flow to an injured extremity, and their use has vastly improved the survivability of soldiers in combat over the last two decades. That learning overseas is now being leveraged to save injured law enforcement officers here at home. When only precious minutes exist to treat such an injury, tourniquets are able to be applied individually or on a fellow officer to prevent excessive blood loss until that individual can be placed into medical care. As a secondary benefit, officers who carry a tourniquet are also able to use them to rescue a member of the community who may have experienced a similar type of injury. Spirit of Blue Foundation will replace any tourniquet that is used in the line of duty for the duration of an officer’s career so that no officer who uses their tourniquet will have to go without one in the future.

To date, Spirit of Blue has granted 4,420 tourniquets nationwide which have resulted in 14 documented saves – 13 of community members by officers with granted equipment and one save of a Kentucky State Trooper which came in June of 2019.

“This is a great department,” stated Dale Stockton, Spirit of Blue Board Chairman. “They were very appreciative and I know these tourniquets will go a long way towards enhancing safety for their officers and community members.”

The lead sponsor for the grant was Law Enforcement United (LEU), who has supported Spirit of Blue with over $382,000 in safety grant funding since 2015. LEU is an organization of active and retired police officers who honor fallen officers and raise funds to assist charitable organizations that serve the law enforcement community. Each year LEU members ride 250 miles or more into Washington, DC to participate in National Police Week events and carry flags in honor of fallen officers which are given to the surviving family members upon their arrival. Since its founding in 2009, LEU has raised over $7,250,000 for law enforcement causes.

Other sponsors include the Ford Fund and Sportsmen Organized for Law Enforcement, along with assistance from North American Rescue and Blue Force Gear who offered special pricing on the equipment.

On average, 150 officers are lost in the line of duty each year, but losses have increased dramatically due to COVID-19, reaching 354 last year. The leading cause of death (other than disease) was automobile related with 47, while firearm deaths followed closely at 45 in 2020. The reality of these statistics, and the increasing number of underfunded law enforcement agencies across the country, fuel the Spirit of Blue safety grant initiative.

The Spirit of Blue Foundation actively encourages the public at large to honor and appreciate law enforcement officers who serve and protect our communities. By supporting the Spirit of Blue Foundation, the public can make an impact in the lives of law enforcement officers every day. Federal Ammunition’s Support of Injured Veterans Approaches $250,000

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021

ANOKA, Minnesota – February 3, 2021 – Federal Ammunition is committed to empowering our nation’s injured veterans. Since 2011, Federal Ammunition has supported Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and the nonprofit’s free programs and services with an annual contribution to the Minnesota Wounded Warrior Charity Golf event. To date, the total contribution is just shy of $248,000 dollars.

Wounded veterans face significant challenges when they return to civilian life, and through the generous support of donors and corporate partners, WWP provides support during their recoveries, wherever they are in that journey.

“I’m proud of this program,” said Rick Stoeckel, Federal Ammunition’s Shotshell Product Director. “When our wounded heroes return, the needs are great and Federal is proud to assist in any way that we can, and the consumers have responded by purchasing the product that supports Wounded Warrior Project in our backyard of Minnesota and throughout the United States.”

Through our financial contribution, Federal Ammunition is directly supporting the programs and services that give warriors access to independence, mental and physical health, career counseling, peer support and connections to other veterans, and family support—free of charge.

Even the most challenging targets are no match for consistent, hard-hitting Federal Top Gun target loads. High-quality lead shot produces even patterns that crush clays. These loads also feature consistent, reliable Federal primer; an eight-segment crimp; and an unique wad column for consistent patterns.

Federal ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Federal. For more information on all products from Federal or to shop online, visit www.federalpremium.com.
