Honor and Celebrate Veterans with Pilot Company’s Round-Up for Wreaths Across America and Free Breakfast for Veterans Day

KNOXVILLE, TN. (October 22, 2020) – In recognition and appreciation of all who served, Pilot Company announced today an in-store round-up fundraiser benefiting Wreaths Across America through the end of the year. The funds raised will support Wreaths Across America’s goal to place more than 2.2 million wreaths in all 50 states to remember and honor fallen soldiers during the holidays. In celebration of Veterans Day, from Nov. 9-15, the company will offer all veterans one free breakfast combo, valid at participating U.S. Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers.

Task Force Dagger is Now Doing Business as Task Force Dagger Special Operations Foundation

As of October 16, 2020, Task Force Dagger Foundation is doing business as Task Force Dagger Special Operations Foundation. The decision to update the name of the organization to include Special Operations was made to reinforce the commitment to the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community. Since 2009, Task Force Dagger Foundation has been a reliable resource for SOCOM and has provided more than $6.5 million in support to 3,600 families. The organization will continue to provide assistance to wounded, ill and injured SOF service members and their families through its three core programs: Immediate Needs, Rehabilitative Adaptive Events and the TFDSOF Health Initiatives. The purpose of this event is to bring the competitive shooting world together with current and past military members and their families to Remember, Honor, and Memorialize ten fallen heroes in the spirit of competitive shooting. All proceeds go directly to the families of the fallen soldiers honored at the competition.

Competitors can expect a mix of traditional 3-gun style stages and non-traditional types of stages from classic “run and gun” to shooting from a moving vehicle or a parachute harness, and clearing obstacles.  This competition will expose competitors to situations they have never been placed in before, while at the same time honoring those who have sacrificed everything for our country.

Wreaths Across America to Dedicate the Colonel Roger Donlon Vietnam War ‘Welcome Home’ Room at its History & Hospitality House in Maine

Col. Donlon, United States Army Special Forces (Retired), was the first recipient of the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War

COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine – Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 – On Saturday, Oct. 3, Wreaths Across America (WAA) will dedicate the Colonel Roger Donlon Vietnam War ‘Welcome Home’ Room at its newly renovated History & Hospitably House located next door to the nonprofit’s national headquarters in Columbia Falls, Maine.

Colonel Donlon became the first American soldier to be awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his own life above and beyond the call of duty on 6 July 1964. Col. Donlon and his wife Norma have dedicated their lives to service of this country and the communities in which their family has been stationed throughout Roger’s 30-year military career.

“Norma and I are honored and proud to participate in the dedication of this special room.  As a Vietnam era Gold Star Wife, Norma is grateful to WAA for providing a place where families can gather when visiting to participate in the Remembrance Tree Program,” said Col. Donlon. “As Blue Star parents of three sons who have served our country, we encourage others to visit WAA and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Worcester Family and all those involved with the mission to Remember… Honor… Teach.”

The Vietnam War ‘Welcome Home’ Room is the latest of the WAA History & Hospitality House room projects to be completed by WAA since starting this endeavor nearly three years ago, and is the largest room in the house, chosen because of the space it offers for local Vietnam Veterans to gather and share stories with each other and the community.

“Several years ago, a land purchase was made to secure a right-of-way and access to the Wreaths Across America headquarters – a building donated to the organization by the community. This historic home built in 1820 was part of that purchase,” said Karen Worcester, executive director WAA. “We decided that it would make a great house for the many Gold and Blue Star families, and veterans that visit throughout the year. In keeping with our mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach, each room is being renovated and decorated to represent a period in United States history associated with a military conflict.”

As ambassadors for Wreaths Across America, and active participants in the program in their hometown of Leavenworth, KS, the Donlon’s have become very involved in the mission over the last several years. They first traveled to Maine in 2017 to help with the opening of the similarly named Vietnam ‘Welcome Home’ Exhibit at the National Wreaths Across America Museum. That same year, the couple also served as honorary co-grand marshals for the annual escort to Arlington National Cemetery. Most recently in 2018, they participated in the dedication of the Medal of Honor Remembrance Park, which is an 8-acre park located on the tip land where balsam is harvested to make veterans’ wreaths each year for placement on National Wreaths Across America Day.

“Not only is Roger an American hero, but he and Norma, are dear friends who have become part of the Wreaths Across America family,” added Worcester. “To have them be here together for this event, and give others the opportunity to learn from them as we have had the honor to do, is truly humbling.”

Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground Resumes On-site Programming with Two Veteran Transition Programs

Atlanta, Georgia, September 23, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Camp Southern Ground, a multi-missioned non-profit organization founded by GRAMMY Award-winning artist Zac Brown, has re-opened its doors to veterans for the first time since on-site programming was postponed last spring due to COVID-19.

If you have ever been to a Zac Brown Band concert, you’ve seen evidence of Zac Brown’s strong devotion to country. He believes it is our obligation to honor and care for the men and women who have fought for our country upon their return home. With the spread of COVID-19 and the ensuing social distancing restrictions, reopening Camp Southern Ground to meet the needs of these Warriors has been of the utmost importance. Social isolation and loneliness increase the risk of mental health issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide. While this has been a challenge for everyone, it has hit veterans especially hard and they need support more than ever.

Warrior Week, their signature 12-month workforce and wellness program, begins with a high-touch week at Camp. Shelane’s Run – A Virtual Event 17-31 Oct 2020 to Raise Awareness and Funds for Maternal Mental Health

The mission of Shelane’s Run is to spread awareness, promote programs that offer postpartum support and resources, and to encourage women and their families to reach out for help. The goal is to establish and offer grants to families that may not be able to afford the treatment they truly need and deserve.

Shelane was a Fairfax County Detective and her husband is FFX PD as well. She tragically ended her life in June 2015 while suffering postpartum depression following a miscarriage. Shelane’s friends and family created a 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1K Fun Run in her honor to memorialize her love and commitment to her family, community, and running. Shelane’s Run is the ONLY road race in Virginia focused on maternal mental health.

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are the most common complication for pregnant and postpartum women. PMADs do not discriminate and now, as we’re in the midst of isolation and higher levels of stress, we’re seeing more women reach out, needing help. This is where industry can lend a hand.

They are looking for sponsors to help us maximize how we are able to help so many deserving women. To give you an idea, this is what your money could help them do:

$5,000 – Give 1 woman a stay at a treatment facility

$2,500 – Allows 25 women several emergency therapy sessions

$1,000 – Allows many women to breathe, knowing some daily expenses are being looked after (such as food for her family, diapers, a hospital bill, etc.)

This money pays for transportation to and from counseling sessions, doctors appointments, the chance to go to the grocery store to pick up food for her children… Every single dollar is stretched to the maximum so that they are able to help as many women across the state of Virginia as possible.

Mental health resources are a luxury, and they shouldn’t be.
