Modern Classic Made for the Mountain and Knit with Premium Merino Yarns

Prometheus Design Werx introduces their Guide Half Zip Sweater for Fall/Winter 2022. Inspired by classic alpinist and mountaineering guide sweaters, this style has been updated with soft, yet hearty, premium merino yarns and expertly knit in a substantial weight with a 2×2 rib. Other details include a reverse coil YKK half front zipper for easy core venting, 4-way stretch nylon twill fabric reinforcements on the shoulders and elbows, turnback type cuffs with thumbholes and zips up to a high neck height. To bring this highest caliber performance sweater to market, PDW partnered up with an Italian knitting mill that has been making extra fine knitwear for generations. With the rugged Dolomites as their backyard, this factory knows a thing of two about crafting world class sweaters for expert alpinists, mountaineers, and skiers.

The Guide Half Zip Sweater is a part of Prometheus Design Werx’s PRO-Line of technical apparel. Available in Charcoal Heather Gray with Black accents.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“Following up to last year’s CWO Sweater, the Guide Half Zip is directly inspired by classic alpinist and mountaineering guide sweaters before the age of polyester fleece. While the originals were also made with wool, they used standard yarns and were simply not nearly as comfortable as ours. We used extra fine, Italian merino yarns in 18.5 microns, which is soft yet rugged, insulates when damp/wet, no melt and no drip. Like the CWO we used over 2lbs of this premium yarn per sweater for a substantial weight to keep the user warm in cold weather conditions. From there it was refining and updating the additional details that went into this sweater. We used a reverse coil nylon YKK zipper, 4-way stretch nylon twill fabric reinforcements on the shoulders and elbows that would move as the sweater would move, and included turnback cuffs with thumbholes. The Guide Sweater is a style we created using uncompromising materials and old world craftsmanship, upgraded in meaningful ways, and inherently possesses the look of classic cold weather mountaineering wear. As in all of our apparel styles, it is the attention to details, premium materials, functional design considerations, and excellent quality of make that goes into everything we produce. This sweater is for those who set their sights for themselves and what they use to a higher standard.”

The Guide Half Zip Sweater is available now for purchase at $229.00 via their website, prometheusdesignwerx.com.

Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket is Newest Offering from UF PRO; High-Performance Tactical Outerwear Keeps Users Better Focused in Brutally Cold Weather

Wednesday, November 9th, 2022

KOMENDA, SLOVENIA (03 NOVEMBER 2022)—UF PRO today announced the debut of its latest tactical garment innovation: the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket. This addition to the company’s popular range of clothing for military and law-enforcement personnel is designed to keep wearers more comfortable in the harshest of winter conditions so that they can better maintain their mission focus and performance edge, UF PRO said.

“Challenges faced by police and armed-forces units when they go out in numbing cold weather include loss of mental concentration and—if they’ve bundled up in a conventional winter jacket—overheating during times of heavy exertion,” said Armin Wagner, UF PRO head of development. “The Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket is the solution for those challenges. It keeps users warm and dry so they can stay sharp-minded throughout the mission. And because of its hybrid material design, they’re not likely to overheat.”

Wagner added that the new jacket also addresses several other issues of concern to military and law-enforcement personnel.

“Conventional winter jackets make you feel colder when the garments become wet from snow or freezing rain,” he explained. “That doesn’t happen with the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket. Its 100-percent nylon face fabric with a breathable PU membrane is windproof and highly water-repellent. Additionally, our proprietary detachable air/pac® system in the shoulders and back prevents the formation of inside-the-garment thermal bridges that otherwise would allow cold to penetrate to your skin—and it works even if it does happen to get wet, which is hard to do in part because we’ve used 80g G-LOFT® thermal insulation material throughout the jacket’s sleeves to wick away and manage body-generated vapor or moisture that might contribute to feeling cold.”

Wagner cited another shortcoming of conventional winter jackets: their bulkiness.

“Bulk impedes free movement,” he said. “If you’re wearing a bulky jacket, you lose agility, which in turn degrades your mission performance. Not so with the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket. Its hybrid design results in a garment that facilitates free movement.”

The Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket also eliminates the need to switch between light and heavy jackets as the weather changes, Wagner indicated.

“Basically, this is pretty much the only jacket you need to carry around in your backpack, regardless of the outdoor conditions of the moment or the activity you’re going to be engaging in,” he said. “Because the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket is well-suited to many different conditions and situations, your backpack will be lighter or have room for other gear you might need to successfully carry out your mission.”

In a similar vein, Wagner noted that the new jacket’s air/pac® system helps make it easier to tote backpacks or heavy plate carriers.

“The air/pac® system takes the weight off your shoulders and upper back,” he said. “This helps you conserve your strength for more important things. It also serves to increase your overall comfort, which, again, contributes to letting you stay focused on the mission.”

According to UF PRO, the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket’s key features include:

Noise-quelling, two-layer laminated nylon outer fabric to support stealth-mode ops

High-performance thermal-insulated COCONA® Merino wool sleeves

COCONA® 37.5™ fleece torso

Dual-function COCONA® fleece-and-mesh Kangaroo pocket

schoeller®-dynamic stretch cuffs

Waterproof hood with integrated Hood/Harness® system

Breathable, abrasion-resistant 3D mesh

YKK®? zippers

Upper-arm pocket

UF PRO said the Delta AcE Plus Gen.3 Winter Jacket will be available in Brown Grey, Navy Blue, Black, Steel Grey, and MultiCam®.

Canadian Department of National Defence Awards Logistik Unicorp Contract to Supply Operational Clothing and Footwear to the Canadian Armed Forces

Friday, October 21st, 2022

Minister Anand announces investment of up to $3.7 billion to supply operational clothing and footwear to the Canadian Armed Forces

October 20, 2022 – Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Today, the Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand, announced that Logistik Unicorp based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, has been awarded a contract to provide operational clothing and footwear to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). This contract, valued at up to $3.7 billion over 20 years, will support over 3000 jobs in Canada’s clothing, footwear and textile industries.

This investment will deliver approximately 1,222 different items of clothing and footwear worn by CAF members during their deployments, including:

• combat uniforms using Canadian Disruptive Pattern (CADPAT) camouflage,

• badges and insignias,

• footwear including combat boots, arid/hot weather boots, and mukluks,

• winter gear such as parkas, headwear and hand wear,

• soldiers’ personal equipment, such as sleeping bags and day packs.

This contract will deliver supplies for more than 160,000 people, including Regular and Reserve Force members, Canadian Rangers, Junior Rangers, search and rescue technicians, firefighters and Cadets. This contract also contains provisions to enable the ad hoc procurement of equipment required for unexpected deployment operations – such as the immediate supply of Personal Protective Equipment during critical emergencies.

Today’s Operational Clothing and Footwear Consolidated Contract (OCFC2) represents a new approach to supplying the operational gear that the CAF needs to succeed on domestic and international operations. Once the contract is fully implemented, members will be able to order items online and have orders shipped to their door, while also providing the CAF with the ability to continue distributing uniforms directly to units. This new approach will deliver better resource and inventory management for the CAF, improve item availability, and provide better value for taxpayers.

This project will deliver concrete economic benefits to Quebecers and all Canadians. Logistik Unicorp will invest in research and development and skills training in the textile, apparel and footwear sectors, which will generate additional jobs and export opportunities. Logistik Unicorp must also conform to mandatory Canadian content requirements by ensuring that the majority of manufacturing of clothing and footwear items is done in Canada.

The Government of Canada is committed to providing the CAF with the equipment and tools that they need to serve Canada domestically and internationally.

“Today’s investment will support thousands of well-paying jobs for Canadian workers, and deliver modern, cutting-edge equipment for the members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Canadian Armed Forces uniform is a source of great pride for Canadians at home and abroad, and this new contract with Logistik Unicorp will ensure that our members have the equipment they need, when they need it to fulfill the duties that we ask of them. I look forward to seeing the results of today’s investment, which is great news for Quebecers and all Canadians.”

– The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence

Quick facts

• Currently, operational clothing and footwear items are being procured through multiple individual contracts. By combining the various contracts into one, we will achieve greater efficiency and availability of items the CAF needs and better value for taxpayers.

• This contract is the result of a competitive process and the winning bidder is qualified and capable of delivering a managed clothing solution to the CAF.

• Delivery of items to clothing stores will commence during the second year of the contract, and individual online ordering capability is targeted to be implemented during the third year.

• This contract also incentivizes the contractor to include Indigenous businesses as part of its supply chain.

• The Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy, was applied to the OCFC2 request for proposal requirements to leverage economic benefits for Canada equal to the value of the logistics services component of the contract. As a result, the contract will ensure long-term, sustainable support for the Canadian apparel, textile and footwear sectors.

• Logistik Unicorp has experience in ensuring that Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) considerations are incorporated. Procured items will meet the requirements of the diverse CAF population with a faster turnaround time.
