SOF Week 23 – Crye Precision G4 Aviation Uniforms

Monday, May 15th, 2023

Although Crye Precision‘s new G4 Aviation Uniforms were unveiled during SHOT Show, they’ve been working on them for awhile. In fact, they’ve already started delivering them to the SOF aviation unit they developed them for. Like with all things Crye, once other units saw them, they had to have them as well meaning these are becoming quite popular.

Since the uniform is intended to be worn for flight duties, it’s made from the same FR Commando Twill used in the FR G4 uniforms.

While outwardly looking like the G4 uniforms they are based on, you’ll find some aviation unique features like dual entry shoulder pockets, center front zipper and loop placement to accommodate ID. The pants also have a double seat, oversized patch pocket on the calf, zipper pulls, vertical zippered entry on thigh pockets, and a multi-tool pocket.

The G4 Aviation Uniform is offered in both Combat and Field cuts in male and female fits, in MultiCam, Black, and Ranger Green.

Born Primitive – Op Top Long Sleeve Light

Sunday, May 7th, 2023

I only recently learned about Born Primitive during Warrior West and their upcoming tactical line. So it was much to my surprise to have this show up in my Instagram feed.

Looking slightly reminiscent of a combat shirt design that is no longer available from another brand, this shirt is made from a 90% Polyester, 10% Spandex blend. It’s nice to see something available again.

It incorporates zippered sleeve pockets with Velcro patches along with a shawl collar to protect the neck while wearing gear.

Also offered in a short sleeve model.

Offered in Jungle Green and Desert Tan in sizes Small – 3 XLarge.

Arc’teryx Finally Made That Recce Hat, Sort Of

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023

Back in 2015 Arc’teryx LEAF teased us with he promise of the perfect field hat, a short-brimmed boonie with all of the bells and whistles they dubbed the Recce Hat.

Made from 50/50 NYCO, it never went into production. Only a few samples were made and they were a very small size.

But it had everything we wanted including a cinch strap so it wouldn’t fall off in the bush, slots for scrim or natural camouflage and a pocket at the crown made from hi-viz Orange for use in signaling.

I just picked up the Cranbrook Hat from Arc’teryx and while it’s not the Recce Hat we were promised, it certainly shares some DNA.

It retains the unique ventilation system of the Recce as well as the cinch strap and crown pocket but this time it’s white.

Be advised, the brim wider than the original and the fabric is a stretchy Softshell material, but it is treated with antimicrobial.

Overall, I like it, so far. We’ll see how this fabric feels in this summer’s Florida heat.

Offered in S/M and L/XL in Black and Forage (seen here). Forage is kind of an Alpha Green shade.
