LALO Tactical Issues Statement Regarding Status Of Former Founder Nathaniel ‘Lalo’ Roberti

Update: We understand Lalo turned himself in this morning.

As you may have heard, former Navy SEAL Nathaniel ‘Lalo’ Roberti is currently wanted by the Long Beach, New York Police Department for a variety of alleged crimes. After his arrest and release, he failed to appear before the court. As he was a founder of Lalo Tactical and the company is named after him, I spoke with the company. They offered me this statement.

LALO Tactical expresses sympathies, expects speedy apprehension of wanted former founder

San Diego, Ca. (June 7, 2016) – LALO LLC, dba LALO Tactical, a San Diego, California footwear company, wishes to express its sympathies for the victim(s) of the crimes allegedly committed by former LALO Tactical founder, Nathaniel Roberti, who is currently wanted by law enforcement across the country. Mr. Roberti was one of the original five founders of LALO Tactical, but parted ways with the company in early 2014, and has not had a role with, nor been connected with the entity since his departure.

The recent warrant issued for Roberti’s arrest came to the attention of the LALO Tactical management team after being directly contacted by the Long Beach, New York Police Department.

The team at LALO Tactical was discouraged to hear of the recent developments with Mr. Roberti, and would like to emphasize their full support and cooperation with the authorities in this matter.

Blade Show – Spartan Blades / Harsey Folder Wins American Made Knife of the Year

Cngratulations to our friends at Spartan Blades along with Bill Harsey for their folding knife being selected as Blade Magazine’s American Made Knife of the Year!

Here you can see Mark Carey, Bill Harsey and Curtis Iovito recieving their award.

The knife features a stainless S35VN 4.25″ inch blade along with dual titanium thumb lugs and phosphor bronze bushing for a smooth, ambidextrous opening. The frame lock design incorprates and internal lock bar stabilizer that prevents the lock bar from over traveling and the slabs are are titanium.

Caracal USA Expands To Boise

Caracal Opens U.S. Offices For North American Sales And Marketing Operations

BOISE, ID – Caracal today announced that it has established offices in Boise, Idaho for its North American sales, marketing and business operations in a move designed to better serve customers and position Caracal for long-term growth in the United States firearms industry. Caracal USA offices are located at 6051 West Corporal Lane in Boise, Idaho 83704. The facility will provide Caracal USA with 2,679 square feet of combined office and warehouse space.

President of Caracal USA Christopher Sirois said “This is history in the making.” In January Caracal announced a partnership with Wilcox Industries in Newington, New Hampshire to manufacture Caracal products for the first time in the United States.

“The opening of Caracal USA offices in Idaho further signifies Caracal’s commitment to provide products and services to customers in the United States and demonstrates our considerable progress to date,” said Director of Marketing Jae Gillentine.

“With offices up and running at the New Hampshire manufacturing facility and now with the Boise, Idaho operations office, Caracal is centralized to both our materials and suppliers for manufacturing, and our customers for after sale care and support. We are pleased to be able to offer a true product support mechanism to the U.S. market,” said Caracal USA Vice President of Operations Jeffrey Spalding.

Gun related industries are thriving in Idaho, which reportedly hosts at least 180 firearms and ammunition makers. In 2015, USA Today ranked the City of Meridian, located just outside of Boise, as the best city in the United States to live in.

CMC Triggers Fires Back

Every trade show there’s industry gossip going around and the NRA Annual Meeting was no different. This time it was hate for CMC triggers and Mossberg for suing pretty much anyone that makes a drop in AR trigger. Drop in triggers are pre-assembled packages that can be inserted into an AR-style lower receiver and, after inserting the pins into place, offer an enhanced trigger over the Mil-SPEC model. The enhanced trigger and ease of use have made drop ins quite popular because they can be user installed with little to no difficulty.

As I understand it, the story goes that Mossberg bought the rights to the Chip McCormick (CMC, Chip McCormick, see where this is going?) patent, US 7,293,385 B2, a while back, and now Mossberg is on a tear, suing companies that they allege have violated their intellectual property rights. But, everyone is blaming CMC Triggers Corp.

According to a story on The Firearm Blog, these companies have been named in suits by Mossberg:

On Saturday evening, CMC Trigger Corp President Jack R Biegel issued this statement:

CMC Triggers is a Christian company, privately held and not owned by O.F. Mossberg or anyone else.

We pay our bills when they’re due including our royalty responsibility to O.F. Mossberg.

Fair competition in the market place is only fair if the playing field is level.

We proudly stand with them in their pursuit of what is right in regard to all the companies that infringe on their Patent.

Shame on anyone that would spin negatively O.F. Mossberg exercising their right under law to collect royalties.

I have to say, I agree with him. IP ownership is IP ownership and we support those that protect what is their’s. What make some uncomfortable about this situation is that Mossberg bought the patent rather than creating a design themselves. Regardless, I don’t see how that nullifies their ownership of the IP. Whether they came up with it on their own, bought it for manufacturing use, or just purchased it as an investment opportunity, it has value and they should be allowed to reap the rewards of that investment. Besides, most often in these cases, the IP owner is looking to ensure they are being paid for use of their IP. Most of these are settled before they even go to trial.

This will work itself, one way or another.
