Glock to Donate $100,000 to SOWF

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

GLOCK, Inc will make a $100,000 donation to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) during the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) held in Tampa, FL, this coming week, May 17-19. GLOCK, Inc Vice President Josh Dorsey will make the presentation to SOWF in the GLOCK exhibition booth (#404) on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

During the past six years, GLOCK will have donated $600,000 to SOWF, a non-profit organization providing college scholarships to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel killed in combat or training.

“GLOCK is proud to contribute to organizations such as SOWF, which play such a vital role in providing aide to the families of America’s fallen heroes,” said GLOCK Vice President Josh Dorsey. “GLOCK, Inc. has a long-standing tradition of supporting those that put themselves in harm’s way.”

Accepting the donation on behalf of SOWF will be Col John T. Carney Jr (USAF, Ret), the founding father of Air Force Special Tactics and current President of SOWF; Edie Rosenthal, Executive Director of SOWF, and former recipient of the SOWF Scholarship, Melinda Petrignani.

“GLOCK’s continued support to SOWF over the past six years demonstrates their commitment to supporting the families of wounded and fallen special operations personnel,” said Col John T. Carney Jr., SOWF President and CEO. “With more than 500 children in our program who have yet to reach college age, this gift helps us assure those widows or widowers that the foundation will be around when that young girl or boy reaches college age.”

Melinda is one of more than 800 children of fallen special operations personnel to whom SOWF has provided aide. Her father, Army Ranger PFC Michael Ruddess, was killed in a training accident in 1986 when she was only eight months old. Through the financial assistance from SOWF, Melinda graduated from DePaul University in 2008 with a degree in Business Administration. In September 2010, Melinda joined SOWF where she works with families and students as a Financial Aid Counselor.

GLOCK, Inc donates more than $500,000 each year to causes that benefit those who put themselves in harm’s way to defend the freedom that Americans enjoy.

Source One Distributors Donates $6,000 to FSU Veterans with Disabilities Business Program

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Source One Distributors, Inc and its founder Mark Llano, are supporting this year’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities program at Florida State University. The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) offers cutting edge, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines disabled as a result of their service supporting operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The intent of the EBV is to open the door to entrepreneurial opportunity and small business ownership by developing competencies in the many steps and activities associated with creating and sustaining an entrepreneurial venture. This is also achieved by helping veterans coordinate their efforts with programs and services for Veterans and others with disabilities.

At the end of this summer’s boot camp, each of the 22 participating veterans will present his or her individual business plan and entrepreneurial dream to a panel of judges during the second annual Source One Commercialization Plan Competition. The SOD sponsored program was very popular last year with participants and panel judges alike. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony and will be presented with cash prizes by Source One CEO and President Mark Llano that they may then use to pursue their business goals. SOD will award two Veterans with $1,500 first-place prizes, two with second-place prizes of $1,000, and two with third-place prizes of $500.

The money for the prizes was offered to the program by Source One Distributors and its President and CEO, Mark Llano. “It’s heartening to see high caliber schools in our state such as Florida State University supporting the men and women of the armed forces,” said Llano, a Marine Veteran himself. “Programs such as the EBV are essential to our nation’s economic growth and prosperity. We are honored to be involved again and look forward to seeing the results of the boot-camp.”

The 2011 Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities will take place in Tallahassee, FL June 9-16th. For more information please visit: www.cob.fsu.edu/ebv

Ares Armor is well known to SSD readers for their functionality, versatility and quality of their gear designed based on direct experience operating in the field. Now, it’s all available in A-TACS.

Ares Armor was founded by seven Marines, all with infantry combat experience with service both Iraq and Afghanistan. Combined, Ares ownership has more than 50 years of actual combat experience. Mission Ready Equipment Has Launched

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

One of the best kept “tactical” secrets in recent time has been the advent of Mission Ready Equipment. Born of 41 years of outdoor recreational expertise, MRE is an adaption of that knowledge base, applied to the tactical problem set. MRE’s sister company, Blue Ridge Mountain Sports is well known for their guide services and customer training programs as well as providing the best clothing and equipment to outdoor enthusiasts. They found that they were selling lots of these products to military and law enforcement customers and took a look at how they could help both supplier and user forge a better relationship. BRMS launched MRE to leverage their buying power to provide outdoor products tailored for the tactical customer as well even more specialized support for select customers.

For example, MRE is the exclusive distributor of Icebreaker Merino clothing in MRE Tan. Expect to see other quality outdoor products in tactical colors as their reach grows. To help spread the word about this new capability, MRE has selected former SEAL Kyle Defoor as its first Brand Ambassador. He is not only an skilled athlete and outdoorsman but also provides world class tactical training. In all of these roles he represents MRE and provides user feedback on developmental projects.
