Geartrade Launches New Consignment Model for UnNew Outdoor Gear

Tuesday, August 10th, 2021

Salt Lake City, UT (August 4, 2021) – After two decades serving as the go-to marketplace for outdoor enthusiasts to buy and sell used gear, Geartrade has even more in store: a new consignment selling option to make it even easier to sell used outdoor clothing and gear. Now, customers can simply send in their gear and Geartrade takes it from there. Designed to reduce seller friction and improve the purchase experience, Consignment makes it easier than ever for Outdoor Adventurists to reclaim their gear closet.

This continued investment in the experience of Geartrade.com is the result of Geartrade’s dedication to advancing a waste-free circular economy. Since 1999, our mission has been to keep people in the outdoors and gear out of landfills. And that mission is thriving—a vast community of users list, sell, and purchase their gear on our platform every day, keeping quality gear and apparel in use while giving their wallet a nice boost. Now, in response to customer input, we have added a consignment selling option alongside our traditional marketplace model to make the selling process as easy as possible.

Geartrade “Reclaim Your Gear Closet:” Consignment Selling

It’s streamlined and easy. Using this selling option, sellers simply send Geartrade their gear. They can use their own box and print out a label at home, or request a compostable bag or box—even a ski/snowboard-sized one.

Geartrade covers shipping. Shipping labels are free. Sellers pay nothing upfront.

It’s full service. Geartrade creates the description and photos, and handles customer service, marketing, and fulfillment. The only action sellers need to take is to drop the package off at any FedEx box, Walgreens, or Dollar General.

Robust pricing analytics included. Geartrade’s pricing analytics match twenty years of sales data with current market conditions and seasonality to find the right price.

Sellers get paid in cash, not gift cards. Sellers get paid in cash via PayPal, Venmo, or ACH.

Sell your gear, your way. Sellers can choose to sell their gear via the marketplace model or the new consignment model. They can adjust the pricing of their item. They can choose to donate or have their gear sent back to them if the item doesn’t sell.

In addition to the new consignment selling option Geartrade is excited to announce that we have committed to become Climate Neutral Certified. By partnering with Climate Neutral we will be able to leverage their vast expertise as we start the process of working toward carbon neutrality by first measuring and offsetting our 2020 carbon footprint and then working to reduce future emissions.

For added sustainable goodness, Geartrade has partnered with the noissue Eco-Packaging Alliance Program. Through our partnership with noissue we are able to provide our customers with fully compostable mailer bags and packing tape as we strive to eliminate plastic use. As a partner of the noissue Eco-Packaging Alliance, we have committed to plant trees through One Tree Planted for every order we place with noissue. To date, thanks to the Eco-Packaging Alliance, more than 13,000 trees have been planted worldwide.

Geartrade has always been the secret stash for people to find great deals on gear. Today, with more people considering the impact of their purchase decisions and with the re-commerce revolution picking up steam, Geartrade continues to lead the way on its path to being the go-to hub for the outdoor industry’s full circular economy.

HENSOLDT Demonstrates Airborne SIGINT capabilities

Sunday, August 1st, 2021

Taufkirchen, 27 July 2021 – Technologies and deployment modes of airborne signal intelligence (SIGINT) have been successfully demonstrated by sensor solution provider HENSOLDT during a test flight campaign at Hohn Air Base in Schleswig-Holstein.

The aim of the six test flights carried out together with GFD GmbH on a Learjet was to give representatives of the German customer an overview of available technologies and their growth potential. The findings are to be incorporated into the planning of future SIGINT capability on a wide variety of flying platforms.

In a so-called “expansion stage 1” of the demonstration, which was financed from company funds, the localisation, bearing, tracking and recording of signals was demonstrated, which located and tracked transmitters with frequencies in the communications range in scenarios of tactical signal reconnaissance. For the demonstration, a system concept was developed and realised that achieved a maximum of bearing accuracy and speed.

A later planned “expansion stage 2” of the demo campaign will highlight monitoring and pattern recognition procedures, possibly using AI techniques. Among other things, the findings are to be incorporated into the further development of the modular HENSOLDT product family KALÆTRON Integral® for the realisation of the future scalable ELINT reconnaissance container, which can be used on various platform types – including drones.

HENSOLDT HAS BEEN active in the electronic reconnaissance market for decades. The company has developed COMINT and ELINT sensors for the German Armed Forces and other NATO forces, among others, and integrates them into EW systems for the Air Force, Army and Navy.

Bushnell Recognizes Tom Beckstrand for Lifetime Achievement

Thursday, July 29th, 2021

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – July 28, 2021 – Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, has recognized Tom Beckstrand with the 2020 Bill McRae Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to optics and the outdoor industry. The rifle and optics editor for Guns & Ammo, Beckstrand is a dedicated writer and passionate shooting sports educator.

Born and raised in Wells, Nevada, Beckstrand grew up shooting bottles and cans with his father. His skill with a rifle would go on to serve him well in the military from West Point to Afghanistan and Iraq, where he led both Special Forces and counter-terrorism sniper teams.

After his military career, Beckstrand started writing for shooting publications, eventually landing at Guns & Ammo magazine. At the time, there was limited coverage of optics in books and publications, and Beckstrand stepped in to help fill the gap. An ever-evolving area of shooting sports technology, optics became a passion for Beckstrand. Known for his insatiable curiosity, Beckstrand sought to explore optics technology from every angle for his readers.

“Early on, Tom learned each company’s optic contacts and began putting himself in front of the engineers and product managers,” said Eric Poole, editor of Guns & Ammo. “He’d show up to an optics manufacturer with questions prepared and write down answers. Along the way, he immersed himself in the science behind the technology, always wanting to show how and why the features or products work the way they do.”

Beckstrand uses his own personal shooting experiences to inform his writing as well. In 2009, he started competing in Precision Rifle Series (PRS) matches, two-gun matches and precision gas-gun matches.

“At some PRS matches, Tom noted it was hard to see at a distance when it was overcast or rainy and when the target was a piece of shot-up steel inside a woodline,” said Poole. “Most scopes are great when the sun is shining, but Tom started paying attention to who was hitting and who wasn’t when targets were in the shadows. He made note of the optics each were using, and along his journey as a writer, he started tracking and including light-transmission tests in his evaluations. That level of detail in his writing goes above and beyond.”

The Bill McRae Lifetime Achievement Award was established by Bushnell to honor the legendary writer and photojournalist Bill McRae for his vast contributions to the optics and outdoor industry throughout his 50-year career. Introduced in 2011, the annual award was created to recognize McRae and the other journalists who have made a profound impact in the industry.

“This award has honored some of the best shooting and optics writers in the industry, and Tom’s work and dedication has built on that tradition,” said Matt Rice, senior media relations manager for Bushnell. “Not only has Tom educated millions of hunters and shooters through his writing, but he has left his mark on the industry as a whole.”

Previous winners have included Ron Spomer, John Barsness, Wayne van Zwoll, David Petzal, Andrew McKean, Bob Robb, Bryce Towsley and Richard Mann.
