US Army Selects LaserMax Defense Pistol Enhancer as Pistol Aiming Light

Monday, January 28th, 2019

Last fall, the US Army’s Product Manager, Soldier Precision Targeting Devices (PdM SPTD) issued a requirement for a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Pistol Aiming Light (PAiL) as a replacement for the AN/PEQ-14 and for use with the new Modular Handgun System.

PAiL must mount to the integrated rail on MHS and offer a white light and Infrared (IR) capability Because the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) determined that a visible pointer is currently not required PAiL will provide the user with greatly increased P (h) when using Night Vision Goggles (NVG). The additional white light must provide visual recognition in dark or night time applications.

Originally referred to as Multifunction Aiming Light or MFAL, during requirement definition, PdM SPTD took a look at Streamlight TLR-8 and the LaserMax Defense Pistol Enhancer.

Just prior to SHOT Show, LaserMax Defense was informed that the Army had selected their solution, the Pistol Enhancer as the new PAiL.

The switches are designed to be operated while wearing gloves and both the white light and IR illuminator (while using gen III Night Vision Devices) are designed to provide positive weapons ID at 40m.

Capabilities:

WHITE LIGHT: 175 lumens (typical) of white light
IR ILLUMINATOR: 175 mW (typical) of 850nm illumination
IR LASER: 850nm 0.7 mW max (class1) eye safe aiming laser

Length: < 2.8″
Height: < 1.4″ (not below trigger guard)
Width: < 1.5″
Weight: 2.6 ounces with battery

The Pistol Enhancer offers two hours of continuous use with a single CR-123 battery, which can be changed without removing the device from the weapon.

SHOT Show 19 – Hel-Star 6 Helmet-Mounted Light LE Model from Core Survival

Friday, January 25th, 2019

Core Survival has introduced a new variant of the Hel-Star 6 Helmet-Mounted Light for LE use. This variant puts the functionality most requested by LE users into one light.

It offers red or green flash, dim IR flash and IR steady. While the other features are pretty standard, the dim IR offers enough light for team members to see one another but it’s low enough light that unless it’s in direct view of an IR camera, like those on many homes, the flash won’t be seen.

It’s still built to the same environmental standard as other Hel-Star 6 lights.

Fountain Valley, CA—SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of the world’s finest — and most innovative —illumination tools and tactical products, is proud to announce the new SureFire Stiletto Pro!

More powerful than the standard Stiletto, the Stiletto Pro is a high-output flashlight with a slim profile that fits comfortably in any pocket, and can be drawn and activated with ease. Optimized by SureFire’s proprietary MaxVision Beam® reflector, the Stiletto Pro’s 1,000 lumens of smooth, well-rounded light in high-output mode are easily accessed by the body’s primary switch or tactical tail switch; the latter also activates an optional high-frequency strobe that is useful for blinding an attacker. A rechargeable lithium polymer battery and included MICRO-USB cable charger make it easy to keep the Stiletto Pro powered up, and its Melonite-coated, reversible heavy-duty spring steel pocket clip keeps the light secure and accessible whether you prefer to store it with the bezel up or down.

SHOT Show 19 – SureFire Update

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019

Here are a few updates for you from SureFire.

First off, they’ve introduced a Titanium version of the popular SOCOM300 Suppressor.

It was developed for use with 300 WM and 300 PRC bolt-action rifled, but many are using it as an all around Suppressor, with 7.62, .308. .300 and even 5.56/.223.

Next up is the SF Ryder 9-Ti2. It features a Titanium tube and stainless steel baffles. While it’s slightly heavier than the original version, design tweaks make it more reliable when get out towards 1000 rounds without cleaning.

SureFire is offering an all IR version of the XC2. The XC2-A-IRC offers up to 4 hours of IR Laser and/or light.

But the biggest thing I’ve been asked about is whether there’s a holster compatible with the new XVL2 light and laser combo.

Yes, there is. SureFire worked with Safariland Group who created a version of the 6360 Holster for a Glock 19/23 equipped with a XLV2.

Products will begin rolling out soon from www.surefire.com.
