Gerber Cortex Flashlights

Friday, November 22nd, 2013

Portland, Oregon (November 21, 2013) – Gerber, a recognized leader in military-grade tactical products, today introduced its new Cortex flashlights. Proudly built in the US and designed to meet the needs of the tactical professional, the Gerber Cortex series is comprised of three lights; the Cortex Flashlight, the Cortex Compact Flashlight and the Cortex Rechargeable Flashlight.

Tough, reliable and innovative, Cortex flashlights employ Gerber’s patented Omnivore technology, which allows them to operate on multiple power sources. The Cortex and Cortex Compact can operate on either AA or Lithium CR123 batteries, while the Cortex Rechargeable includes a Lithium Ion 18650 battery but will also accept two disposable Lithium CR123 batteries.

“As dynamic as the professionals they’re designed to serve our new Cortex lights combine top performance with superior flexibility,” said Andrew Gritzbaugh, Marketing Manager for Gerber. “Having this technology at your disposal in the field can make a difference in the outcome of an operation. We’re proud to bring this important feature to market in a highly competitive package that represents years of innovation.”

Cortex Flashlight

The Cortex Flashlight is built with adaptability in mind. Running on either three (3) Lithium CR123 batteries or two (2) AA batteries, the Cortex can utilize multiple power sources when having options is critical. With a maximum output level of 675 lumens (when running on three CR123 batteries), the Cortex provides a level of light useful for overwhelming an aggressor or identifying a threat. The Cortex also offers a strobe mode for tactical applications and a low output mode for administrative tasks.

Specs:
Length: 6.15 inches
Weight: 4.8 ounces
LED Type: Cree XML

Battery Performance:

CR123: High Mode Output – 675 lumens / 1.75 hours
Low Mode Output – 30 lumens / 40 hours

AA Alkaline: High Mode Output – 390 lumens / 1 hour
Low Mode Output – 28 lumens / 15 hours

Shipping: Late November

Cortex Compact

The Cortex Compact is designed to be a discreet, everyday carry light for tactical professionals and a backup light for police officers. Running on a single Lithium CR123 battery or AA battery, the Cortex Compact allows the operator to use whatever power source is available. When powered by a CR123, the Cortex Compact provides 125 lumens of output, enough light to momentarily blind an assailant’s night-adapted vision. The Cortex Compact also provides a strobe mode and a low-output mode for small tasks.

Specs:
Length: 4 inches
Weight: 2.12 ounces
LED Type: Cree XPG

Battery Performance:

CR123: High Output Mode – 125 lumens / 1.5 hours
Low Output Mode – 25 lumens / 9 hours

AA Alkaline: High Output Mode – 60 lumens/ 1.25 hours
Low Output Mode – 12 lumens/ 6 hours

Cortex Rechargeable

The Cortex Rechargeable flashlight offers all the advantages of the full size Cortex, with the added ability to recharge from an outlet or USB port. The Cortex Rechargeable runs on a lithium ion battery and recharges like a cell phone – simply plug the mini USB wall charger into the body of the light. Once charged, the LED will flash intermittently letting you know it’s ready for use. The Cortex Rechargeable also accepts disposable Lithium CR123 batteries for times when you don’t have access to power. Hit the tail cap switch to activate 500 lumens of blinding output; double tap to activate the strobe. Hit the barrel switch on the side of the light for the 40-lumen low-output mode.

Specs:
Length: 6.15 inches
Weight: 5 ounces
LED Type: Cree XML

Battery Performance

Rechargeable Lithium Ion:
High Output Mode – 500 lumens / 1 hour
Low Output Mode – 40 lumens / 12 hours

Low Output Mode – 45 lumens / 20 hours

SureFire Receives Ambrose Award From The National Defense Industrial Association

Friday, November 15th, 2013

SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high performance illumination tools, suppressors and tactical products, proudly announces that it has been presented the Ambrose Award from the National Defense Industrial Association. The Ambrose Award, as described by the NDIA, is established and presented periodically to recognize an Industrial Firm which, in the opinion of the Small Arms Committee Executive Board, has made outstanding contributions to the field of small arms systems.

“The Ambrose Award is named in honor of former Under Secretary of the Army, James R. Ambrose for his recognition of the value and contribution of Industry in meeting the needs of our National Defense. This prestigious award is being presented by the NDIA Small Arms Executive Board on November 12th, 2013, to SureFire, LLC for the contribution and commitment of their employees in support of the mission being performed by US Armed Forces,” said Brian Berger, NDIA Chairman.

The NDIA defines an outstanding contribution as characterized by exemplary commitment and contribution to the Armed Forces by delivering superior material that meets required operational capabilities and supports a high level of force readiness in the conduct of warfighting activities or homeland defense. Such contributions may be shown through a record of continual demonstration of emerging technologies, development of products and systems, establishment of enhanced production capabilities and integration of innovative weapons systems and supporting products and services required by the DoD and Allied countries.

“Our tireless commitment to innovation—spearheaded by our founder and president John Matthews, PhD—has led to the continuous creation of new game-changing products from our engineers, designers, and production professionals,” said Matthew Hemenez, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, who accepted the award on behalf of SureFire. “We do everything in our power to build truly best-in-class products because our mission is to help those who go into harm’s way prevail and come home safely—a mission that will never change.”

In 1979, SureFire pioneered the introduction of laser-aiming sights into the commercial market followed by the invention of the first handgun and shotgun weapon-mounted lights seven years later. The first tactical flashlight, one capable of overwhelming an aggressor’s night-adapted vision and operated via the tailcap, debuted in 1988 and since then SureFire has set the standard for illumination tools and weapon-mounted lights. Continued expansion of its product line, to include high-intensity white-light, IR weaponlights, sound suppressors, hearing protection, and a full line of tactical accessories guarantees SureFire’s commitment to the development of cutting-edge products to assist the warfighters and peacekeepers who go into harm’s way.

“I appreciate this honor and I accept it on behalf of everyone in the SureFire family that has worked tirelessly over the last 33 years, making this company what it is today. I’m humbled to be in such good company in the industry. Thank you to NDIA for recognizing what we do,” said SureFire founder/president, Dr. John Matthews.

SureFire 1000 Lumen P3X Fury Now Available

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

We first mentioned the new 1000 Lumen P3X Fury during our Modern Day marine coverage. Now, they are available for purchase.

P3X

Fountain Valley, CA — The P3X Fury—a higher-output, three-battery version of the P2X Fury—is a compact, ultra-high-output flashlight that produces 1000 lumens on its high setting. The P3X features a virtually indestructible LED and precision reflector that creates a smooth beam with plenty of reach and enough surround light to accommodate peripheral vision, making it a popular choice for tactical applications, outdoor use, or everyday carry.

“Lumens is the total light output of the light; that’s the size of the fist that is going to hit you,” said Don Alexander, director of Military Sales at SureFire. “Candela is the power behind that fist, how far that light can be projected. Depending on light conditions, the P3X will project light out past 200 yards away,” Alexander said. Due to the ultra-high output, the P3X is ideal for many types of scenarios that demand light at extended ranges.

The new P3X is available in two models: P3X Fury and the P3X Fury Tactical. The Fury Tactical is a single output, 1000 lumen model that features tactical type switching: press for momentary-on; twist for constant-on. The standard P3X is a dual output model that provides 1000 lumens on its high setting, and 15 lumens on low, and comes with a click-type switch: press for momentary-on low, click for constant-on low output. Return to off and press or click within two seconds for high output.

The P3X Fury models offer a solution for users that demand both higher output and longer runtime. The durable P3X delivers 2.25 hours of tactical-level light on its high setting, and up to 60 hours of runtime on low, with just three 123A lithium batteries. At a length of only 6.8 inches, and a weight of 7.2 ounces this pocket-sized searchlight doesn’t take up much room in a gear bag, or on a duty belt. These rugged lights are constructed of high-strength aerospace aluminum that has been Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized and O-ring sealed to protect against the elements. All models come standard in a black hard anodized finish. MSRP is $250.00 and is available through authorized SureFire dealers or by calling SureFire at 800-828-8809 or at http://www.surefire.com

Features and Benefits:

• 1,000 Lumens on high, 15 lumens on low
• Two models: Tactical (single output) and Standard (Dual Output)
• Precision reflector creates smooth, optimized beam
• Coated, tempered window resists impact and maximizes light output

Updated: EOTech to Discontinue Insight Branded Lights

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013

This email went out to dealers early this morning from EOTech:

Dear EOTech distributors and sales representatives:

This letter is to inform your company that EOTech is discontinuing the distribution of its line of Insight branded weapon lights. The discontinuation will include all models and sku’s, including the following family of lights: M3, M3X, M6, M6X, X2, X2L, WL1 and WMX200. The IFL (Integrated Fore-end Light) remains strongly positioned in its category and will continue unaffected by this announcement. (emphasis added) The effective date of this change will be January 1st, 2014 and all existing purchase orders in the system will be honored. We are giving notice of these product changes in order for your company to adjust its product purchasing records or to make any final lifetime purchases of the discontinued products that are still in supply.

We request that you carefully review these changes and notify your buyers to place your company’s final purchases for available discontinued products as soon as possible. Orders will continue to be accepted until the end of the calendar year but only while supplies last. Additionally, effective immediately, MAP restrictions will be lifted to assist you in the movement of current inventory.

Warranty and customer service inquiries on the product line will continue unchanged per the L-3 Warrior Systems/Insight contact information provided in the product literature.

The decision to exit this business was due to the industry trend in this product category for low cost, foreign made devices. As EOTech product always has, and will continue to be built in the USA, the decision was made to exit this business and focus on the core product line and on our operations here in the USA.

We appreciate your understanding and assistance in helping us help you minimize the impact of this product discontinuation on your company. We also thank you for your continued support and success of the EOTech product line.

UPDATE: They aren’t going away. Insight will continue to produce and sell these lights.
