Swedish firm coXa carry AB has developed a new integrated front suspension design that integrates the shoulder and waist straps into a single buckle hub. Growing up, inventor Claes Bergkvist was a Scout and took his backpacking seriously. As he grew up, he came upon this concept. After working with several international firms to develop the design (including Duraflex) he was granted a patent last year.

In addition to introducing a line of packs, they are also looking for licensees of this technology. Above and below you can see different design concepts for this ergonomic backpack carrying system. One distinct advantage is that it frees your arms up quite bit as well as the waist which may well transfer to increased mobility.

Crye Precision Modular Riggers Belt

Sunday, November 17th, 2013

20131117-140649.jpg

The MRB from Crye Precision is a bit different than the other war belts on the market. The idea was to lower bulk around the waist caused by the wear of belts one atop the next. Money important thing to note right from the outset is that the MRB is not padded and bulk is kept to a minimum.

20131117-154642.jpg

It’s a system that offers an inner layer that can be used as a very low profile stiffened pants belt called the LoopLock™. Any stiffness is provided by the innermost LoopLock™. The entire MRB, including the inner LoopLock™ are all cut on a bias to be more ergonomic when worn on the waist. Other components include a main load bearing belt called the Outer Belt and a sleeve referred to as the Outer Cover.

20131117-140558.jpg

The MRB’s LoopLock™ allows two configurations:
-Keep the inner LoopLock™ layer attached to belt for most secure and stable setup.
-Wear inner LoopLock™ layer as a separate low-profile pants belt for added versatility which means you can take your duty rig off and still hold your pants up. But, wearing the MRB this way means it may sit lower than you’d typically wear a full on padded or armored war belt.

20131117-140500.jpg

Additionally, the outer belt has a convenient side release buckle which can be simply replaced with virtually any first line belt for those looking for something different. However, this main load bearing belt has a really cool feature often found on backpack waist belts. The webbing doubles back though the dual adjust side release buckle and can be pulled forward to adjust fit meaning you’ll get a much better and tighter fit if that is what you are going for.

I’ve worn the MRB and like it. It’s not quite like anything else out there. There are a couple of slots on the side portions of the outer cover to access the main load bearing belt for load carriage options such as drop leg rigs and the sleeve itself boasts two rows of PALS fields on each side and to the rear. Additionally, the MRB can be combined with suspenders of needed. Of there’s anything that I’m not enamored of it’s the aluminum buckle on the LoopLock™. Don’t get me wrong, it works well but it can be a pain to thread the Velcro tab through that holds the belt together.

Available Small – XLarge in Black, Coyote, Ranger Green, and MultiCam.

FirstSpear’s Emergency Response Kit is a medical pouch that allows for quick access of individual medical components. The ERK is composed of two pieces: the body and insert. The insert is a fold out envelope that holds medical components via elastic retention bands and stores inside the body. The body features a deployment handle that pulls the insert out of the soft shell stretch pocket; it can be mounted to deploy either up or down. Maritime-resistant plastic snaps provide additional security to the activation handle so it won’t open when you least expect it. The ERK is designed to mount to MOLLE/PALS using FirstSpear’s propriatary 6/9 technology.

The Mystery Cinch

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

When the Mystery Conch first came out, we created a quick video to show you how it works.

But Mystery Ranch has done us ne better and produced a great video that not only shows how it works but also how to install it.

Mystery Ranch | Mystery Cinch from Mystery Ranch on Vimeo.

The Mystery Cinch was designed to improve the comfort of nearly any pack over body armor. Now issued to every Marine as part of their new pack system, the Mystery Cinch routes a pack’s shoulder straps out of the user’s armpits and effectively marries the pack straps to the user’s armor. You can shoulder a weapon easier, blood flow to hands increases and overall comfort and fatigue levels are improved. When you’re ready to jettison the pack, simply unsnapping and pulling the quick-release webbing immediately releases the pack straps. It works for everybody, not just Marines.

Beez Combat Systems – Triple AK Shingle

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

New from Beez Combat Systems, the BCS AK47 triple magazine shingle is designed to carry three 30 round AK47 magazines. The open top 3 mag AK47 shingle can be mounted to any PALS compatible vest or plate carrier. The shingle has some unique features not found on other AK shingles.

The back of the triple mag shingle has four rows of PALS webbing for attachment. The shingle can be attached with MALICE clips, Speed clips and other clip systems on the market.

20131030-163040.jpg

In order to to reduce weight, keep it low profile and provide a distinctly different shingle to the market, BCS angled the corners of both the top and bottom to give it a unique look. The AK mags fit in the shingle perfectly in both direction because of the curve of the mag.
The internal pouch provides additional storage for small items and increases the carrying capacity. The pouch is secured with 2” Velcro across the entire length of the pouch.
