BSA Selects Osprey to Provide Duffels to Jamboree Participants

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

20130207-103943.jpg

The Boy Scouts of America announced that 2013 Jamboree participants will be using this duffel from Osprey called the Osprey Transporter BSA. National Scout Jamborees are held every four years and this is the first at the new Summit Bechtel Reserve after 30 years at Fort AP Hill in Virginia. In addition to this new high adventure location, this Jamboree marks a departure from previous events. Beginning this year, tentage and other camp supplies will be provided by Bechtel so that local councils will not be required to acquire and transport equipment specifically for the Jamboree. In an effort to help control transportation costs and the amount of space each camper will use while at Jamboree, BSA is limiting each participant to the use of one of these issue duffel bags. But don’t worry, at 7015 cu in (115 liters), there’s plenty of room for a Scout’s clothing and gear. In addition to haul loops, the Transporter also incorporates stow able shoulder straps. These are awesome bags and I often use smaller version as a carry-on for short trips. No word yet if the BSA model will be available for purchase by those not attending the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. The Jamboree gear transport concept is excellent is and Osprey is a great partner for BSA.

ATS Tactical MOLLE Dump Pouch

Friday, February 1st, 2013

Manufactured from Duro Textile’s ultra light Litelok material, the ATS MOLLE Dump Pouch is sized to hold six spent M4 30-round mags. You can also enlist it for duty carrying shotgun shells or as a multipurpose utility pouch suitable for evidence (SSE) collection or other generic items.

ATS MOLLE dump pouch

Thanks to the Litelok which is about 30% lighter than 500D Cordura, the dump pouch tips the scales at just over 2.5 ounces. It uses shock cord and ITW/Nexus Toaster Cord Loc to adjust the size of the opening of the pouch and the 3″ webbing flap doubles as a lid or can be concealed completely within the bag as well as securing the pouch in its rolled up position. In its folded state, the ATS MOLLE Dump Pouch is only 3″ x 4″ x 1.75″ and can be attached to MOLLE or PALS webbing by means of the two patent pending L Strap modular attachment straps. There is also a grommet located on the bottom allows for quick drainage.

ATS offers the MOLLE Dump Pouch in MultiCam only. Like all of their products, the ATS MOLLE Dump Pouch is made in the USA of quality, mil-spec components and is covered by their lifetime warranty.

The top flap is designed to carry maps or other 8 1/2″ x 11″ documents in a zippered enclosure and also features a flip out velcro IFF panel for attaching flags, IR devices etc. Internally the Low-Vis E&R Bag is divided into one large pile velcro lined pocket and two small compartments with d-rings for securing essential equipment.

ATS Legion Cobra Belt

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

ATS-Legion-belt

The ATS Legion Cobra Belt uses the industry standard AustriAlpin Cobra buckle for both ease of use and incredible strength. The Cobra buckle is rated to 11kN, which is over 2470 pounds of force. In order to make use of that strength, they built the belt from Type 13 Mil Spec parachute-grade webbing, stitching it together with 69 pound nylon thread.

The belt is reinforced with a 4 inch long “W” stitch and has a forged parachute hardware-grade, 316 Stainless Steel Triangle Link for personal retention lanyard tie-ins. To increase the strength even more, they’ve added 5 lengthwise stitches, which also enhance the stiffness somewhat. The end of the belt has been rounded and sealed so the running end won’t snag.

The Legion Cobra Belt is offered in Coyote Brown with matching buckle, or in Ranger Green and Black, both with Black buckles. They’re Made in the USA! and covered by the ATS Gear lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

ATS Antidote Hydration Carrier

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

ATS-antidote-carrier

The Antidote reservoir from Camelbak is a 103 ounce (3 liter) tactical bladder designed specifically to fit the smaller footprint of the armor- or plate carrier. They achieved this by widening and flattening the reservoir. That makes the reservoir fit the carrier far better than a traditional design. A brand new reservoir requires a brand new carrier to fit its unique shape.

To keep the weight to a minimum, ATS Tactical developed the Antidote Hydration Carrier in 500D and Multicam Litelok. In 500D, the carrier weighs just 5 ounces, and the Litelok version (pictured) weighs about 3 ½ ounces without the reservoir. The face of the carrier features elastic shock cord to secure lightweight items like jackets and gloves. There is also a drain grommet in the bottom of the carrier and the face of the flap has a soft side (female) Velcro panel for placards or morale patches. The lid is held closed by 1 ½ inch Velcro, and there is a hanger tab in the top center to suspend the reservoir from.

The AHC is about 14 ½ inches long and 10 ¼ inches wide, and uses 6 channels and 6 rows of MOLLE space.

They offer the AHC in Coyote Brown, Ranger Green, and Multicam. Black and UCP are available as special order colors. As with all ATS brand gear, it’s made in the USA from Berry Compliant, top quality American materials with American labor and is covered by the ATS lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship.

ATS Tactical – 5.56 Split Front Chest Harness

Monday, January 28th, 2013

20130127-230240.jpg

ATS Tactical developed this new harness following the release of the ATS 7.62 SFCH. The 7.62 harness was designed by an SF friend of theirs and was made for a deploying unit, but the design worked so well it was modified into the 5.56 version seen here. The rig is constructed of 500D Cordura. Each pouch holds a single 30 round 5.56/.223 magazine. They are held in by their bungee retention system, with nylon pull tabs. Each side of the harness has a built in 9”x 7” map pocket. To the outside of each side of the rig there’s two channels and three rows of PALS webbing and each magazine pocket of the harness also has two channels and three rows of PALS on its face.

Each side of the harness is 10 inches by seven inches, and the harness is closed by two ITW/Nexus GhillieTEX one inch Fastex side release buckles. Overall width of the harness is about 22 ½ inches. To reduce weight, the waist belt has been redesigned to release only from the left side, and a webbing retainer has been added to secure the running end of the strap. The upper harness attachment points use the lighter ITW/Nexus Ladderloc and also use the webbing retainer. The shoulder straps have also been redesigned to accommodate the ATS MCH Hydration Harness or a smaller and lighter modular carrier such as the ATS 50 Ounce Hydration Carrier. The cross strap portion of the harness has a very lightweight 4 channel and 4 row grid of PALS webbing with a clever design that does away with the base material that PALS is usually sewn to, instead using a double row of webbing bar tacked to itself and box-X stitched to the harness.

The 5.56 SFCH is available in Multicam, Coyote Brown, Ranger Green and deepest darkest Black. It’s made in The USA from the finest quality Mil Spec, American produced materials and sewn by Americans. As with all ATS brand gear, it is covered by a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects in materials and workmanship.
