Blue Force Gear Updates Trauma Kit Now!

Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

The Blue Force Gear Trauma Kit NOW! (TKN) was first released in early 2009 as a solution to trauma kits that were too difficult to deploy, especially if only one hand is available. The TKN has gone through a number of changes over the years, with the most recent updates pertaining to weight and functional performance for the end user.

Starting with materials, the TKN is now constructed largely of a proprietary laminate called ULTRACOMP®. This high-tech laminate is made up of multiple layers of high abrasion Nylon and CORDURA® fabric bound together with space age elastomers and other compounds to form a nearly indestructible fabric that is still extremely lightweight in this configuration.

The flap face of the TKN now has a “Red Cross” cut-out with red backing so that the user can quickly choose whether they want a red reflective IR, or subdued backing to their trauma kit identifier. The flap also now has the BLIP™ detail in its pull tab. The Ball Loaded Index Point, or BLIP for short, is a feature now found on all Blue Force Gear lidded pouches. The BLIP was born on a freezing cold day at the range with rain coming in sideways at 32.5° Fahrenheit. It was there that Blue Force Gear realized that when fingers start to turn to flippers it’s very difficult to get a grasp on a flat piece of webbing as well as differentiate between different kinds of material to find a pull tab. The BLIP alleviates both those issues with a form that is both easy to grasp and impossible to miss.

The Trauma Kit NOW! is now available with an Advanced Individual Trauma Kit Refill built for Blue Force Gear by North American Rescue™. This refill contains the most advanced individual first aid items currently available and is focused around treating the “Big Three” of preventable combat death: extremity hemorrhage, airway obstruction and tension pneumothorax.

These products are currently in stock in all colors for individual or even larger unit-sized orders for immediate shipment.

Pelican Biothermal to Showcase Mobile Critical Care Blood Transport Containers Utilizing Golden Hour Technology at SOFIC

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

Pelican BioThermal and strategic partner Tribalco will showcase award-winning Golden Hour™ Technology at upcoming military trade shows

Pelican BioThermal, a global leader providing the broadest and most innovative range of temperature-controlled packaging solutions serving the life sciences industry, and strategic partner Tribalco, LLC, now offer a solution for military personnel looking to transport life-saving materials further on the battlefield, the Golden Hour™ Medic. Built from the same technology used in their award-winning Golden Hour™ Mobile container, the smaller-scale product can be carried on a person, allowing combat medics and other military medical personnel to transport blood products to locations vehicles may not be able to reach.

Pelican BioThermal’s Golden Hour™ Mobile container was developed, shortly after 9/11, to protect military troops’ lives in the battlefield in the harshest of environments and climates. In 2004 this container was the winner of the ‘Army’s Greatest Invention Award’. Today, Pelican BioThermal’s™ packaging solutions provide the most reliable, longest temperature control duration on the market — including 96, 120 or even 144 hours or more of thermal protection. The Golden Hour™ Medic offers the same thermal protection on a smaller and lighter scale.

“The Golden Hour™ Mobile container technology on a smaller scale allows troops to take life-saving materials far distances from home base, while still successfully keeping blood at the critical temperature,” said Pelican BioThermal Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Kevin Lawler. “Temperature-controlled packaging, while it’s our focus at Pelican BioThermal, is just one piece of a large puzzle, and that’s why the team at Tribalco is a great fit for us as strategic partners. They helped us define requirements for what’s really needed in the field, involving military field personnel for testing and design feedback. This partnership allows us to deliver a better solution to combat medics on the front lines.”

As a global provider of mission-critical information technology, integrated telecommunications, and survival system solutions, Tribalco provides mission-critical information technology, integrated telecommunications, and soldier survival solutions to defense, civilian government, and commercial customers around the world. As strategic partners, Pelican BioThermal and Tribalco attend military trade shows together to showcase current products and determine innovative enhancements to improve Golden Hour™ containers for their customers.

“The feedback we receive from the decision makers in the special operations medicine field is invaluable,” said Tribalco Director of Operations, Jeremy Catrone. “Attending shows like SOMSA and SOFIC provide the opportunity to get feedback from medical advisors and better define operational needs. We are then able to collaborate with Pelican BioThermal to develop specific products focused on one goal; saving the lives of our troops.”

Pelican BioThermal and Tribalco will showcase the Golden Hour™ Medic and Golden Hour™ Mobile at these upcoming military and special operations medicine trade shows:

-Special Operations Medical Association Scientific Assembly (SOMSA) May 23-26, 2016 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina
-Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) May 23–26, 2016 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida
-Trauma Hemostasis and Oxygenation Research (THOR) RDCR Symposium June 20-22, 2016 at the Solstrand Hotel in Os, Norway

It’s Spring (sort of), Time To Break Out The Zanfel

Thursday, April 14th, 2016

Spring means that plants are coming back and an increased chance of contact with poison ivy.

We first mentioned Zanfel Poison Ivy Wash from Zanfel Labs during Modern Day Marine 2011 when we found out that it is designed to allow an affected person to literally wash away urushiol oil which is the toxin contained in certain plants. This toxin irritates 85% of the population. The Zanfel wash can be used at anytime after contact and on any part of the body, including the face and genitals. This stuff really works. We’ve used it several times over the past few years and it offers relief within hours. Additionally, it can be used to wash clothing and bedding to help mitigate the effects of the rash.

Zanfel Labs is offering this graphic to help instruct people how to identify the plants that secrete urushoil thereby preventing irritations before they happen. We asked if we could share it and they agreed. Also, don’t forget, poison ivy oils can stay viable for up to 5 years. Clothing, gear and footwear, in particular laces retain these oils. According to Zanfel Lans, the best cure for this issue is to wash these items with simple dishwashing liquid.

Zanfel’s Skin Wash Poison Ivy Treatment 10 oz Tube has NSN 6501-01-611-2071.

Zanfel also offers a map. Hard copies of the poster above can be requested by contacting them.
