ADS Reveals Camo ExpertiseADS Tactical

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

ADS Inc never stops surprising us. Over time, we’ve come to know about their Ghostex program and their work with HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp on specialized camouflage patterns for Afghanistan. Most recently, they’ve teamed with Guy Cramer to win as spot as finalists in the US Army’s most ambitious camouflage improvement effort to date.

Now, they’ve launched a new section of their website dedicated to all of their camouflage programs. Not only will you see some better images of their US4CES-Delta patterns that we revealed here on SSD during SHOT Show, but they also reveal additional information on their Army-finalist Alpha family of patterns as well as some a few of the variants from the Ghostex Advanced Camouflage System.

Last, but certainly not least, ADS has been a prime supplier of critical clothing and equipment in the US Army’s Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP), commercially known as MultiCam. Both FREE and ECWCS Gen III are provided by ADS Inc and they have adopted both environmental clothing systems for issue in OCP.

ADS has informed me that they plan on adding to the camo section of the website as new information becomes available. In particular, we are looking forward to seeing additional Ghostex patterns as well as a glimpse of what their Army candidate patterns will look like on ACUs and OCIE. It is definitely worth taking a look at what they have going on.

It currently weighs 9.6 oz but should weigh in around 6 oz once the final version comes to market. For example, they are ditching the pocket and changing the zipper and seam tape.

Above, Officers display the array of uniforms. The two on the left and the spokesman wear the new MultiCam ACUs while the fourth Soldier wears the new British ensemble in MTP and the last Soldier in line sports the current Soldier 95 uniform in Woodland DPM.

According to the Bermuda Regiment, 2012’s Recruits, plus the Regiment’s Full Time Staff and Long Term soldiers will be issued MultiCam Combat trousers, shirts, jackets, rain suits, and Jungle Hats later this month. Starting in 2013, Bermuda will be in the UK MoD Supply chain meaning uniform supplies will be both reliable and 30% lower than current costs.

Hide/Dry from Arc’teryx LEAF – Debuting at SHOT Show

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Arc’teryx LEAF is the first to offer a technical outerwear line designed for military and law enforcement in GORE-TEX® fabric with Multicam® print, uniting the best available windproof waterproof/breathable technologies with the most versatile and adaptable pattern.

Durable GORE-TEX® fabric maximizes protection and comfort during prolonged exposure to harsh environments. The MultiCam® print is designed to reflect the surrounding environment. Disguising shape and volume by taking on the background tone, its non-blocked pattern also balances scale and contrast, even at close distances. Both of these properties work with a third optical principle, the brain’s tendency to blur a design into its background, to offer protection across a broad range of light, elevation, seasons and environments.

In the Hide/Dry series, exceptionally durable, weatherproof, GORE-TEX® MultiCam® is taped and laminated into high performance garments, making it a one kit solution to secure exposure in harsh, wet and varied environments.

Hide/Dry LEAF products for 2012 are the Alpha Jacket and Pant, Alpha Parka and Gryphon Halfshell™ and Pant. Hybrid garments combine GORE-TEX® fabric in MultiCam® print with breathable, armour-compatible Tweave® Durastretch® for comfort and temperature regulation under kit.

Hide/Dry enables operatives to do exactly that: hide and stay dry in severe environments.

See the new Hide/Dry line at SHOT Show in booth #10526 and at OR in booth #3018.

Quiet Loop Released In Time For SHOT Show

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Already in use on several issue military uniforms, Quiet Loop is being officially released just in time for SHOT Show. Take a look at this video to get an idea of what it’s all about.

Developed by Propel LLC, a woman owned small business which has bee instrumental in military textiles, Quiet Loop is already integrated into SOCOM’s Protective Combat Uniform Levels 9 and 6 in the AOR1, AOR2 and MultiCam patterns. Based on increasing demand, Propel has now expanded manufacturing capacity for new DOD and tactical customers. Quiet Loop was developed in close collaboration with the US Army Natick Research, Design and Engineering Center and Propel was even awarded an Army funded R&D contract for this work. Natick tested the Propel product and their field testing has demonstrated how quiet it is. In fact, we’ve heard audio files collected during testing and it’s amazing how much more quiet it is than standard hook and loop configurations. Additionally, Quiet Loop exhibits great NIR and camouflage print definition which, when combined with the audio signature advances, contributes to an enhanced overall signature management effort.

Propel stocks Quiet Loop in Multicam VS, and with their unique printing process they can rapidly develop and print any other pattern with small minimums. At SHOT Show you’ll see Quiet Loop in the PenCott family of camouflage patterns from Hyde Definition and in new camouflage patterns from Orion Design Group.

Propel was founded in 2006 and is involved in multiple R&D efforts for enhanced Soldier and Firefighter protection. They also work with D3O, the UK impact protection technology that is also used in Level 9 PCU, and developed and manufacture the US Army’s FR Ghillie Yarn Accessory Kit among several other cool projects. If the project requires the development of a new military textile, Propel is most likely involved.
