TacHacker – Duro Overruns

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Occasionally, we get inquiries from those looking for a few yards of this or that so that they can take on a do-it-yourself project. There are plenty of places to source fabric, but one that everyone who manufactures soft goods should check is Duro Textiles, LLC. They hold the license for MultiCam and print a wide variety of patterns on even more fabrics. Check this link for overrun offerings.

The torso and monkey paw cuffs of the Combat Shirt uses the Polartec Power Dry FR with sleeves and yoke made from the new lightweight TenCate fabric recently adopted by the US Army. Alternatively, if FR is not required, 50/50 NYCO will be used in place of the TenCate fabric. The cuffs can be turned under when not needed. The torso fabric extends up into the armpit area to enhance breathability and range of motion. It also features inset zipped sleeve pockets with Velcro patches and a left forearm poacket as well as a mandarin zipped collar.

Despite a low profile silhouette the pants still offer 11 pockets. Optional cord loops after the ability to dummy cord critical items and a semi-elastic waistband make for comfort when layers are added or subtracted. A flush hammer loop to the left rear handles knives or other tools. Flat rear and front thigh pockets help reduce bulk.

These will make a great alternative combat ensemble for those who do not use the standard Army and Marine uniform options. I’ve not even touched on all of the features so be sure to look for more info at www.782gear.com.

NBOW – Beyond Tactical

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Beyond Tactical offers something NO ONE else does; custom tactical clothing. Not only can you specify fabric and to a certain degree pocket configuration, but most importantly, size.

Here is Beyond Tactical’s authorized version of USSOCOM’s Protective Combat Uniform Level 9 garment. This garment was custom made specifically for a GSS Gear. Beyond took her measurements and crafted a garment that fits her 5’2″ frame. Fit is of primary concern for Beyond and they have put a great deal of work in their patterning to ensure that the garment moves with and not against the wearer.

Vertx Smock Sneak Peek

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Vertx has had a smock in development for some time but production models should hit the market in Fall. Just in time for winter in Afghanistan! As you can see from the articulated design, stowaway hood, and pocket layout, this is very much a modern take on a traditional item. But Vertx has updated more than just the basic concept. Vertx will be offering their take on the smock in a synthetic material called Storm which is the same fabric used in the Gunfighter Storm Shirt. It features a 40D face fabric and is anti-microbial. Naturally, it’s MultiCam.

Australians Issue Mystery Ranch 3-Day Pack

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

As part of the new Soldier Combat Ensemble, the Australian Army is issuing the Mystery Ranch 3-Day Assault Pack as their Medium pack. The pack’s bolsters make it compatible with the Tiered Body Armor System. The pack was selected for issue after a competitive trial conducted by 8/9 RAR and the 2nd Cdo Regt’s Development Cell. Although Australian Army officials say there is need for at least 6 separate packs, they feel they may be able to get along with just one frame system.

New Holster Option for MRD Equipped Glocks

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Grey Group Training just added a new holster from Safariland (ALS 6354 OPTIC QLS FORK) designed specifically for Glocks with a slide mounted mini red dot optic or tall target style adjustable sights. It is available in two versions, one is for a pistol with a mounted X300 and the other without, for both the Glock 17/22 and the 34/35 in right or left hand options. The version for the SureFire X300 is specifically designed to interface smoothly with the DG switch. As you can see, the holster is offered in MultiCam and covered in a suede/330D Cordura laminate for sound and visible signature reduction. The Cordura covering and all visible hardware is treated to minimize Near Infrared (NIR) and visible signatures.

The holsters come mounted with a Quick Locking System (QLS) 19 fork and have no other mounting provisions included. However, this will attach directly to a similarly equipped belt mount or leg shroud. The new fork is much stronger than the original model but won’t slide right into PALS webbing. To mount to MOLLE/PALS you will need a MOLLE fork with a QLS receiver. It’s 360 degree adjustable.
