I made a quick visit to HSP’s batcave in the Phoenix area last fall. Travis Haley showed me a bunch of cool projects including prototypes of the new FlatPack. I am very happy to see it make it to market.
The D3 FlatPack is a pack designed with a unique expandable gusset system, which allows it to go from an almost flat profile to 600 cubic inches when completely expanded.
In the compressed state, the FlatPack has storage room in the main compartment for a 1 liter hydration bladder, and small items such as batteries, energy gels, and chem lights in the dedicated admin chamber. When expanded, the main compartment can fit a fully-loaded D3CR, helmet, or jacket, and the admin chamber can fit electronics and/or small binoculars.
The FlatPack fully integrates with a D3CR or D3CR-H, with the pack straps replacing the H-harness. This combination results in a light recon, patrol, or EDC/Worst Case Scenario rig. The FlatPack is also compatible with any PALS-based system including plate carriers, assault vests or other packs with external PALS webbing.
Designed with the SOF end user in mind, the FlatPack is also great as a compact carry bag for civilians. The padded inner chhamber comfortably and safely stores consumer electronics including common tablet computers and laptops up to 8″ x 12″, and can also accommodate items such as books and digital cameras.
Available in Black, Coyote, MultiCam, and Ranger Green.
This is the last installment of a three-part exclusive sneak peek at Huron Tactical’s new pack and clothing line. Today, we’ll cover the 68 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack. It’s a hybrid top/panel loader design with a common external frame that can be swapped out with other pack bags.
This 22″ Huron Load Carriage Backpack Frame was designed to aid in the overall load carriage of the family of packs as well as additional components and can accommodate all of the larger Huron pack bags. The frame itself is 1.5 to 2 pounds lighter than most other makes on the market. The Yoke/Shoulder and Waist Belt assembly can be custom fit to the users height and girth thanks to a PALS-style grid that is adjustable for height.
The front, side and inside main compartment has generous amounts of PALS webbing to secure extra pouches or the PRC117 radio adapter. An internal mesh comprehension system secures and prevents unnecessary shifting of packed equipment. Attachment points on the top and front of the pack were added in order to use interchangeable front flaps and caps, which add space when needed.
• Cubic Liters: 68 (Main Body, LG V.2 Cap, Nalgene Bottle Pockets, Roll Bottom Storage Compartment)
• Dim: 25.5”H x 13.625”W x 9.75”D
Like the 32 liter model, this larger pack has a rolltop closure that sits independently below the Cap. It is closes with Velcro, is rolled tight and then secured via SR buckles meaning you can control your load and keep your gear a little drier. This same rolltop closure has been integrated into the bottom sleeping gear compartment so no zippers to catch on your sleeping bag as you try to stuff it into place. It’s like having a built-in compression stuff sack and will accept up to an extreme cold weather bag. The bottom of the pack also offers canteen/Nalgene pockets on either side as well as straps to secure extra gear such as rigid sleeping pads.
Additional Features:
•Fully adjustable Yoke with 6 points of vertical tuning
•Carry Handle
•Adjustable waist belt with integrated removable lumbar support
•PALS webbing for MOLLE attachment
•Top loading with compression strap closure
•Hard sewn zippers allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable front flaps such as the Direct Action Assault Pack which also fits the rear of the TYR Tactical PICO Armor Carrier
•Front loading via heavy duty #10 zippers on the right & left side of the pack
•Attachment points allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable caps. Each pack comes complete with a Large cap
•Side compression straps allow the user to the overall capacity of the pack when areas are not in use
•Antimicrobial/FR treated padded spacer mesh is used on the internal portions of the vest for comfort
The Huron 68 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack Is made from 500D Cordura as well as TYR Tactical’s PV material in key areas for incredible strength and abrasion resistance. The full Huron line will be released 15 June, 2015 from www.TYRtactical.com.
This is the second installment in a three-part exclusive sneak peek at Huron Tactical’s new pack and clothing line. Today, we’ll cover the 32 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack with Direct Action Assault Pack. The pack itself is a hybrid top/panel loader design with an internal frame. The internal frame of the pack is constructed of aluminum and carbon fiber. Huron’s 32l Assaulters Sustainment Pack is low profile and uses both 500D Cordura as well their hybrid PV material in key areas for incredible strength and abrasion resistance.
32 liter Assaulter Sustainment Pack
The 32 Liter model is the smallest of Huron Tactical’s new line of packs. Unlike the external frame of other Huron packs, it also incorporates an internal frame and this frame is set up for wear with or without armor. It comes standard with a Large Cap which is removable and other models are also available.
• Cubic Liters: 32 (Main Body, Large Cap, Nalgene Bottle Pockets)
• Dim: 19”H x 11.25”W x 7.75”D
As the yoke and waist belt are adjustable for height using a PALS-style attachment, it’s imperative you take the time to set it up properly for comfort.
The ergonomic, adjustable waist belt has integrated, removable lumbar support and is very comfortable. It is easily tightened by pulling forward on the straps.
One of the features I really like is the top opening. It is a rolltop closure that sits independently below the Cap. It is Velcro closed and secured via SR buckles meaning you can control your load and keep your gear a little drier.
Additional Features:
•Carry Handle
•Pals webbing for MOLLE attachment
•Four integrated expandable side pockets for a Nalgene bottle or canteen
•Hard sew zippers allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable front flaps.
•Front loading via heavy duty #10 zippers on the right & left side of the pack
•Attachment points allow the user to change the overall storage capacity of the pack with interchangeable caps
•Side compression straps allow the user to the overall capacity of the pack when areas are not in use
•Antimicrobial/FR treated padded spacer mesh is used on the internal portions of the vest for comfort.
•Yoke load levelers adjust the pack vertically and horizontally which assists in reducing fatigue
DAAP
You’ll also notice a large pouch of sorts on the back of the 32l ASP. That’s actually a Direct Action Assault Pack that uses zips and snaps to attach to the main bag, just like it does in the PICO family of armor vests from TYR Tactical. This allows for a lot of flexibility as it can be carried to an ORP attached to the pack and then transitioned to the vest for actions on the objective. It includes shoulder straps so it can also be worn stand alone, but increases the load capacity and organization options when used in conjunction with a larger pack.
The DAAP features 1” daisy chain gear loops and 2 rows, 2 columns PALS for attachment capabilities. DAAP incorporates the same integrity as the Huron Assaulters Sustainment Rucksack System and features a reinforced gusset around the bottom of the pack, internal mesh storage pocket, internal hydration pocket with top hydration port and a removable beavertail for storing helmet or transitional garments.
While I was at Warrior West, I had a chance to check out some new packs dropping from LBT for their Fall line, and they look promising. Now, LBT has released a bit of info on the packs ahead of their release date, which is currently set for June 1st.

Additionally, LBX Tactical and Dynamis Alliance have linked up with IronClad Media to give you a look at the new Adaptiv Combatives suit.
Dynamis partnered with LBX Combatives to develop this advanced, 100% made in America fight suit. ADAPTIV gear allows the end user to train at real speeds in a multitude of environments. Its injury-prevention/impact-reduction system enhances training performance by allowing operators to realistically practice detainee handling, shoot/don’t shoot drills with approved marking cartridges, and other close-quarters combat skills. It can also adapt to MMA training, making it the most versatile fight suit on the market.
Force Protector Gear has introduced a new load carrying technology into their FOR61 Tac Pack Extreme. This articles concentrates on the DWD suspension and not the bag. The Dynamic Weight Distribution system was developed by the Israeli company Source who has been working with Force Protector Gear to integrate this Exoskeletal Frame System into a pack. The small mesh pockets on the waistbelt will store the control unit explained below. Production versions of the belt move this storage pocket to make it more easily accessible.
DWD mimics the human spine, with a single stay that rotates at the hips via the L5 joint which allows you to cut the belt away yet also offers flexion while walking. It also incorprates a control unit that allows you to adjust the distribution of the percentage of load carried by waist or shoulders as well as frame height. Load distribution is totally adjustable on the fly in increments of 15% from the hips to the shoulders as the user sees fit.
DWD accommodates personnel from 5’3” to 6’10” in its current configuration with two different Spine Bars (medium and large).
DWD is also a modular system that attaches to the pack or vest platform that needs to be carried thanks to PALS compatibility.
I got a chance to try it out with a 45 lbs load. The load moves with you and allows excellent upper body rotation. Below you can see how the DWD allows load rotation while being worn.
The TACC-1 (Tactical Assault Carrying Case) Discreet Carry Rifle System is a guitar and rifle case. Made of 1200 nylon, it features high-density EPE padding throughout to protect the bag contents. PALS webbing along the front exterior allows for a high degree of customization with the addition of accessory pouches; a strip of Velcro loop allows for attachment of a name tape.
The rear features reinforced shoulder carrying straps, as well as a grab handle. Additional features include:
