ACR Electronics – SARLink

Fort Lauderdale, FL., February 15, 2016 – ACR Electronics, Inc.announces the release of the SARLink. The world’s first communication device that combines the global services of Iridium’s Short Burst Data, and the Cospas-Sarsat 406 MHz emergency network into an ergonomically designed hand-held device. The Iridium based features of the SARLink fulfil the requirements for Blue & Friendly Force Tracking, as well as two-way messaging for command and control. The 406 MHz locator beacon leverages the proven reliability of the Cospas-Sarsat network, which has successfully aided search and rescue personnel around the world in saving over 37,000 lives since the mid-1980’s.

SARLink can be provisioned to operate on the DoD Gateway utilizing the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services airtime contract, or the Iridium Commercial Gateway, supporting 10, 30 byte, and PECOS formats. The 406 MHz beacon can be configured to standard or national protocol. SARLink incorporates a second battery dedicated to 406 MHz operation, providing more than 24 hours of distress messaging.

Military personnel equipped with a SARLink will benefit from the following distinct operational capabilities:

Dedicated SOS Button – redundant emergency notification through both the Cospas-Sarsat and Iridium networks with embedded Precise Location Information (PLI)

Iridium Only Distress Alerting – option to engage the Iridium-only distress alert, user-defined notification to proprietary command centers and personnel

Two-Way Data Communication – send and receive free-text and canned messages using the on-board QWERTY touch screen keyboard to:

Verify and validate distress messages as well as routine operational command and control;
Communicate via text with:
– other mobile cellular and satellite devices;
– other SARLink devices; and
– any email service.

Contact lists can be pre-defined and can incorporate canned messages that are scripted and loaded across agency devices

Friendly Force Tracking – transmit PLI at selectable intervals from once per minute to once per day. Create, save, and send waypoints as well as manual check-ins

Jon Hoerauf Announced As General Manager At Arc’teryx

Jon Hoerauf, who joined Arc’teryx in 2012, will become General Manager of Arc’teryx, reporting directly to Heikki Takala, CEO of AMER Sports and replacing Vncent Wauters, who has resigned after four years as President and General Manager.

The 41-year-old Hoerauf came to Ar’teryx after 13 years at The North Face. Since moving the Arc’teryx, they’ve launched footwear and avalanche safety products as well as down garments and a major update to the venerable Alpha SV. To make these things happen, Horeauf oversaw improvements at the headquarters and manufacturing facility in North Vancouver, BC as well as brand retail shops.

B.E. Meyers Awarded Sole Source Contract by USMC for Ocular Interruption System

The GLARE® RECOIL employs a dazzling laser to hail and warn potential threats while implementing escalation of force procedures. Commanders have a single, non-lethal hail and warning capable device to use across the range of Marine Corp military operations.

The GLARE® RECOIL represents the culmination of a decade of technological development used to create the safest and most effective ocular interruption laser in the world. The GLARE® RECOIL features pioneering EyeSafe® technology with the latest advancements in automatic power control.

The GLARE® RECOIL uses a 250mW maximum output power source, while its safety control design establishes the laser safety classification as a 2M laser system by using a Laser Range Finder (LRF), Near Field Detector (NFD), and 3-axis Gyroscope. This approach to laser safety in an ocular interruption device is unique to the B.E. Meyers design. The green beam is always effectively regulated by SmartRange™ technology and eye safety is sustained through controlling the maximum permissible exposure (MPE) on target.

Beaverton Police Department Receives K9 Safety Grant From The Spirit Of Blue Foundation

Spirit of Blue presented a $2,500 grant to the Beaverton Police Department for the acquisition of a new K9 working dog, sponsored by the Planet Dog Foundation. The grant was presented by Ryan T. Smith of Spirit of Blue (center) and was received by (left to right) Officer Matt Barrington, K9 Atlas and Chief Geoff Spalding.

BEAVERTON, OREGON – February 8, 2016 – The Spirit of Blue Foundation announced that it has awarded a K9 Safety Grant to the Beaverton Police Department (BPD) to contribute to the acquisition of a tracking and article search K9. The new dog will replace veteran K9 Alex who retired at the first of the year after serving for 8 years with Officer Steve Anderson. The $2,500 grant was sponsored by the Planet Dog Foundation, the charitable arm of dog toy and accessory manufacturer Planet Dog, who has given over $1 million dollars to organizations that bring people and dogs together for fun and mutual support.

“The Beaverton Police K9 Program sets the standard in this area of the country,” said Ryan T. Smith, Executive Director of the Spirit of Blue. “Not only will K9 Atlas be a great resource for this city, but he will bring an added layer of protection to the officers in Beaverton and will continue a legacy of excellence in this program and others that are influenced by it.” Smith served as a Reserve Police Officer with the Beaverton Police Department from 1999-2006.

K9 Atlas is a 24 month old male German Shepherd, bred in Hungary, who received his initial training at the Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, IN. His K9 handler will be Officer Matt Barrington, in his first role as a K9 officer, who has been with the department for eight years. Officer Barrington and K9 Atlas are currently in a 10-week K9 Academy program and will begin working the road in Mid-March of 2016. K9’s bring an auditory and olfactory advantage to police work, able to track subjects and identify articles not easily found by their human counterparts. But, all K9’s are trained to protect their handlers, making them an effective less lethal force option while enhancing the safety of officers on duty.

“The Planet Dog Foundation is proud to sponsor the great work of essential canine partners like Atlas,” added Stephanie Volo, Chief Retail Officer of Planet Dog, Inc. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with the Spirit of Blue Foundation to offer needed grants to deserving agencies such as this.”

Statistics released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund show that 124 law enforcement officers lost their lives in 2015, an increase of 4% from the prior year. 42 of those officers were firearm related fatalities, while 35 were lost as a result of a motor vehicle crash. In addition, the Officer Down Memorial Page reported that 26 K9 working dogs were lost in 2015 as well. The reality of these statistics, and the increasing number of underfunded law enforcement agencies across the country, fuel the Spirit of Blue safety grant initiative.

First-Light USA “GRIPS” Design Standard Brings New Ideas To Low-light Shooting

Las Vegas, NV (January 19, 2016) – Since 2004, First-Light USA has been the innovation leader in the design and manufacturing of hands-enabling tactical lighting tools available for use with firearms. GRIP

The unique ergonomics of First-Light USA’s products allow the user to maintain a two-handed grip when shooting, similar to how people train with no light in hand. This differs from most tube light techniques that force the user to shoot with only one hand making recoil management difficult.

RETENTION

The retention features on the light lets the operator use his or her hands while maintaining positive control of the light which helps keep the user focused on the situation at hand.
