Sea To Summit – Ascent Down Sleeping Bags

Insulated with ULTRA-DRY Down 750+ for performance in wet weather, the Ascent offers extra room between hips and knees and a mixture of vertical and horizontal baffles in the chest area to help prevent compression and clumping of the insulation.

Their triple-zipper Free-Flow Zip system offers separate zippers on your left (full length) and right side (half length) and in the foot box. Open them for ventilation or to turn the Ascent into a fully-flat comforter.

What’s more, the Ascent can be connected to the Women’s Altitude, Journey and Venture sleeping bags, in both Regular and Long lengths because they all have the same side zipper length.

Offered in 25 F, 15 F and 0 F models in regular and long lengths. But don’t let those ratings fool you. There’s a lot of venting like we mentioned earlier, offering increased versatility in marker weather.

Here are their recommended uses:

– 2.5 Season: 25°F (comfort range 25°F to 70°F)

– 3 Season: 15°F (comfort range 15°F to 65°F)

– Winter: 0°F (comfort range 0°F to 60°F)

Helinox Savannah Chair

Helinox makes great, lightweight camping chairs but many of their designs are minimalist in nature. Enter the Savannah Chair which offers plenty of comfort thanks to the roomy seat and legs that put it at a proper height so you don’t feel like you’re doing deep squats getting in and out of it. Even better? It’s available in MultiCam for those long deployments.

Floor to the top of the back, it’s 44″ tall and 31″ wide, with the seat 16″ off the ground. There’s beverage holder and a spot for a pillow.

The Savannah will accept up to 320 lbs but weighs just 4 lbs, 3 oz and packs up into a 6″ high and 21″ long bag for storage.

Therm-a-Rest Vesper Quilt

The Vesper Quilt from Therm-a-Rest is rated to 32 deg F (0 C) but weighs just 15 oz, stuffing down to the size of a one liter water bottle. That’s thanks to the 900-fill Nikwax Hydrophobic Down.

Remember, this isn’t a sleeping bag, it’s a quilt, that you wrap up in, so consider it appropriate for three seasons. Or, use it in conjunction with a cold weather clothing system.

One feature that’s pretty cool, is that it will integrate with a Therm-a-rest mattress. Plus, there’s a nice footbox, built-in.

Available in regular and tall lengths, there’s also a model that goes down to 20 deg F (-6 C).

Brigantes Issue Essentials – OMM’s Tactical Insulated Tarp

Each week we bring you products that should be on all military standard issue kit lists. This week it’s OMM’s Tactical Insulated Tarp.

The OMM Tactical Insulated Tarp is a lightweight waterproof, multipurpose tactical warm/sleeping system. It has a camouflaged waterproof print on the exterior with a reversible inner white material for concealment in winter/snowy environments.

The Tactical Insulated Tarp can be configured in multiple ways to enable it to be used as a sleeping bag, an insulated tarp or worn as a full-length insulated waterproof outer layer.

As well as a sleeping bag and thermal, waterproof outer layer it can also be used as a waterproof insulated shelter. It comes with sewn-in tape and webbing rigs and each end that are internally strengthened. It can be tensioned and strung to provide a waterproof insulated shelter. Each corner has taped attachment points to allow for a customisable shelter.
