SIG Range Day 2018 – 300URG Integrally Suppressed Upper

I gave you a sneak peek yesterday of a new integrally suppressed 300 BLK Upper Receiver Group from SIG called the 300SRG. It uses the MCX short stroke piston architecture and integrates a 6.75″ barrel with a 19 baffle titanium suppressor.

Several questions came up regarding the overall length so I asked SIG’s John Hollister.

John verified that it is in fact, a single stamp upper. In fact, during development the called it the “one stamp”. The overall Barrel length is about 16.75″. Below, you can see the pin where the suppressor is pinned to the barrel.

John also told me the official measurement for sound suppression is 121 dB, but that was taken in the winter. He’s regularly recorded 119 dB.

He went in to tell me that it does leverage technology developed for a government program for a special customer, but it was not either of the programs I referenced yesterday, PDW or SURG. However, SIG’s submission to both of them leverages that same work 300URG does.

OSS Introduces New HELIX-QD Suppressor Line

• HX-QD Magnum Ti: a short, lightweight and durable suppressor for large bore rifles – ideal for most .30 caliber platforms. With a fully welded Grade 5 titanium body and heat treated 17-4 stainless steel and Grade 5 titanium internals, the HX-QD Magnum Ti is full-auto rated for 5.56, and delivers hearing safe suppression from 5.56 (sub-133 dB) to .338 (sub-139 dB) — no other .338 suppressor is this versatile. MSRP is $1599.

Magpul Suppressor Cover – 5.5”

The Magpul® Suppressor Cover – 5.5” is the first product of its kind able to stand up to the extreme temperatures caused by extended strings of semi-automatic and automatic fire and still protect the user against burns by keeping internal can temperatures at safe levels and cool-off times short. The Magpul® Suppressor Cover – 5.5” is made up of a heat-resistant polymer sleeve overlaid onto a raised stainless steel heat shield that mounts directly to the suppressor body with steel clamps. Leadership Changes Announced at SilencerCo

Burn Proof Gear – Suppressed Pistol Holster

Burn Proof Gear specializes in suppressor covers. However, they also offer a holster compatible with suppressor-equipped pistols. That’s feat enough alone, but they’ve also made the holster large enough for a suppressor equipped with their BPG Suppressor Cover Light. Granted, that’s a serious draw stroke, but few suppressor holsters exist on the market.

The holster is equipped with the G-Code RTI attachment and fitted with a G-Code drop-leg kit.

Paul Kim Working On Gen 2 VORTEX Suppressor Design

For years, Paul Kim was the creative force at SureFire, responsible for the design of several of their lights. A few years ago, PK struck on his own, standing up the aptly named, PK Designs Lab. We’ve showcased several of his lights over the years, but now he’s working on a Suppressor design.

Apperently, this is his second generation, disclosing on a Facebook post, “My previous Gen 1 suppressor was never analyzed to this level of scrutiny. This time we are doing it right.”

He went to offer four images, stating, “Here is a sneak preview of the finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics analysis of our Gen 2 VORTEX suppressor design.”

Crane “Contaminates” SURG Test Samples By Crosspolinating Weapon Components Between Vendor Submissions, Calls On Offerors For New Samples

Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane in Indiana is responsible for the testing and procurement of USSOCOM’s weapons. One of the projects they have been working on for SOCOM is the Suppressor Upper Receiver Group, an upgrade of the M4A1 Lower Receiver Group will allow the Warfighter’s weapon to be optimized for continuous suppressed use.

Earlier this year, the program had its second go around after an initial attempt at identifying a system failed last year. Performance parameters were adjusted from the earlier effort to more accurately reflect what was possible, and vendors submitted three sample SURG candidates each.

Unfortunately during recent testing, sample weapons were incorrectly assembled using parts from different vendor submissions, undermining the integrity of the results.

Last week, Crane contacted vendors and informed them that any offeror which had passed Phase I could resubmit three samples by 26 October in order to continue participation in the solicitation.

The government will then reaccomplish Phase I and then move on to Phases I & III with the resubmitted samples.

Additionally, Crane has outlined measures it will take to prevent future crosspollination of parts between vendor submissions.

Unfortunately, this information has not been made public via Fed Biz Opps as was the case with the original solicitation, which catalogued 11 updates.

Interestingly, United States Army Special Operations Command, the largest SOF component, is not one of the stakeholders for this capability. Hopefully, this program will result in a new Suppressed URG for the requesting warfighting community which includes other SOCOM components. As of now, USASOC plans to stick with its current suppressor capability, provided by SureFire.
