This type of bowl is typically found in high end ramen shops, and “Tayoudon” literally translates as “multi-purpose bowl”. This shape of bowl is not only perfect for ramen, but also equally well suited for udon, soba, pho, to beef stew, chili and more. AUSA 22 – Camelbak Arctic Canteen Parka

Developed for use with the Ability One produced one quart arctic canteen and canteen cup, the new Arctic Canteen Parka from Camelbak is an issue item. It is MOLLE compatible and will keep water in liquid form for up to 10 hours in temperatures down to -60 F. Although not the intended use, it will also keep water cool for up to four hours in temperatures up to 95 F.

The Big Gear Show 22 – LifeSaver

LifeSaver is well known in Europe for its water storage and purification systems. They are bringing out a new item called the Wayfarer.

Priced at under $100 it removes 99.999% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, and 99.99% of cysts and parasites from freshwater sources. This pump-style filter will produce 1.4L per minute and up to 1,320 US gallons over the life of the filter medium.

The Big Gear Show 22 – The LavaBox Portable Campfire

There’s a new accessory for the LavaBox and it’s called the Over/Under Grill Thingy. It’s probably the best name ever for a product because it does exactly what it’s named.?

It can be configured under the LavaBox to offer clearance or it can be placed atop the LavaBox to be used as a grill.

Dometic Go Begins Rollout, Hydration Jug Now Available

By far the most impressive gear I saw at last year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market was their new Go line of outdoor furniture and accessories.

The whole line is cool, but my favorite is the Hydration Jug. There’s a bit of a joke in the capacity. Their line of thinking was that although other water jugs holds 10 liters, their’s goes to 11.

The HYD-J11 features a 63 mm Nalgene-style opening for easy attachment of water filters and accessories. There’s an additional opening which is big enough to allow access to the interior for thorough cleaning. It’s also constructed from BPA-free, food-grade LDPE.

Finally, the design integrates built-in tiedown guides and removable webbed carry handles. Offered in Ash, Black and Glacier. Unfortunately, the new accessory faucet isn’t out yet but it does come with a spigot.

‘Project Arcwater’ Reigns as 2022 USAF Spark Tank Winner

ORLANDO, Fla. (AFNS) —

Senior Master Sgt. Brent Kenney, 52nd Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, received the 2022 Spark Tank trophy at the Air Force Association’s Warfare Symposium, March 4.

Kenney’s idea, “Project Arcwater,” is a simple, green, expedited way to save energy and provide drinking water by using solar fabric and environmental water harvesting in an agile combat employment. This will cut the operational energy and logistics associated with operations all around the Department of the Air Force.

It was a close competition as the six semi-finalist teams pitched their ideas to Air and Space Force senior leaders and industry experts during the symposium. As judges deliberated between the pitches, audience members online and in person cast their votes and selected Arcwater as a fan favorite. Shortly after, Arcwater was awarded as the 2022 Spark Tank winner.

The Arc Water system is a simple, green, and expedited way to save energy, provide drinking water, and support contingencies across the world in a small agile package. “It was an amazing experience,” Kenney explained. “Being part of this process was amazing, getting to know all these other innovators and seeing how they are just as passionate as you are.”

The Spark Tank initiative allows Airmen from around the force to put forward some of their best innovative ideas and compete to make it reality.

Kenney created Arcwater to provide a system that aims to significantly decrease the logistics of transporting water and energy needs at off-the-grid locations through solar panels, a water harvester, and AC/heating tool, creating gallons of potable water out of thin air.

According to Kenney, now that Arcwater is the 2022 Spark Tank winner and has support from DAF, it can shift to reaching its full potential.

“Without the support of those that I work with in my office, I would not be here,” Kenney said.

Front Runner Expands Off-Grid Travel Accessory Collection

Front Runner Outfitters (Front Runner) released its 20-liter Pro Water Tank with Mounting System. Its low profile makes it an easy-to-handle solution for carrying water during vehicle travel and an additional size option to Front Runner’s product lineup.

This 5.3-gallon water tank allows users to free up valuable room on their racks without sacrificing volume or features. The mid-sized tank is appropriately sized for smaller roof rack cargo trays where space is limited, or for adding volume to additional water tanks for larger-scale travel plans. The water tank comes out of the box with a mounting bracket system, lockable tap and the hardware required to mount to a Slimline II roof rack system.

The Tank is made of food-grade, BPA-free polyethylene and incorporates two passthrough holes in the tank body for added structural integrity and easier handling when removing the tank from the rack. A powder-coated steel wraparound bracket provides secure transport and mounts easily to Slimline II roof rack systems with a latch that includes a safety catch.

Both the mounting bracket and water tap are lockable via a small accessory lock that is sold separately. The included tap is threaded and can be swapped with other half-inch threaded fittings to accommodate hoses for relocating the water tap in a customizable configuration.

Sawyer Tap Water Filtration System

Just because water is coming out of a tap doesn’t mean it is potable. Sawyer makes it easier to ensure you’ve got access to clean water with their Tap Water Filtration System which connects directly to the threads on spigots and faucets*.

It allows you to filter up to 500 gallons per day, with pores no larger than 0.1 Microns, removing 99.99999% of all bacteria (salmonella, cholera, and E. coli); 99.9999% of all protozoa (such as giardia and cryptosporidium); and 100% of microplastics.
