Aku showed me a Pilgrim variant that hasn’t received much attention outside of Europe.

The Pilgrim TSC is offered in versions with and without a GORE-TEX lining.

Features include reinforcement for fast-roping as well as padding at the ankle.

The sole is the Vibram Curcuma which is anti-static as well as heat and POL resistant. Additionally, the sole is puncture resistant. It’s also about 20 grams lighter per pair than the Pilgrim DS.

The Big Gear Show 22 – The LavaBox Portable Campfire

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

There’s a new accessory for the LavaBox and it’s called the Over/Under Grill Thingy. It’s probably the best name ever for a product because it does exactly what it’s named.?

It can be configured under the LavaBox to offer clearance or it can be placed atop the LavaBox to be used as a grill.

The Big Gear Show 22 – Bus Bum

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

Bus Bum was developed out of necessity by a longtime member of LA’s textile industry. She related that she had once sat on something that stained her pants so she sewed up a padded seat cushion which could be rolled up.

Bus Bum is available in a variety of colors. It is made in the US from anti-microbial and durable US materials. The slip cover can also be removed for cleaning.

The Big Gear Show 22 – Vaucluse Gear

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

Austin-based Vaucluse Gear designed a pack harness appliqué called the Cool-Dry Frame which is designed to make you sweat less and improve airflow.

Here you can see how it compresses between back and pack but retains enough space to facilitate airflow.

They are currently 3-D printing the Cool-Dry Frames but are transitioning to injection molding and expect it to stay at its current 6 oz weight.

2022 The Big Gear Show

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022

Now in its second year, The Big Gear Show is held in Park City, Utah, just miles above Salt Lake City. They’ve selected an excellent venue to bring together manufacturers, retail buyers and the outdoor media to check out the Las test products and get some hands-on time.

With the show about one-third paddle sports, one-third bikes and the remainder made up of the rest of the outdoor space, there’s plenty of room to take a bot out in the lake or hit the trail with a demo bike.

There is lots to see.

EXO Charge Mission-Ready Power Solutions at the Warfighter Summit and Exposition

Friday, July 22nd, 2022

Xentris Wireless created the EXO Charge division specifically to address the needs of next-generation portable power solutions for military applications. Incorporating globally proven, and industry standard, technologies such as USB help improve the operational capabilities of electronics at the tactical edge – as well as helping to reduce the battery weight and logistical burden borne by the Warfighter.

Visit booth number 110 at the AUSA Warfighter Summit and Exposition on July 27 & 28 in Fayetteville, N.C. to see the latest from EXO Charge, including:

Small Tactical Universal Battery (STUB) – The STUB is a new family of standardized, rechargeable military batteries that will provide a common power source across different devices. This improves interoperability and reduces the physical battery burden and logistics for the Warfighter. The STUB series also includes the latest USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) for fast charging and USB-C connector technology for improved performance and standardization. Work has also begun on a range of accessories for interoperability with legacy power systems and devices.

Rugged Auxiliary Charger (RAC) – Featuring GaN semi-conductor technology, the rugged, compact, and powerful RAC utilizes USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) fast charge technology – and can charge several devices simultaneously. Supporting up to 300W of total power and equipped with an SAE and a Nett Warrior connector, the RAC is compatible with the UBC standard military bulk charger, as well as working as a stand-alone charger for standard batteries such as the 2590 and CWB. The RAC will be MIL-STD-810 & 461 qualified and features two USB-C ports for fast charging for the new STUB series of batteries – as well as commercial off-the-shelf devices.

Augmented Power Pack (APP) – The APP is a fully ruggedized 300Wh power bank designed for operational use in austere environments that can charge several devices simultaneously using USB Power Delivery (USB PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS) fast charging technology. Featuring two USB-C ports and a Nett Warrior connector, the APP delivers multi-voltage support (5V-20V) for exceptional power flexibility and system interoperability. Built to MIL-STD-810 & 461 ruggedness standards, the APP features an NVG-compatible display screen and has a form factor optimized for tactical carriage and use.

Milrem Robotics and FN Herstal Demonstrate Intelligent Combat UGV at Eurosatory

Wednesday, June 15th, 2022

The European leading robotics and autonomous systems developer Milrem Robotics and the leading firearms manufacturer FN Herstal demonstrate the THeMIS Combat unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) equipped with the deFNder® Medium Remote Weapon Station (RWS) and intelligent functions at Eurosatory 2022.

The THeMIS Combat UGV provides direct fire support for manoeuvre forces and acts as a force multiplier. With the deFNder® Medium remote weapon station, it offers high precision over wide areas, day and night and increases stand-off distance, force protection and survivability for dismounted soldiers.

The THeMIS UGV is equipped with Milrem’s Intelligent Functions Kit (MIFIK) that allows autonomous mobility such as follow me, return home, point-to-point navigation and obstacle detection and avoidance. Autonomous functions are strictly limited to mobility only. The weapon system is controlled only by a human operator.

“Being part of many combat UGV assessment programs around the globe we have seen that these systems considerably increase the capability of units, especially small units,” said Cpt (res) Jüri Pajuste, Defence Research and Development Director at Milrem Robotics. “Their benefit comes from higher firepower and mobility and most of all through changing tactics. UGV’s are not just technology gadgets, but useful tools to win conflicts,” Pajuste added.

“We are proud to demonstrate the capabilities of our deFNder® Medium on Milrem Robotics’ THeMIS this year again”, said Igor Klapka, VP Systems for FN Herstal. “The number of applications addressed to with our RWS is growing to successfully include unmanned ground or aerial vehicles, and radio-frequency control, whilst the armament remains operated by the human operator. The deFNder® Medium is a stabilized RWS capable of automatically tracking and classifying potential targets, in particular to overcome the latency constraint of any wireless communication of UGVs.”

The THeMIS Combat will be demonstrated twice a day at the demonstration area during Eurosatory 2022.
