Ronin Fire Print

Tuesday, August 20th, 2019

Offered by Ronin Tactics, the Ronin “Fire” print is by artist Marc Lee. Each is signed and the print number will be marked by Tu Lam and the artist.

History-In the teachings of “Fire” from “The Book of Five Rings, 1645” -Miyamoto Musashi explains the art of fighting as fire. As a former Green Beret, I have studied the physical movements of combat and had employed these movements during my time in war. Now as a Ronin, I seek for deeper understanding of the mind. During this process of understanding, I’ve reached out to the writings of past warriors for deeper understanding in the world and in myself. Now as a Ronin and a teacher to many, I find my connection as a human being with others seeking to improve themselves in life and during this process, I found deeper meaning within myself and my connection with the Heavens. “I belong to the warrior in whom the old ways have joined the new.”

Eighth Order – For the Lost Souls

Wednesday, August 14th, 2019

William Romes and Tom Kerr would like to announce the creation of their company Eighth Order, Inc as well as their initial product campaign. They have both been friends of mine for years. I’ve always admired their service to this great country as well as their creativity.

Eighth Order is a foray into Veteran advocacy by the two with the expressed intent of Veterans helping other Veterans tell their stories. After nearly two decades at war, American Veterans are suffering in staggering numbers, with far too many homeless on the street, self-medicating, and taking their own lives. Post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries are far too real and far too prevalent to sit idly by and not do anything.

With stacks of uniforms in our closets and an idea in our minds eye, we’ve set to doing something…anything…that can help other American Veterans.

As I stare at the stacks of utility uniforms in my closet, I remember thinking, “It’s going to be a shame to throw these out. There’s a lot of money spent, and hard work put into those.” Then I thought… “…and a lot of memories too…” With that I thought there had to be a way to re-purpose those uniforms. I remembered seeing the Eagles and Angles products posted on SSD and I thought I may be able to do something similar, but unlike what they’re working on. I thought those guys were doing awesome things and didn’t just want to “me too” something. However, their message is strong, and it resonated with me. Veterans telling their stories is a powerful thing, and not just for people to hear and celebrate, but also because talking about things helps them heal, even if just for a moment. With that in mind, I called the first person I could think of who would tell me to “knock it off, you’re an idiot”. To my surprise, Tom told me to do it, do something, do something about it…and that he wanted to be involved.

We have been working through the back end of this business since January and it is time to get moving. The product offerings will be a range of casual oxford style shirts with the inside of the cuffs, button line, and inside of the collar fitted with pieces of the donated utility uniforms. The uniforms are donated by American Veterans, along with as much or as little of their story they care to share. Those uniforms and stories will travel together to our factory in California. When a product ships, they will go with a card that discusses where that uniform has been and the things it’s seen. The goal, once this initiative gets off the ground is that a percentage of each sale will go to a Veteran non-profit organization focused on PTSD/TBI treatment and rehabilitation programs. With regards to transparency, I have spoken with a number of these types of organizations and to a company have told me to hold on that portion first off. They tell me that I should make sure the business is moving properly before committing funds to their organizations. One gentleman told me that nobody gets help if your company fails because it can’t pay its bills…ease into it.

Our initial offering is being launched on Kickstarter, with possibly a second product on that platform, to get things moving and funded. We anticipate offering several casual oxford style shirts as we walk this path, as well as a couple variations of blazers.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/eighthorder/eighth-order-cotton-oxford-shirts-from-american-veterans

Our initial samplings are based on standard S-XXL shirt sizing. These shirts are made with 100% American cotton, meant to be worn untucked or tucked in and/or with a tie. When we roll out our blazers, they will be simple construction casual wear 4 way stretch Tweave or a similar textile. These products will be made exclusively of American textiles, in America, by Americans employed by American companies.

Thank you for taking the time to understand and we look forward to your support.

Rocky Proud To Partner With National Veterans Memorial and Museum

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019

NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Rocky Boots, an industry leader in military footwear manufacturing for more than 80 years, is proud to partner with the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, Ohio. Monetary support from community partners like Rocky enables the museum to recognize the experiences of veterans, sharing stories that honor, connect, inspire and educate countless people each year.

“We recently took a company outing to the National Veterans Memorial and Museum and our entire organization felt strongly that the museum was a cause we should support,” said Mark Dean, VP of Rocky’s commercial military division. “Rocky Boots has always worked closely with the military and individuals serving, so as a local company, it makes perfect sense for us to support the museum and the stories of our veterans.”

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum opened to the public in October 2018 featuring more than 50,000 square feet of exhibits, memorials, meeting space and classrooms. The museum’s mission is to carefully preserve not only the names, dates, and battles but the intimate memories, personal belongings and painful losses of our nation’s veterans.

Rocky Boots began supplying footwear for the military servicemen during World War II and produced more than one million pairs of boots during that conflict and the Korean War. Popular styles among servicemen and women today include the Rocky S2V and the new lightweight C4R boots. For more information on Rocky military footwear, visit www.rockyboots.com.

Support Torn Warriors

Tuesday, July 16th, 2019

TORN Warriors is a nonprofit for Disabled Veterans that helps empower them through off-road driving/racing (SxS, Motorcycles, and Trucks) and shooting events. Torn Warriors Foundation is launching its first Summer Fundraiser this month with the intent to get include some Vets and raise funds for their inaugural race in August.

Their inaugural fundraiser kicks off July 27th with a two-day shooting and riding event for disabled veterans and wounded service members at the TORN Facility in northeast Nevada. This event is provided at NO COST to those wounded in defense of our country.

On the evening of July 27, they are holding a raffle to offset the costs associated with the above events. They have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our military-community businesses and disabled veterans who have donated items for raffle. Each $100 donation provides a chance to win prizes such as firearms, knives, and veteran-made items.

They appreciate your generosity in their efforts to provide disabled veterans and wounded service members a sense of normalcy and pride participating and enjoying sports and events previously unavailable to them due to injury.

This year, they are hoping to raise $30,000 to cover the costs of the event as well as their first professional race–Best In The Desert’s Vegas to Reno Aug 16-18. The driver will be Curt Caruso, a 25-year veteran of the USMC; the navigator will be double-amputee Clint Trial.

Clint Trial is a Recon Marine who lost both of his legs while running combat operations in Afghanistan January of this year.

MSGT Trial was wounded in action running combat operations in Afghanistan January of this year. Friends of Clints have started a nonprofit for Disabled Veterans called TORN Warriors that helps empower disabled vets through off-road driving/racing as well as shooting events. Task Force Dagger Assists Department of POW/MIA Accounting Agency in Repatriating American Casualties from the Battle of Saipan

Monday, July 15th, 2019

From the hand of Mark Stephens, USA (Ret):

It is my honor to be a part of something so humbling this 75th Anniversary of events that occurred in 1944 during WWII. Out of respect to the families and a much deserved notification process I am not at liberty to discuss our mission in great detail but what I can say is we are returning to Saipan to look for and excavate WWII losses from the Battle of Saipan. We will be excavating a site possibly associated with a F6F-3 Hellcat that was found by our team last year. Several Hellcats were lost during 1944 and we are hoping to excavate and correlate the site with a loss with the hopes of a recovery. Also we will be searching for a B-29 that went down with the entire crew on a mission in 1944. It will involve magnetometer, side scan sonar, and ROV investigation followed by shallow to deep CCR (rebreather) target diving.

The mission is a continued collaboration and teaming of the Department of POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), East Carolina University Marine Archeological Department (ECU) and Task Force Dagger Foundation (TFDF). The TFDF team will be made up of some of our leadership/staff and SOF members that need Mission, Purpose and Focus. These three words, implemented, are incredibly important and impactful to those the foundation serves and supports.

We have received support from many in industry and other great Americans. These types of missions need to continue. It’s great to see so many knowing we can never forget! This is a promise our country made to everyone that has or is serving in our military.

One and a Half Tons of Love and Support Delivered for U.S. Veterans and Service Dogs

Monday, June 17th, 2019

3,210 pounds of Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food Arrives to Support Pairing of Veterans with Service Dogs in American Humane’s Pups4Patriots™ Program

STILLWATER, OKLA., June 13, 2019 – Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food has delivered one and a half tons of love and support (3,210 pounds to be exact) in the form of nutritious free pet food to support two of the nation’s most vulnerable populations: America’s vets and America’s pets.

American Humane’s Pups4Patriots™ program in Stillwater rescues qualified animals in need of forever homes and trains them as service dogs for veterans coping with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. While American Humane, which has supported military veterans and animals for more than 100 years, completely covers the cost of the dogs and their expensive training, which can run upwards of $30,000, the cost of food for these large, active service animals can be significant. Today’s donation will help feed the current class of service dogs being paired with veterans for six to eight months.

“By providing this welcome donation, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food is helping both our brave veterans and animals who otherwise might never have found homes,” says American Humane veterinarian Lesa Staubus, DVM. “We and those who will be benefited by this extraordinary generosity are very grateful for their support.”

The delivery is part of a national effort by American Humane and Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food to distribute more than a million meals of premium, all-natural Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food to U.S. shelters each year. Last year, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food also supported Oklahoma City by delivering 13,000 pounds of pet food to the Pet Food Pantry in Oklahoma City.

“This campaign provides help where it is needed most,” said Robin Ganzert, PhD, president and CEO of American Humane, which was also recently involved in the rescue of animals in the devastating Oklahoma floods. “On behalf of all our brave veterans and the life-changing, life-saving animals who work with them, a big thank-you to our friends at Chicken Soup for the Soul.”

Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food’s CEO Chris Mitchell said, “We are honored to play a part in helping our brave veterans and their valiant service animals and thank American Humane for advancing this vitally important work.”
