Crye Precision Updates Six12 Website – Unveils New Variant

Friday, February 12th, 2016

Crye Precision has updated the Six12 website with some new features, including a section detailing different configurations for the shotgun. Below is a screenshot which breaks down a Compact configuration I saw at SHOT Show.

You may recall that during our SHOT Show coverage of Crye Precision, I mentioned that there are some really cool things to see in the conference room. This was one of them. It wasn’t on display out front which makes me think that launching the site update and publicly unveiling this preciously undisclosed configuration may indicate that the first 100 Six12s are about ready for release.

Be sure to check out all of the configurations available for this modular, revolver-style shotgun at six12.com.

High Tower Armory – RM-25 Magazine for the 10/22

Friday, February 12th, 2016

High Tower Armory has been hard at work developing this windowed polymer magazine for the popular 10/22 rifle.

HTA has incorporated multiple features including steel feed lips, toolless disassembly, translucent panels and round counters as well as finger assisted loading.

This is a cool feature.  According to HTA, the window panels are removable and  when they are, and the follower extension pin is installed, the magazine is in finger assisted reload mode.  This allows the user to compress the spring and follower by hand.  It’s optimized for high volume shooting activities where loading the magazine in a conventional manner takes longer and fatigues the loading hand.

As an introductory offer, SSD readers can take $12 off by using code SoldierSystemsRM25 at check out.

Available in several colors and Made in the USA.

SilencerCo Maxim 9

Monday, February 8th, 2016

SilencerCo’s initial Maxim 9 prototype was built on the Smith & Wesson M&P frame, because it’s what they had lying around.   This latest example, shown at SHOT Show, now has a lot more in common with a GLOCK.

The 3D printed frame accepts GLOCK magazines as well as sights. While the slide catch/stop/release is ambidextrous, SilencerCo plans to make the mag release ambi as well. Adding to the changes, the Maxim 9 now features removable baffles much like the Salvo 12 and Osprey Micro, which allows users to shorten the overall profile of the Maxim 9. Future developments include accommodations for the mounting of a light and/or laser.

As you can see, it integrates a GLOCK style trigger.

Beamshot – Insider Multi-Function Laser Light System

Thursday, February 4th, 2016

Rather than just a single light device, Beamshot’s Imsider is actually a system, consisting of multiple, plug-and-play components which can be quickly configured. In fact, it offers a minimum of two, and up to four different aiming and illumination combinations.

The system incorporates a visible laser sight (Red or Green) with either an IR or White LED or even an IR laser sight or laser illuminator. Multifunction light modes give you the flexibility for momentary, constant on, strobe and dimmer operation ambidextrously. The base model offers an infrared or 500 Lumen LED light. Upgrades include a red or green visible laser sight, an IR laser sight, a laser illuminator as well as a camera module or thermal camera module.

The battery power supply is interestingly contained in the pistol grip. They’ve developed a push-button system to “fast reload” a battery pack. The pistol grip also features a built-in switch, allowing one hand to operate the rifle, laser and light while giving you a free hand for another task. You can also see the wire chase which conforms to the side of the receiver.

Although shown here on an AR, they are also developing a variant for the AK. Finally, the Insider MFLLS is certified to IP67 Waterproof standards.

Morgan Timing Systems – Dry-Fire ProTimer

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016

I saw the Dry-Fire ProTimer at SHOT Show.  It was created by a Veteran of the 75th Ranger Regiment in order to facilitate dry fire practice with a pistol.  In particular, it’s very good at working on draw and presentation.  It utilizes a replacement barrel, training cartridge and timer app. One important note is that the training barrel won’t chamber a live round in the proper caliber (of course, smaller rounds will fit).

The Dry Fire Pro-Timer training device (Patent pend. #) allows the user to receive immediate timing feedback when practicing shooting drills such as draw stroke, magazine changes, clearing malfunctions, and transitioning from a primary to secondary weapon system without having to fire live rounds. The recorded times are accurate down to one-thousandths of a second, and stored on a smartphone (through a downloadable App, included with purchase) enabling the user to compare speed and efficiency while utilizing different techniques and equipment.

Post SHOT Show Wrapup – Tikka Canada Ranger Rifle

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Last year, the Canadian military chose a Tikka rifle to replace the .303 Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifles long issued to their Rangers. Generally, the Canadian Rangers are First Nation and live along the country’s vast frontier. More of a militia than a standing military force, they assume duties as scouts while they conduct their day-to-day tasks and receive a stipend, rifle and training.

The Canadians plan to buy about 6,820 of this version of the Tikka T3 Compact Tactical Rifle designated for service as the C-19. As you probably know, Tikka is owned by Beretta and is the sister company of their Sako brand. Tikka is well known as a great value for hunters. These will not be manufactured in Finland but rather by Colt Canada although Stoeger is handling the deal.

This rifle features a 20″ barrel in .308 with a 1:11 twist. The bolt action is fed by a detachable 10 round magazine. You’ll also notice the laminate stock and oversized trigger guard for use with cold weather handwear.

Although this display model is shown with a Steiner scope, it is my understanding they will be issued with just the iron sights. However, this does demonstrate the rifle’s scope mount and it’s also a BDT company.
