Remington Defense – Concealable Sniper Rifle

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

Here are some shots I took last week of the Concealable Sniper Rifle from Remington Defense.

Utilizing a modified variant of the Remington Arms Chassis System, the CSR quickly comes apart to fold into a backpack. It is currently available in .308 and .300 Blackout and is currently in use with customers.

The collapsible stock can also be removed for more compact transport.

Below, you can see how the barrel fits into the receiver.  The lever in his hand locks the front rail into place.

Interestingly, prototypes included this FAB Defense folding pistol grip but it is not included on production models.

Security Devices International – NTOA Members Show Approval Of SDI’s Blunt Impact Projectiles

Wednesday, March 18th, 2015

NTOA MEMBERS GIVE HIGH MARKS TO SECURITY DEVICES INTERNATIONAL’S BIP PRODUCTS

Security Devices International (SDI), a defense technology company specializing in the development of innovative next generation, non-lethal 40-mm ammunition, today announced that the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) members assigned above average ratings and reviews to several of SDI’s Blunt Impact Projectiles (BIP).

The NTOA members tested and approved four of SDI’s BIPs, all of which received over a 4.0 overall rating. A rating over 4.0 means that the product exceeds advertised specifications on a regular basis and outperforms others in usefulness and quality of workmanship.

The SDI munitions that the NTOA members tested included:

• BIP MO Malodorant Payload
• BIP ML Marking Liquid Payload
• BIP TR Training Round
• Standard BIP

NTOA’s Member Tested and Recommended program allows manufactures to have their products tested in the field by the law enforcement community. Products are tested and scored in 13 possible categories on a scale of 0-5 that include: Design, performance, ease of use, size, quality, durability, storage, versatility, convenience, application for law enforcement, comfort, cleaning/ maintenance, and accuracy. Products receiving a rating of 3.0 or higher will receive NTOA Field Tester Recommended Status.

“Our top priority is to provide the law enforcement community with options in situations that do not warrant the use of lethal force. With police officers and other law enforcement professionals being heavily scrutinized after recent controversial events, we want to equip them with a truly less-lethal option. We are thrilled that an organization as prestigious as the NTOA recognized the quality of our products,” said Gregory Sullivan, CEO of SDI.

SDI’s BIP ammunition has been designed to supersede previous blunt impact solutions such as foam, sponge, and rubber bullets while maintaining in-flight stability throughout an almost flat trajectory. SDI’s family of BIPs are designed for military, peacekeeping, homeland security, law enforcement, correctional services and private sector security, and are ideal for crowd control scenarios and can adapt to any 40mm standard issue launcher.

Is the Wait Almost Over for a Single Stack 9 from GLOCK?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

For the past week images have been swirling around the Internet hinting at a NRA Show by GLOCK of the fabled holy grail; a single stack 9mm.  Collectively, we’ve been demanding such a beast for years, sure that it will be the ultimate concealed carry pistol.

Something big is definitely afoot at GLOCK.  They’ve dropped a few subtle hints on their Facebook page and set up a countdown clock on their site.  They’ve even invited members of the members to an exclusive look at something new, the night before the NRA annual meeting starts.

UPDATE: GLOCK posted this image to their Instagram account today.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this rumor so I’m not getting too excited.  The real question is, if we get it, after all these years, what will we have to complain about?

Boy, It’s Getting Crowded In Here, Meet The LANTAC Keyed Accessory Mounting (KAM) System

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

The Picatinny (Mil Std 1913) attachment has been with us for some time.  Over the past few years, it’s been joined by Key Mod and M-Lok.  Now, LANTAC has thrown their hat into the ring with the license free Keyed Accessory Mounting (KAM) System taking us beyond any  BetaMax/VHS analogies.

Thanks to their adapter plate system, LANTAC claims KAM will attach to round surfaces such as tubular handguards in addition to flat surfaces.  What’s more, the mount itself is 100% integrated and only applies force to the mounting surface.

Sneak Peek – Remington Defense 45 Deg Backup Iron Sights

Monday, March 16th, 2015

The new 45 deg offset back up iron sights from Remington Defense were developed as a component for their Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System candidate rifle.

Consisting of front and rear sights, they are collapsible and adjustable for zero.

Front Sight

Rear Sight

Additionally, these seem to be the first backup sights that are truly ambidextrous.  The rear sight can be flipped about, the opposite way and the actual sight separated from the mount and reattached, pointed in the proper direction.  The Picatinny compatible rear sight is easily secured via a hex head screw.

With the recent announcement of several Remington Defense rifles for sale commercially, we are hoping to see these available soon as well.

Sneak Peek – USMC M40A6 Prototype

Monday, March 16th, 2015

I recently got a look at a prototype of the proposed USMC upgrade to the M40A6 configuration for their venerable sniper rifle based on the Remington 700 action. Well I’m told that IOC still two years out, the decision for the upgrade in stock to a modified version of the Remington Arms Chassis System which has already been adopted in other forms by the US Army and SOCOM.

Currently, the working designation remains M40A6 but it well be fielded as the M40A7.  Apparently, the barrel remains the sticking point, and a final decision on length and twist rate has still not been made although the weapon remains 7.62 NATO.  Take a look at the gallery and you may see a few other tidbits of info like the SureFire suppressor adapter.
