Stratagem – TALON G36 Polymer Mag Holder

Friday, August 9th, 2013

Stratagem has developed the TALON G36 polymer mag holder specifically to reduce the reloading speed and reloading cycle of the G36. It attaches to any MOLLE/PALS system using two short MALLACE clips, and can be mounted in either the up or down position. The TALON is made from a high-impact resistant polymer that provides anti-fragmentation properties. It uses a patented locking system to secure the mag until needed, and is ergonomically designed to naturally fit into the natural motion sequence of reloading. Attachment slots on the front of the holder allow for the attachment of additional modular pouches.

Introducing The NavLight From Specialized Tactical Systems

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

I was introduced to Rob from Specialized Tactical Systems at SHOT Show a couple of years ago by the folks at Crye Precision. STS is a small yet innovative weapon manufacturer and they’ve built guns for a variety of people including my SSD carbine. At SHOT Show 2013, Rob showed me something very cool and I’ve had to keep quiet about it. Until Now.

NavLight® was designed to provide Just Enough Light™. NavLight® provides 0-5 lumens of light allowing for map reading, soft ambient light, SSE, chamber checks, etc. Every other weapon mounted light I’ve seen has a fixed beam, but the NavLight® takes a different approach. Its patent pending mounting system allows the light to rotate 360°, meaning you get illumination where you need it rather than directed coaxially with the barrel of a weapon. The patent pending rotation/locking system is really cool and allows you to reposition the light very easily.

The NavLight® features an adjustable intensity LED of 0-5 lumens with steady on and slow/med/fast strobe functions. In addition to the 360° Picatinny Rail Mount there is also a magnetic/hook Velcro mount as well as a wrist band. It can be also used with PALS through the use of a ITW QASM RAMP Picatinny Mount. The NavLight® can also be adapted to an Ops-Core ARC rail. Offered in White, Green, Red, Blue and IR LEDs.

Disruptive Tech – The 3D Printed Grizzly Rifle Goes Multi-shot

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

Remember the Grizzly single shot 3D printed rifle we mentioned last month? Well the Canadian maker Matthew has been working on his design and has successfully improved it to the point that he can get 14 shots without catastrophic failure. It’s still a single shot design and there’s no such thing as an extractor but he now feels confidant enough to shoulder fire the thing rather than use a lanyard from a fixture.

The genie is out of the bottle and he’s improving his fighting position.

MagnetoSpeed and PROOF Research – Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

This is Caylen Wojcik, Precision Rifle Instructor for Magpul Dynamics with a MagnetoSpeed chronometer mounted to a PROOF Research TACII in .300WM.

PROOF Research uses a patented manufacturing processes using carbon-fiber wrapped barrels to offer the disciplined shooter proven accuracy, longevity and durability. It’s pretty cool. I fired a couple of their weapons at SHOT Show 2013.

If you’ve ever used a chrono, then you know what a pain they can be. That’s why I’m so stoked about the MagnetoSpeed because its barrel mounted, right to the gun. Rather than using screens, it relies on magnetic sensors. Check it out.

Jeff Gonzalez on Traveling with Firearms

Monday, July 29th, 2013

Firearms trainer Jeff Gonzalez from Trident Concepts recently shared some great advice on traveling with firearms.

So after a decade of traveling commercial air, you pick up on a few things. Add the dramatic changes in airline security and it can be a bit confusing. Here are a few tips for traveling with a firearm.

First, know the law where you are going and when in doubt call ahead and if that comes up with some shady information then leave it behind. There are way too many horror stories so forewarned is forearmed. Yes it does suck, but it is a reality we will have to live with for some time to come.
