Team Wendy Releases EXFIL Ballistic SL Helmet

November 5th, 2018

New Helmet Offers a 15 Percent Weight Reduction from the Company’s First Ballistic Helmet

CLEVELAND, OH (Nov. 5, 2018) – Cleveland based Team Wendy® announced the release of its next generation ballistic helmet and the fifth helmet in its EXFIL® line today: the EXFIL Ballistic SL. The SL has a complete system weight of 2.2 lbs. and features the new low-profile EXFIL Rail 3.0, which has a built-in Picatinny rail at its front, allowing the operator more efficient use of the accessory rail.

“Functionality, protection, weight and scalability are always at the forefront when we design new products,” said Jose Rizo-Patron, CEO of Team Wendy. “Operators must be able to move quickly and safely, and their helmet should provide them a systems-based platform that is both comfortable and stable, allowing them to focus on the mission. Compatible with several new tool-free accessories, the SL is a dynamic helmet that can serve any mission, and provides the utmost protection and capabilities in the lightest package.”

The EXFIL Ballistic SL meets a ballistic rating of NIJ Level III-A (according to NIJ STD 0106.01/0108.01), along with a fragmentation V50 of 2,400 ft/s (731 m/s) against 17 grain FSP, and backface deformation below 25.4mm against 9mm FMJ RN at 1,195 ft/s (365 m/s). It also exceeds ACH blunt impact protection requirements (per AR/PD10-02, 16Dec’13) averaging below 70G across all locations and conditions, less than half the allowable 150G maximum.

The SL provides a 15 percent weight reduction over the original EXFIL Ballistic with the same unique EXFIL shell geometry. The new EXFIL Rail 3.0 accessory mounting system, which is 25 percent lighter than the previous EXFIL Rail 2.0 system, is compatible with all available EXFIL accessories and is optimized to support the new EXFIL® Ballistic Visor and EXFIL® Face Shield, recently released in Aug. 2018. The machined aluminum Wilcox® SL shroud provides a 35 percent reduction in weight from the previous Wilcox W Shroud on the original EXFIL Ballistic, while maintaining full NVG mounting capabilities and lanyard compatibility. The EXFIL Ballistic SL also utilizes the innovative, field-proven, boltless CAM FIT™ Retention System to quickly adjust to individual head shapes while providing even weight distribution.

The EXFIL Ballistic SL size one (M/L) has a shell weight of 1.51 lbs. (0.685 kg) and a complete system weight of 2.22 lbs. (1.01 kg). The SL size two (XL) has a shell weight of 1.59 lbs. BE Meyers & Co “MAWLR” LX570 Official Debut

November 5th, 2018

SEMA 2018 finished last week, wrapping up the first year of B.E. Meyers & Co.’s participation in one of the world’s premier auto shows. While SEMA may seem an unlikely place to find a laser manufacturer, B.E. Meyers & Co., who is known for innovative defense and aerospace solutions, had something truly unique to share with the automotive industry. The “MAWLR”, a Lexus LX570 that B.E. Meyers & Co. and Defconbrix transformed into the ultimate overland vehicle, was unveiled at SEMA in the Toyo Tires Treadpass. It is extremely rare to see an LX570 configured for off-road use, and none have a story quite like the MAWLR’s.

When Sean Jennings of Defconbrix picked up the Lexus LX570 from B.E. Meyers & Co. in Redmond, WA last February, it was a completely stock vehicle with a long way to go before it would become the MAWLR. The Lexus had belonged to the founder of B.E. Meyers & Co., the late Brad Meyers. To honor Brad’s adventurous spirit, and his legacy of ingenuity, Matt Meyers, CEO of B.E. Meyers & Co., decided to turn the LX570 into a project build with a unique vision. The MAWLR would parallel the qualities that make B.E. Meyers & Co. products successful, specifically the MAWL® (Modular Advanced Weapon Laser).

Purpose-Built

As a company that focuses primarily on laser systems for night operations, the B.E. Meyers & Co. team needed a vehicle that could navigate the rugged Pacific Northwest terrain in low-light, and no-light conditions. The MAWLR is purpose-built to transport equipment to remote destinations for product demonstrations, testing, and photo shoots.

Weapon-Ready

The MAWLR is weapon ready, equipped with a TruckVault featuring designated space for rifle platforms, laser systems, and accessories. A large roof rack easily accommodates additional gear in travel cases.

Rugged and Dependable

Custom armor, all-terrain tires, and all-wheel-drive ensure the MAWLR can make it from point A to point B in the varying climates of the Pacific Northwest. The MAWLR can transition from Washington’s snowy mountain passes, to wet rainforests, and sandy deserts, all without breaking a sweat.

All the Photons

Whether demonstrating the latest laser technology, or shooting machine guns on a photo shoot, the B.E. Meyers & Co. team can often be found making magic happen during hours of complete darkness. Extensive aftermarket lighting on the front and rear of the MAWLR provide the lumens necessary to navigate to and from remote destinations at night.

B.E. Meyers & Co. and Defconbrix will be revealing the official build list once the project is officially completed.

The B.E. Meyers & Co. MAWLR build by Defconbrix can be followed on Instagram (@the.mawlr), and Facebook (@mawlr).

“Lionhearted”, National Collaboration Honoring Courage of Veterans, Debuts in Observance of Veterans Day

November 5th, 2018

Directed by Purple Heart Recipient, Lionhearted Project Includes Short Films, Art, and Website Sharing Reality of a Veteran’s Return
ONTARIO, California –The Safariland Group (“Safariland”), a leading global manufacturer of a broad range of safety and survivability products for the public safety, military, professional, and outdoor markets, announces the Lionhearted project, a national collaboration of film, art, and community empowering veterans to heal through sharing their personal stories. The Lionhearted initiative was influenced and directed by Purple Heart recipient and Safariland’s digital media director, Shane Ruiz.

Lionhearted started as a small project to chronicle veteran stories for Veterans Day and grew organically due to the strong veteran community. Twenty-two veterans’ stories are featured in video, art and on a website dedicated to this project, and captured in a 24-minute documentary film to be presented at the Smithsonian’s Veterans Day Film Festival on November 11.

“The Lionhearted project honors the courage of our veterans, and gives them a voice, so others will know it’s okay to talk about their experiences and get support,” said Shane Ruiz, digital media director at Safariland. “It is designed to help civilians understand what veterans go through, so they’ll be better able to support the unseen battles veterans face each day.”

Artist Shawn Ganther, an Air Force veteran, created one-of-a-kind artistic renditions of each of the veterans’ stories on Safariland hard armor plates. The individual plates were assembled as one piece into a red, white and blue mosaic American flag. The six-foot-long, 460-pound art piece called “The Lionhearted” will be unveiled on November 8 at the National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago and will be on display as part of its permanent collection.

Ruiz added, “The suicide rate among veterans is unacceptably high, averaging 22 veterans daily. This is a staggering and heartbreaking statistic. For this reason, we wanted to honor and help veterans by giving them the opportunity to share their stories. We expect their stories will help other veterans who can relate to them and provide valuable insights for civilians.”

Veterans and civilians are encouraged to visit The Safariland Group’s YouTube channel to see the veteran’s stories and documentary, as well as the website lionheartedfilm.com for a full overview of the Lionhearted project.
