Huron Hot Weather Short Brim Boonie

TYR Tactical dropped this surprise on me last night. I really like the narrower brim. The Huron™ Hot Weather Short Brim Boonie Hat is a new spin on a 40 year old design. They constructed the 2” brim and top of the hat with newly developed 3.6oz 100% ripstop nylon which gives it strength, comfort and reduces the overall weight. The circumference of the MultiCam® boonie is made with poly mesh which quickens dry time in both arid and humid climates. It also allows excess heat to vent, further decreasing dry time. They went with 1” elastic webbing around the outside of the Boonie instead of the tradition nylon webbing. This ensures a secure fit of any foliage which may be used in conjunction with the hat.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – Forager Cap

The FirstSpear Forager Cap remains one of my favorite hats. This week, we’ll focus on it and tell you about some upcoming color options.

Available in Standard and Low Profile variants, the Standard Forager Cap features a slightly longer brim than other caps that gives extra shade. Yet, both versions have a preformed, foldable bill that makes it a snap to store flat in your pocket.

You’ll also notice that there are slits, called eyeglass channels, for the temple pieces of your eyepro designed to make sure your glasses won’t go anywhere when stored above the brim.

The unique back hook strap combines stretch as well as a great deal of mechanical adjustment thanks to the buckle and loops. The Forager is also lined with an ultra light weight mesh for ventilation and wicking.

The front of the cap has a light weight breathable low nap pile from Velcro that will let you place a FS Cell Tag, PVC Patch or other ID marking. Additionally, the front breathable panel is embroidered with the FS logo if you don’t want to wear a patch.

WHAT: 1yr anniversary fund raising match.

WHEN: 30 -31 July 2016 (SAT/SUN)

WHERE: Parma, ID (Parma Rod & Gun Club) Home of the MGM Ironman

WHY: The Organization is about one thing and one thing only. Getting our lost veterans back, whether it be an emotional loss or a physical loss. Our goal is to help get combat veterans upright again by introducing them to a hobby they can not only relate too, but a group they can belong too. We take the weapons once used for destruction and help turn them into tools of healing. Our support structure is made up of like minded people that genuinely care for one another. Our sport offers not only the mental and physical challenges many of our vets are use too, but the camaraderie many have left behind or lost.

The 3G4V program is not designed to be a Band-Aid for veterans, but rather a life altering surgery. I know first hand the healing powers this sport has to offer because I too was once lost. Thinking I had no where to turn I let myself and my family suffer. This sport gave me back more then I ever could have asked for. This sport brought me back from a place I never wanted to be and a place I never thought I’d escape.

This isn’t a one time thing for us, we aren’t the organization that brings vets out for a weekend of fun just to check the block and say we did our part. This organization is about follow through. We are with our vets for the long run, they made a commitment to us, we owe them the same.

Arc’teryx LEAF – XFunctional Pant AR

Referred to as Cross Functional Pants, these are what range pants should be. They offer a roomy, ergonomic cut with plenty of room to move. I own a pair and I really like them.

Made from a 50/50 NYCO blend, these are not ripstop nor do they offer any mechanical strength. However, they do integrate a gussetted crotch and articulated knees with a casual look. This gives you loads of room to move. Additionally, the pockets are quite handy, but I haven’t yet had an occasion to use the pocket media ports. They would probably be good for low viz ops.

FEATURES:
-Reinforced belt loops accommodate heavy duty belt and carried loads
-Embedded sweat band at waist mitigates friction
-Internal hand pockets have folding knife/tool storage and media ports to allow internal routing of communications cables
-External hand pockets have secure small item compartmentalization
-Two external seat pockets; two external drop in pockets for smartphones
-Two retention loops integrated at waistline

Offered in Greenstone and Terra which are not traditional LEAF colors but fit in well with other Arc’teryx items, as well as those from other manufacturers, for those seeking a low viz look.

Sizes are even 30-38″ with 32″ and 35″ inseams but note, these pants are baggy and I suggest you go down a size, even if carrying IWB.
