IOTV Gen III Conversion Kit Combines New OCP Carrier With Existing Armor Inserts

April 28th, 2015

The US Army literally has hundreds of thousands of Gen I & II IOTVs. Over the course of the program, the Army has significantly upgraded the outer carrier but the soft armor remained virtually the same. PEO Soldier’s Gen III conversion kit takes servicable soft armor inserts and placed them in new, Gen III carriers in OCP.

In addition to the great savings afforded by this program ($413 for a conversion kit vice $791 for a complete vest), the Army is also taking a hard look at life cycles for soft armor, challenging the standard five year shelf life. Recent testing has already extended this shelf life to seven years and a new round or testing may extend it further; to 15 years. This is just as important for LE activities who rely on ballistic vests as critical, day-to-day PPE.

Quicksilver – True Wetsuits

April 28th, 2015

true wetsuits

The combined efforts of Quicksilver Japan and Japanese ad agency TBWA\HAKUHODO have led to the creation of the True Wetsuits. True Wetsuits feature a jacket and pants which made from 2mm jersey neoprene and a shirt made of the Quicksilver/3M-designed ‘Dry Flight’ fabric, and are intended to look like business suits, or in the case of a third variant a tuxedo, yet function more or less like a traditional wetsuit. And yes, we know what you’re thinking; you could totally reenact the pre-title sequence of Goldfinger while wearing one of these, but arguably this is even better because in this case the tux is the wetsuit.

Reportedly, the suits are made to order with a two month lead time, and we’ve yet to find any confirmation they’re available anywhere other than Japan.

Kate’s Real Food Bars

April 27th, 2015

Kate's Real Food

Kate’s Real Food Bars are a line of energy bars made from all-natural, organic ingredients. Having tried several sample bars, we can definitely attest to the quality. Their Tiki Bar, for example, tastes great, with a mellow coconut flavor accented with cashew, and a slight hint of mango. The bars are also guaranteed to remain completely edible even when cold, and after having stored one of the bars (Handle Bar – dark chocolate, cherry, almond) in the fridge for an extended period, we’ve found this is true. Although it did stiffen, unlike other food bars, it was still easy enough to break apart and chew.

You can either order Kate’s Real Food bars online or find them in many outdoor stores.
