June 21st, 2012

PEO Soldier has released instructional videos for the various models of Protective Overgarment Garment designed to protect the wearer’s pelvic region from blast and frag associated with IEDs. The videos do a good job of demonstrating how to don and doff the systems.

Forces Focus – 24 SOW Standup

June 21st, 2012

On June 1st, to little fanfare, the US Air Force activated it’s newest wing, the 24th SOW. It is comprised of the 720th Special Tactics Group and the Special Tactics Training Squadron based at Hurlburt Field, FL, the 724th Special Tactics Group, Pope Field, NC and 16 recruiting locations scattered around the country. It’s also the third wing under AFSOC alongside the 1st Special Operations Wing also located at Hurlburt Field and the 27 Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, NM.

Capabilities of the Wing include airfield reconnaissance, assessment and control. Special tactics Airmen also engage in joint terminal attack control, personnel recovery, weather and environmental reconnaissance.

“Establishment of the 24th Special Operations Wing allows a single commander to lead the recruiting, training and development of our special tactics warriors and ultimately provide combatant commanders with world-class Airmen to accomplish their mission,” said Lt Gen Eric Fiel, AFSOC Commander.

By creating the 24 SOW, not only is a single Special Tactics commander enabled to lead, but pressure is alleviated by removing the responsibility of logistical planning from the groups so they can concentrate on the operational mission. No word yet on what the additional Wing structure will consist of.

According to AFSOC, with Col Armfield’s assumption of command of the new 24th SOW, Col Kurt Buller assumed command of the 720 STG. I’m glad to see the ‘Bull’ get this command and I hope we see stars on Col Armfield and his Vice Wing commander, Col Eric Ray soon as well. I’ve worked for or with everyone of those men and they are an amazing bunch.

Having been assigned to the 720th STG and the 21st STS, I can tell you that the men and women assigned to Special Tactics are some of the finest Americans I have ever known and the most competent Special Operators I have served with throughout a variety of Army, Air Force and Joint SOF assignments.

‘Like’ 2CentTactical on Facebook and help them reach 200 and beyond. They’re going to be giving away a few cool items like patches, a ATS Multicam chest rig, stickers, key chains and a shirt or two.

Also, while you’re at it, check out 2CentTactical’s story on the latest updates to the BioSkin BackJack Tactical. They’ve apparently updated some of the materials since we covered it last year.

ICE Tactical to Assemble Deceptex Uniforms

June 21st, 2012

Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp informed us that ICE (Integrated Combat Equipment) Tactical will be assembling the Hyperstealth Deceptex uniforms. After reviewing the requirements and working with Hobey Walker of ICE Tactical on a current Hyperstealth project, Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth states: “this makes much more sense to provide a higher quality garment than we would be able to do ourselves. This is ICE Tactical’s area of expertise and ours is on the pattern and printing side. It was ADS Inc. that recommended that I contact Hobey Walker for this Deceptex program as his company is only an hour drive from Hyperstealth. Hobey has made 20 uniforms for Hyperstealth in the past month from our printed material and he is working on another 8 which will be ready on Monday. We can’t tell you who the user is for all these 28+ uniforms – due to an NDA, but we are using this to refine the Deceptex printing and assembly process so we have it all nailed down when we do open the site for orders (shortly).

Initially we will only be offering Deceptex for Jackets and Pants and Helmet covers but ICE Tactical has the ability to make Boonie Hats, Load Carrying Gear, Platforms, Pouches, Accessories and Shelters, these may come later for all Deceptex patterns once we source the heavier textiles that work best with our Hyperstealth Textile Printers and work within the ICE Tactical capabilities.”

We think it also kind of helps that they are both located in the Vancouver, BC of Canada.

DECEPTEX, is an innovative “Print on Order” camouflage system capitalizing on 21st century technology. Deceptex is not a camouflage pattern but a camouflage system; Hyperstealth will use their two large format digital inkjet textile printers to print any Deceptex pattern as customer will be able to order one or more uniforms based on a selection of hundreds of Hyperstealth Camouflage patterns (currently there are 259 Deceptex patterns).

‘Murph’ – The Movie

June 20th, 2012

I’ve been hearing for some time about efforts to make a movie about fallen US Navy SEAL, LT Michael Murphy, recipient of the Medal of Honor. Just yesterday, I found about a grass roots effort being staged on indigogo.com to raise $75,000 over the next two weeks in order to produce a documentary on this extraordinary man. Indiegogo.com works much like Kickstarter to crowd source funding and provides incentives to those who invest in projects.

They’ve already funded the early stages of the film internally but will soon move into the production and post-production phases and expenses will grow exponentially, including but not limited to administration, travel, location shoots, editing, music, titles, effects, etc. This is why they need your help making this film a reality.

Visit www.indiegogo.com/MURPH-TheMovie to see how you can help.
