BHI has announced that Tom Kivlehan is coming on board as their Master Gunsmith and Firearms Manufacturing Project Manage. I’ve known Tom since his H&K days. Congrats!

Blackheart International is pleased to announce that Thomas Kivlehan, Jr. (USMC retired) has joined the BHI team in the role of Master Gunsmith and Firearms Manufacturing Project Manager for the company’s firearms division. Kivlehan’s decades of experience in firearms manufacturing, research and development, machining skills, NATO and foreign weapons expertise, and his years working with some of the top firearms manufacturers in the industry will be called upon as BHI launches its expansion phase of light arms development and production.

In addition, Kivlehan has built numerous custom sniper rifles (bolt action and M1A/M14), 1911-style pistols, revolvers and shotguns.

“With Tom joining the BHI team,” says Blackheart International COO Travis Ernst, “we will be able to continue to provide expert level gunsmithing, as well as develop new and innovative enhancements to our current firearms lineup. Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will enable us to continue to provide the quality and expertise that our customers expect from BHI. Tom’s background will also be instrumental in Blackheart International Training’s upcoming military and law-enforcement armorer courses for foreign weapons, ARs and pistols, so our clients should stay tuned for upcoming course offerings.” In addition to heading up BHI’s manufacturing of premium AR-15 rifles, AR57 rifles and specialized AK rifles, Kivlehan will manage the company’s gunsmithing service operation, which includes rebarreling, pillar bedding, custom machining and action blueprinting for bolt-action rifles, and trigger work, sight installation, guide rod upgrades, custom modifications and general service for pistols and revolvers. Finally, Kivlehan will apply his precision long-range rifle manufacturing experience to providing BHI customers with the most accurate customized bolt-action rifles available anywhere.

BHI Introduces New Defensive Pistol Course for SOF

Thursday, September 13th, 2012

Blackheart International developed their Defensive Pistol Course specifically for special operations personnel who are deployed to high-risk areas (individually or in small teams) devoid of regular military presence or support, and who require a low profile as part of their Force Protection Plan. As such, their individual posture is not that of a standard kinetic deployment. This course is designed to train the student on tactics to be utilized by SOF operators in high-threat areas where full kit cannot be worn due to the high profile generated by the use of such operational gear as body armor, long guns and helmets.

This is a five-day course which covers the following:

• Proper wear and use of concealed carry equipment (e.g. holsters, mag pouches, low-profile body armor, etc.), discussion of the various types of equipment available, and the ability to train with multiple rigs.

• Basic concealed carry shooting skills, drawing from concealed carry, shooting, remedial and immediate action, and tactical and combat reloading.

• Threat response in a real-world environment; responding with a concealed weapon and fighting to a designated area (e.g. a vehicle or a long gun); Hard-pointing a structure with minimal personnel and equipment. Training includes scenario-based live-fire evolutions, with full debriefs of each scenario provided by the instructor staff.

• Scenarios also include responding to threats that arise in normal situations that a SOF operator may find himself in (e.g. engaged in a meeting with host nation personnel, contact while driving a non-tactical vehicle or responding to a flash mob or multiple assailants.

• Threat recognition and positive identification of potential threats prior to engaging.

• Medical briefing covering treatment of gunshot trauma.

The main emphasis of the training focuses on the operator’s ability to respond quickly and correctly to a scenario that rapidly escalates from a low-stress to a high-stress situation requiring the immediate and/or sustained use of force.

Course includes necessary holsters and equipment. BHI can modify this course to your specific unit needs.

Course length: 5 days Minimum students: 5 Maximum students: 8

BHI 2013 BHI Girls & Guns Calendar Supports Charities

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

The 2013 BHI Girls & Guns calendar is now available for pre-order through BHI’s online store. The 2013 calendar promises to be their best one yet, and this year all profits will be going to support Xtreme Couture GI Foundation and It Ain’t Chemo. That’s why it’s so important to pre-order your 2013 calendars. By extending the sales window BHI anticipates maximizing revenue for these two great charity organization. Let’s give them a hand.

Randy Couture very generously donated the use of his MMA gym – Extreme Couture for the photo shoot. I was on hand for a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into producing such a calendar. It takes a lot of work coordinating the various moving pieces. You have location, models, makeup, costumes, guns, props, cameras and photographer. Additionally, BHI sponsored a couple of range trips with the models at The Gun Store in Las Vegas. All of the models are shooters but weapon safety is important to BHI so they wanted to give the models some instruction before the photo shoot.

Note – The Xtreme Couture GI Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation, was founded by MMA legend Randy Couture to honor the veterans of America’s armed forces. The foundation was especially formed to raise money and awareness for those wounded in action and their families. It Ain’t Chemo is an organization that provides cancer patients with comfort and care supplies, advice, and emotional support.
