National Molding has introduced a simple alternative to the heavy metal buckles used on many Rigger’s belts. This buckle is molded in Acetyl and while it is not life support capable, it is both lightweight and relatively inexpensive. It can also be used as an adjustable attachment point for slings or other equipment. Currently available in Tan 499 but will be offered in all of the standard military colors.
National Molding has introduced a Hybrid Side Release Buckle that boasts a 300 lbs break strength by combining stainless steel and polymer. You might also notice that pronounced actuation making it great for gloved hands.
National Molding has released their 2013 catalog which includes the Quad Release system (used in IOTV Gen III) and its little brother the Evil Twin (a two point release system) designed for plate carriers.
National Molding has introduced a new addition to the Dura-flex family, the Elasto-Lok. It features quick attach split bars allowing it to be quickly mounted to PALs webbing. The adjustable shock cord secures or stabilizes the accessory onto the platform. To remove the item a quick flip of the locking tab and the item is free in seconds. National Molding suggests it for securing flashlights or other items and they claim multiple Elasto-Loks can be used for larger items like break in tools.
The Army has inserted a couple of improvements into the Improved Outer Tactical Vest version III. Overall, you won’t notice many cosmetic changes. A contract was recently awarded for production of 57,000 of the new carriers which incorporate the National Molding Molly Stix to secure the side plate carrier to the cummerbund but also their Quad Release Trigger Assembly. The Quad Release Trigger Assembly allows the wearer to rapidly don and doff the carrier. The most interesting aspect of the system is the simplicity of re-assembling the components. It’s a simple snap of four side-release buckles. This cutaway system is certainly going to be easier for Soldiers to put back together.
