SHOT Show – Point Blank Enterprises / Paraclete

Friday, January 23rd, 2015

DSC05334

The Trifecta is the latest shield from Point Blank Enterprises under the Paraclete line. It offers NIJ Level III protection, as well as protection against M855 green tip ammo. The Trifecta’s unique two layer ballistic system consists of a hybrid composite ballistic material with an air pocket in-between the two layers. This pocket allows projectiles to tumble and yaw before hitting the second layer of armor, reducing their penetrative capability. Either side of the shield features the three Weapon Mount System, which offers a platform to stabilize either a handgun or long gun. The rear features a stationary handle, foam pad, and Velcro forearm strap attachment system. The total weight with the optional viewport and 450 lumen LED light kit is only 35 lbs.

SHOT Show – GLOCK

Friday, January 23rd, 2015

DSC05476

Perhaps generating the biggest buzz at the Glock booth was the new MOS or Modular Optic System pistols. The fairly recent trend of mounting miniature reflex optics to pistols has prompted Glock to offer their own optic-ready slides for various Glock pistol models.

DSC05474

Seen above is the Glock 34 MOS. The 34 is a long slide 9x19mm Glock, which has seen use in many competitive shooting events, making it a perfect fit for the new MOS line. The slides come standard with a removable cover plate, for use without an optic, as well as the necessary Torx wrench and screws. The MOS also comes with four adapter plates to accommodate most popular optic models.

Currently, the G34 Gen4, G35 Gen4, G41 Gen4, and G40 Gen4 are the four models slated to come out in the MOS configuration, although if the MOS line turns out to be popular enough it’s likely Glock would expand the MOS slides to other models. We were also told that currently the MOS has to be purchased as a complete pistol and the slides will not be sold separately. They are set to ship shortly after the completion of SHOT Show.

SHOT Show – CRKT No Bother by Ryan Johnson

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

RMJ Tactical’s Ryan Johnson told us he has a little help in creating some of his designs. Take for instance the upcoming No Bother from CRKT.

20140310-153344.jpg

Like me, Ryan does a lot with his kids. He told me that one day he and his daughter were out and she sketched a neck knife design out and wrote “No Bother” under it. Ryan asked her what that was about and she said, dead pan, “no one is going to bother you when you have this.” The name stuck along with the overall design.

This full tang neck knife is made from 8Cr13MoV with a 2.1″ blade and overall length of 5.29″ with a non-reflective, black oxide stone wash finish and a reverse tanto tip. Thanks to the non-removable ABS scales it only weights 2.2 oz.

The sheath can be worn several ways including around the neck via Paracord with integrated release safety fob to avoid choking as well as attached to PALS webbing. The sheath retains the blade even when tip up.

SHOT Show – CRKT’s Woods Chogan & Kangee T-Hawk Designed by Ryan Johnson

Monday, March 10th, 2014

CRKT introduced two new Ryan Johnson Tomahawk designs at SHOT Show, the Woods Chogan and Kangee T-Hawks.

20140310-151939.jpg

You probably know Ryan Johnson from his own RMJ Tactical. He’s done a couple of designs for them in the past such as last year’s Chogan and Kangee T-Hawks that differ from these new models because of handle material. Weighing in at 2 lbs, 1.4 oz, these new Woods versions feature a 19.13″ long handle of Tennessee hickory, sealed with lacquer.

The heads of both models are made from 1055 steel and measure just over 4″. The Chogan offers a Hammer, while the Kangee incorporates a Spike on the head.

SHOT Show – Blue Force Gear Introduces New Point of Purchase Displays

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

For manufacturers and retailers alike, Point of Sale Displays are extremely important. For the manufacturer it is the best way to represents themselves on a retail sales floor. For the retailer, the display should help showcase the product. I think Blue Force Gear has done a great job with this new launch, unveiled at SHOT Show.

20140217-114907.jpg

The displays at the top can be changed and according to BFG they plan to support this capability with regular updates that will catch the customer’s eye as well as inform.

20140217-115608.jpg

In addition to a very neat layout, there’s something else special about this display that won’t dawn on many right off the bat.

20140217-115840.jpg

These blue guns are the best part of this new display. It can be difficult to visualize how many slings work. Generally, the customer will wonder if it’s long enough, how it will connect to the rifle, etc. With embedded QD points and Picatinny rail sections, these blue guns are an inexpensive way to provide some hands on time and show a customer how to configure the sling on the rifle.

Each display comes with one blue gun. Contact www.BlueForceGear.com for details about this new program.
