New Eyepro from Smith Optics

Friday, January 6th, 2012

At SHOT Show 2012 Smith Optics Elite Division is officially unveiling a couple of new eyeshields in a line called Aegis which denotes the lens type. The Aegis Arc and Aegis Arc Compact share similar geometries but the Compact model is naturally a little smaller to accommodate smaller faces. One of the most exciting things about the Aegis line is the innovative PivLock Lens Interchange Technology that allows for fast lens exchange.

Additionally, the Aegis Echo is designed specifically for those wearing helmet and headset combinations. It features ultrathin moldable temples that hug close to the head but don’t make it feel like you’re being squeezed in a vice.

One major announcement is the frames are MultiCam. It seems odd, but Smith is the first company to offer production eyepro with MutliCam frames. This isn’t just about looks. While they’re going to do a better job of blending in to the wearer’s overall ensemble, Smith Optics delivers performance as well. They combine Tapered Lens Technology to make sure what you see is optically correct with full UV protection in addition to meeting US Standard MIL-PRF-31013, ANSI Z87.1-2003 and EN 166 standards.

Additionally, the Aegis Eyeshield is exclusive to Tactical Assault Gear at SHOT Show.

Smith Optics Elite Division will be in booth #7310 at SHOT Show.

Smith Optics Elite Division Veterans Day Regards

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Every Veteran’s Day I have the opportunity to see the faces of those fallen. They are sent from friends and colleagues so that their memory may be appreciated. I always sit and wonder who that person was and what they might have become had they not been taken so soon. The foremost question is why did they choose to fight. It has been my meager experience that this reason is rarely for freedom. Rather, freedom is the by-product of their action. The reasons vary as dramatically as the men and women who have served. The lined faces of our aging veterans stand in stark contrast to the fresh faces of those participating in our current conflicts. The common denominator for all of our generations is that they had a reason to pick up arms and fight. Today, I will give my appreciation to those reasons, whatever they may be, and cherish their by-product.

“I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the alter of Freedom. Yours, very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln”

My personal thanks to those veterans on this day, those men and women of action,

Rick Elder

Smith Ignitor Lens

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Smith Optics’ set out to develop a lens for use in all light conditions, all year round. The result was the Ignitor, Smith’s number one selling lens. It excels in flat light conditions by increasing contrast but it turns out you can use the lens during both light and dark conditions. Since Smith Optics meet ANSI Z87.1 standards for impact and the Ignitor lens is suitable in bright as well as low light environments, it can be worn constantly without having to change glasses, goggles, or lenses making it an excellent lens for tactical applications. It’s great not having to take your glasses off when you go inside, not to mention being able to see clearly in conditions like this.
