S.O.Tech Original V.I.P.E.R. Flat IFAK (back) in Multicam Black!

Monday, July 19th, 2021

S.O. Tech is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the V.I.P.E.R. Flat IFAK with a limited edition run of the SO Tech IFAK kits in MultiCam Black.

The S.O. TECH flat IFAK [NSN 8465-01-685-1142 and 6545-01-644-4988} has an interesting background. This, given the overall history of Jim Cragg and S.O. Tech  (which is fast coming up on 25 years of service) is not much of a surprise.

S.O. Tech will be 25 years old soon itself (you may remember their 20th anniversary video series).

They explain the V.I.P.E.R. IFAK below.

Tasked by USASOC to go outside of the box and design a next generation load carriage plate carrier, we innovated moving the first aid kit to the lower back but keeping it rapid access. In 2011 the Science and Technology of Army Special Operations Command brought us in to incorporate solar panels in the rear plate carrier for Special Forces soldiers. The top half carried the panels opening up the bottom half for the elements of a SOF IFAK. At first it was a sleeve built into the shell of the rear plate carrier, but soon we moved it as a module down onto the belt realizing that it forms a great lower back pad. From there, we watched SOF operators across the spectrum have the “ah-ha” moments when they realized there was a great place for the IFAK that was out of the way, but not out of reach. Obviously, the conventional Army realized the same thing as they incorporated our design in the IFAK-2 project making 900,000 IFAKs.

The strategy we approached this design with looked deep into mindset of America’s most elite warriors. Weapons and reloads dominate the training day, and traumatic wounds signal defeat to a warrior. Pushing the med kit out of the tactical triangle satisfied the Alpha warrior, but any soldier who has seen a comrade’s blood knows down deep the need for quick pull IFAK access. Reaching with either hand and pulling the tools that will stop the bleeding elevates the confidence, and the feeling of that pack in your lower back offers a similar sense of support as the team member’s squeeze coming up the stack.

The S.O.Tech V.I.P.E.R. IFAK is the choice IFAK for the U.S. Special Forces, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Secret Service SOD, ATF, New Zealand Special Operations, Estonia Special Operations and many other elite units in the USA and around the world.

SOTech Gives Us A Blast From The Past

Friday, February 5th, 2016

The Assault Vest was a symbol for SOTech. It was one of the first projects Founder Jim Cragg made for each of the members of his Army Special Operations team. It also symbolized the “overbuilt” ethos of the company – it was made of double layers of 1000 Denier Cordura, heavy webbing and 138 wt. thread. It even included an extraction harness built in. One of the first uses of AustriAlpin’s metal “click buckle” (their predecessor to the Cobra buckle) was on this vest in 1999.

S.O.TECH Supplies LAPD With Speed Clip IFAKs Assembled By Homeless Veterans

LOCAL HOMELESS VETERANS WORK TO SAVE POLICE LIVES

LAPD purchases 2,700 first aid pouch kits from S.O.TECH and Green Vets LA

Speed-Clip-Veterans-7th

The goal is to help at-risk veterans to rejoin the society they once served, and they are doing it by bonding with those who wear the uniform to protect our streets. Veteran members of Vets Corps / Green Vets LA were subcontracted by S.O.Tech to assemble 2,700 individual first aid kits (IFAKs) that were delivered to the Los Angeles Police Department. These kits include tourniquets, pressure dressings and clotting agents that have been proven to save lives after gunshot and knife wounds.

Vets Corps searches for projects that provide work therapy that will inspire its Veterans to rejoin society. The knowledge that this product may save the life of a law enforcement officer builds a mental bond between this marginalized population of the street and the uniform wearing symbols of authority in our society. Their product will be supplied to both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, two of the world’s premier law enforcement agencies. And while this population of formerly homeless and at-risk Veterans have lived a hard life on the streets, their therapy draws from their experiences of service while in uniform, a common point they share with these law enforcement officers. As an additional benefit to the community, providing a job for this population not only reduces homelessness, but it can also reduce the resultant crime.

S.O.TECH Special Operations Technologies Inc. located in Carson, California manufactures in house and has established a small sewing, assembly and printing shop located inside the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital. S.O.TECH has sponsored Vets Corps since 2010, providing projects such as sewn reusable cloth shopping bags and Challenge Bear stuffed animals. The Veterans earn a paycheck from the program as well as receiving job training.

S.O.TECH’s Speed Clip System was chosen by LAPD and LASD for its revolutionary quick attachment capability for officers to grab and mount a rig to their thigh, belt or vest during rapidly developing scenarios rather than permanently carrying items on cluttered belts. S.O.TECH’s Speed Clip mounts medical pouches, Taser holsters, police rifle magazine pouches, radio pouches and riot control pepper dispenser carriers. The Speed Clip system is protected by multiple U.S. patents.

S.O.TECH is also supplying an equally large number of Taser Holsters to both LAPD and LASD from the Speed Clip line. The members of Vets Corps also worked on this production effort, taking pride in being part of an effort to provide less lethal options to officers confronting dangerous situations. Vets Corps is a 501c3 non-profit.
